I used to be a regular over at the TrekBBS OT forums, or something similar to OT anyway. I was there for a couple years before I left.

I ended up leaving because I got fed up with:

1. All the talk about canon
2. That every second thread always degenerated to ******** left vs right screaming matches. Always the same talking points from both sides.. always the same dynamics.. Way too predictable and it made me want to punch everyone involved in the face.

I had an account here before I left TrekBBS because I had a long civ4:bts stint - it's the only PC game I played for 5-8 years. So I would check the BTS forums, check out screenshots, etc..

Then somehow I wandered into Offtopic and... I think what appealed to me initially was the different types of people who post here.. I mean, yeah, most of us might be white men 16-45, but we have representatives from various religions, continents, genders, political ideologies, sexual orientations, and so on.. This leads to a whole plethora of weird viewpoints being presented on any topic being discussed.. at least in theory. It made things more interesting than TrekBBS, and nobody was obsessed with canon, which is super annoying and might not warrant a punch to the face but at least a slap.

Either way, I haven't looked back. That place was not for me. This forum has some problems, and I have stopped posting as regularly since I made reddit my "go-to" place to discuss things, but I don't know, this place has a charm that has me coming back. It's like an old ex-girlfriend who is so-so but has 3 breasts. You come back every once in a while for a fix you can't get anywhere else.

I'm playing still, but a lot less than before. I check out this forum for news and funny stuff, not so much into political debates.

I think this place is a free-haven, where you can learn a lot and discuss if you want to. But after all, this is still a CIV-forum.
