If it was the ideal communist society and it actually worked then yes. Of course that would be better. Psycologists have shown that once you have enough money to meet your needs, extra money has a negligible influence of happiness. Therefore, the best way to allocate resources, if you can figure out a way to do it, is meet everyone's needs.

Capitalism doesn't exist. Even in theory, the theory is full of false assumptions and fallacies.

A society free of poverty, hunger, inequality? Seems rather nice on the surface. A definite plus.

Cons - it also assumes people will all be rational actors and make the best choices. Hint: they won't. Communism has the same weakness that laissez-faire capitalism does; most individuals simply do not make the best long-term choices.

Capitalism has a con of creating massive inequalities and, as communists would allege, creating conflicts for the pursuit of profit and resources.

On the other hand, capitalism's wealth concentration rewards those with good management skills and innovation. Though to be fair, capitalism also eats away at itself - the wealthy become entrenched and then start tearing down the good parts of the system, such as the idea that the successful will get rich while failures will stay at the bottom. The wealthy pursue their interests at the expense of society, which would be the biggest fault.

I'm a capitalist of the present and a communist of the future.

What theory do you mean?

I would say that we prioritise allowing people to make these choices above whether or not they make them correctly. "Libertarianism", I believe it's called? :mischief:

I'd prefer something in the middle. Take the best part of both and try and make them work together.

Oh, so the goalposts have moved. Now it's about whose illusions are better. Give me a sec and I'll think up an even better illusion for you... Oh wait, this is a family-friendly forum.

Is it possible to synthesise a commodity-based economy with a non-commodity based economy? That seems a contradiction in terms.

In my opinion it is possible (besides anything is possible when you write an utopia). It is a matter of changing perspectives. For example don't think of it in general but with more focus. Some issues can be faced with a more communist approach and some others with a more capitalist approach, without having to make the whole thing a mix, but a mix de facto.
