YOU'RE FIRED!

Yes. He was hoping if he made a racist statement then no one would dare touch him. He was wrong.

He is still just a washed up loser despite hos obvious racism. He hoped that racism/black nationalism would protect him. It didn't. He is still jusr racist garbage.

Can someone explain kneeling? Like, what's the significance of that as opposed to sitting or lying down? I don't quite understand the choice of symbolism.

I saw an interview with a green beret, he was the reason Kaepernick was kneeling... Kaep was protesting the anthem back when Obama was Prez, but he did it by sitting on the bench. A team mate (Nate Boyer?) talked with him about it and suggested he kneel, thats what soldiers do at the graves of comrades. I guess its a symbolic gesture lamenting the fallen, but could include the flag/anthem (the ideals they embody).

Taking a knee during the anthem is against NFL rules though. In the NFL rulebook it says all teams must play the anthem before each game and all players and coaches must be on the field and standing at attention silently facing the flag until the anthem is completed. Penalties for failing to comply with this rule include suspensions, fines, and loss of draft picks for teams.

Help me out. Here's a link to the rules. http://operations.nfl.com/the-rules/2017-nfl-rulebook/#pdf-download
Exactly which rule are you referring to? I can't find it.

It's a peaceful protest isn't it?

edit: I'll also tell you 3 reasons Trump is happy with this diversion and will feed it.

1. Special counsel Robert Mueller has requested documents and information covering a range of events from President Donald Trump's White House, including two firings and an Oval Office meeting, sources familiar with the matter tell CNN.

Mueller's investigators are looking for documents and emails relating to the dismissals of national security adviser Michael Flynn and FBI director James Comey, according to the sources. In addition, one source confirms that Mueller's team wants information connected to the Oval Office meeting Trump had with Russian officials in which he bragged about firing Comey, saying it eased pressure on his White House.
The requests show that parts of Mueller's investigation are focusing on the President's own actions.

2. Sen. Susan Collins announced Monday afternoon that she will oppose the GOP's latest plan to overhaul the Affordable Care Act, bringing the total number of public "no" votes to three and likely killing the last-ditch effort to repeal Obamacare this week.

In a statement, the Maine Republican said the bill does not go far enough to protect people with pre-existing conditions and that the proposal's cuts to Medicaid are too steep.

3. Politico first reported Kushner's use of a private account and said it was set up in December and was used to sometimes trade emails with senior White House officials, outside advisers, and some others about media coverage.
During his campaign, Trump repeatedly criticized Democratic opponent Hillary Clinton for her use of a private email server to send and receive email during her time as secretary of state.

So what better way to divert attention from these nasty developments than this where he can act as if he's a patriot?

So it seems to me that if Goodell were actually interested in doing his job instead of playing politics, the Steelers (since they were obviously the worst offenders) should be losing their draft picks and their entire team except Villanueva should be suspended and fined.

So stand for the National Anthem, then take a knee and give a fist ?
That would technically allow them to fullfill the contract and protest at the same time

Beside Republicans are against PC behaviour.

Maybe not Chuck Schumer, but plenty of people with influence on the left did, and many rally-goers ended up losing their jobs.
What left wing government official specifically called for their firing?

They lost their jobs because their employers independently decided the rally-goers' views did not represent their companies. That's free market capitalism doing what it does. Its very different from an elected official telling a private organization to fire people because he does not agree with them. That's why I pointed it out from a libertarian perspective.

Not as weird as one might think : http://www.pbs.org/newshour/rundown/defense-department-paid-5-4-million-nfl-honor-troops/

People act like teams standing for the anthem is some sort of time honored tradition but before 2009 teams weren't even on the field until "...and the home of the brave!" That's when they used to run onto the field.

The military needs to keep its service members strictly voluntary because if they had to institute the draft there would be more outcry against our foreign interventions. Paying for this type of advertisement is necessary to keep the war machine rolling in a "democracy".

Funny thing is, its GoP reps that were most against this spending and "propaganda." Senators McCaine and Flake called it a waste of taxpayer dollars.

It'd be pretty amazing what our country could do for taxpayers without wasteful spending.

He makes some good points and gives perspective which wasnt mentioned in this thread so far. Plus he speaks about the problems of the black community his solution and finaly points out where the majority of reg. people who support the NFL stands. Pretty comprehensive and powerful message imo.

You realize it's gross racism to hide behind someone's words based purely on the color of that person's skin, right?

The funny thing is that since then his jersey has been the number 1 seller in the league. Yet when he talked to the reporters he said he wanted no part of the protest and just wanted to see the flag.
"It's a very embarrassing part of my end, When everyone see images of me standing by myself, everybody thinks the team and the steelers are not behind me and that is absolutely wrong. It's quite the opposite."

But how is it selling against the jersies of the 250 players who knelt? That's the stat I want someone to give.

I note that Alejandro Villanueva (the US Army vet who stood for the National Anthem when all of his teammates stayed in the locker room) has publicly apologized to his coach and teammates for "throwing them under the bus, unintentionally." Apparently he was out on the field by coincidence, and when the anthem began playing he didn't want to turn and duck back into the tunnel. fwiw, Villanueva is a former US Army Ranger with 3 tours of service in Afghanistan, and he has no issue with his teammates or others who take a knee. Pittsburgh coach Mike Tomlin, who stayed inside with his players during the anthem, let Villanueva off the hook, saying he had nothing to apologize for.

I predict this will be the beginning of the end of the NFL. This is turning out to be the sports version of GamerGate.

I predict the NFL will outlast Trump.

I, for one, am looking forward to the postseason.

Remind me again what Gamergate was?
I can't remember if it was some people getting butthurt because some weird internal drama at a website spilled over into their articles, or if it was the rape threats when someone had the audacity to mention video games are a bit of a sausage fest.

Either way, if this is anything like the "Gamergate" kerfuffle, the NFL has nothing to fear. (I mean, some of the best games in recent memory came out after the video game industry was allegedly taken over by women/the gays/beta males/the four letter word that CFC has decided to censor beginning with c.)
