And we'll be at war with Iran soon if past is prologue...

Sen. Rand Paul went as far as to say he would block any Bolton nomination.

“John Bolton doesn’t get it. He still believes in regime change. He’s still a big cheerleader for the Iraq War,” he said on ABC’s This Week in December 2016. “John Bolton is so far out of it and has such a naive understanding of the world.”

Bolton has been a controversial national security figure for decades. He is blunt (North Korea’s Kim Jong-Il was a “tyrannical dictator,” the idea that China would respond with force if the US recognized Taiwan — as he suggested doing — “ is a fantasy") and has held hawkish views. Bolton advocated for the Iraq war as undersecretary of state for arms control and international security in 2002, saying the Bush administration was “confident” that Iraq’s Saddam Hussein had “hidden weapons of mass destruction.” More recently, in 2015, Bolton wrote a New York Times op-ed headlined, “To Stop Iran’s Bomb, Bomb Iran.” In February, he wrote an op-ed for The Wall Street Journal laying out the legal case for a pre-emptive strike on North Korea. “It is perfectly legitimate for the United States to respond to the current ‘necessity’ posed by North Korea’s nuclear weapons by striking first,” he wrote.

Does Bolton require senate confirmation? That might be a bit difficult...

edit: just heard his position doesn't require senate confirmation

I welcome Bolton, moar neo-cons please

The National Security Adviser does not require Senate confirmation, but nothing they would recommend could be implemented without the consent of various other players within the administration.

Which, given the rest of the defense/security positions are being filled up with Iran hawks and people who get mildly aroused by the thought of bombing civilians, is not much of a comfort.

on the other hand, maybe Trump wants the guy to scare other countries, like NK and Iran... I've noticed Trump's a fan of good cop, bad cop. He talks trash while his underling smooths out the edges, Bolton creates more edge.

So whose gonna smooth them out?

More worried with the removal of MacMasters, Mattis and soon Kelly that people like Bolton will get to influence Trump
Trump publicly announcing air strikes on Iran for example would be hilarious

So far it looks as if it were more of an accidental thing, really, rather than a consciously planned strategy.

Demonstrating that a US Senator is completely unaware of the basics of his job. Someone should ask Ron's idiot child how he voted on confirming confessed felon Michael Flynn as NSA and watch him squirm until he realizes that he didn't vote on that because the senate doesn't have confirmation power over the National Security Adviser and he is just blowing smoke up his own butt with this "block Bolton" claim.

Rand said he wouldn't confirm Bolton when his name was being floated for Sec. of State.

I should have posted pics of Yosemite and Bolton, but I dont know how.

I got you

The only time Bolton should be confirmed is if his name is being floated in a toilet bowl. Confirm and flush. The man has never met a war he didn't like, as long as he didn't have to fight it.
So a speaks-loud-and-carries-a-bigger-stick kinda guy?

Hm, i recalled that Bolton was the clown who did an infamously cringe-worthy interview at (iirc) the bbc, 15 years ago, discussing with the great Tony Benn (not to be confused with Tony Blair, who was prime minister at the time).

Here it is:

He wouldn't know a stick if it was handed to him. He is the ultimate REMF. Put this warmonger in series with draft dodger Don and it would be perfectly reasonable for the military to desert en masse rather than fight whatever war these clowns deem "necessary."

Aw. I can't brag about knowing the National Security Advisor anymore.
