Gold in WoW is higly valued on a real "black market". People sell their in-game gold for a real money.

Yes, you might find it absurd, but it's true. I guesstimate 5000 gold is about $100-200.

In fact, you could probably tell this also about the "money" you have in bank on a virtual account.
