While We Wait: Boredom Strikes Back

Anyhow, before we jump on him, I think what kkmo was trying to say was that poorly done history-lite NESes masquerading as alternate histories aren't a good thing. I don't think he was intending to level that criticism at well-conceived, well thought out alternate histories like PerfNES or Dachs' project.

Yeah, this is exactly what I was saying. I don't know where the confusion came from. There is a clear difference between ill-conceived and well-conceived. If I had time, I would join PerfNES. If I have time when Dachs' project rolls around, I will join it, and have expressed my interest many times thus far. Similarly, I have read much of North King's NES and greatly appreciate it.

yeah, I totally agree, we don't want another prolonged miscarriage like that NES set in feudal Japan, which would only result in bitterness and heartbreak

LotRS is not dead. I never said it was dead, and I don't know where you got the idea from. I have been working on the update for some time now, in between writing stories for Sekai, writing my own stuff, and schoolwork. If you want to push it along, actually show some concrete interest in the NES by writing stories and giving narrative to your clan. Additionally, I became tired of pestering a good 50% of the players for orders every turn (I still don't have a few sets, most notably from Espoir who I have seen active elsewhere). I know I can "NPC" clans, but I don't like NPCing half. However, I did eventually get most orders, and have been updating ever since. Not everyone is so quick to the draw to send orders as you are, flyingchicken. Updates for that NES take a lot of time for me. I'm sorry my completely free-of-charge service (in which I take time out of my studies and my day to pursue) has somehow resulted in bitterness and heartbreak for you.

In a strange way, I consider N3S to be an alternate history NES. Since it's the first NES of its kind to attempt a hard, full-scale historical simulation on a non-Earth map with a very high degree of true realism.

To be honest LINESII was also this, but I started it when I was 15 years old and not particularly knowledgeable about history. At any rate, I consider NK to be a better quality moderator than myself.

I tried to get into NK's, but it was intimidating to simply join in after having been so long. I cannot wait to start in a new one of his if he does start one.

Yeah, though that's a downside to a lot of established, intense NES'. Daft's one fresh-start NES (CivNES? I cannot recall) was another one like that. Terribly interesting worlds present in both, though.

Really, I have gotten over my weird aversion to real-world NES'. They are just as strange, new, and basically as fanciful as any fantasy NES minus the elves and magic.

As Tolkien, Jordan, and Martin have all said: the best fantasy is rooted in reality.

I joined it. There are plenty of nations and small nations have almost no history. You only need to learn about their culture, that's usually described in wiki or can be asked from culture creator player, who, in my case, is Iggy. Worth every penny! Just ask NK, his kind mod and may give you a chance to create completely new culture or take over old.

especially if he mercilessly destroys you before you can even get off the ground

not that I am bitter

@ NW - I never said it was anyone's fault but my own. I simply feel intimidated by all that built up background and also the two nations I was really interested in were taken before I could decide.

@ Dachs - Ouch.

That was a sad story... but a damn good read.
I'm reasonably certain that my involvement in the NES was not publicized. At all. You're probably thinking about something else entirely.

I've updated my NES 3 (4) times, and there is a bit of a breather period for my out-of-breath NESers. I am announcing this because it is my first Multi-post Update. :D, and I want to see what you guys think.

Your style of updates is great, it's a fresh new experience reading every one ;)

somebody should shoot an asteroid into this thread now

With Beej's permission i'll happily start a new one.

Really? I must have been misinformed.. :p

Entirely on purpose.
