2020 US Election (Part One)

Biden shouldn’t even be considered a serious candidate. Virtually no youth appeal whatsoever. Extremely generic boring old white gut who is not progressive and very center. The Democrats can’t win with a candidate like that... at least not as of right now. To the best of my knowledge, the last time we had a democratic candidate to win that met that description was Bill Clinton.

Bill Clinton’s initial victory can mostly be attributed to Ross Perot screwing it up for Bush Sr. His re-election can mostly be attributed to incumbents winning the vast majority of the time.

In other words, “Boring old generic non progressive white guy” is no longer a viable candidate for the democrats to run. Even Hillary made the mistake of a running mate who met that very description instead of picking someone who would have made younger people and/or progressives happy.

Beto gives off Obama vibes which is something that obviously has the potential to work in his favor. It’s just a shame he has to be from Texas though. That will probably be a useless home field advantage in the general election.

Beto gives me vibes of "empty can".

I like the "no more middle ground" stance on medicare for all, climate and abortion I hear from Bernie. It's high time someone progressive actualy took a firm clear stand on important and hot issues.

Because Elizabeth Warren has a plan for that.

I'm honestly surprised that we have a major US presidential candidate talking about creating a national industrial and economic policy to support the domestic economy. It is almost like she read my mind regarding the US economy. Doubt this will get much sustained media attention - because the press has to do another puff piece on Pete "I can be evasive in eight languages" Buttiegieg.

If she thinks Germany is an example to emulate then she is sadly misguided. Germany is pursuing a strategy that favors capital over workers every bit as much as the US does...

That is a very good way of putting it.

I love Bernie because he never takes a position he doesn't believe or pull any of his punches. If only his ideas made more sense. For example, Medicare for all is really Medicare for no one and seniors lose whatever value the money they paid had bought. That's before you get to the money part.

I'd rather give people what they need than what they deserve.
LOLs...you mean like Batman?:

ouch, she's the breaker of balls

Biden might be in trouble for more plagiarism, part of his climate plan may have been lifted from someone else

As long as he's not claiming that he created it, I don't see the problem. (and of course the plan doesn't suck)

I've already donated to her as she is my choice thus far, but I don't think the USA is worthy of her. We've degenerated in the middle and lower classes so badly that we'd rather sit on our butts and complain than actually fix anything. Trump is the quintessential essence of whining and doing nothing.
So, I had a conversation Sunday with my neighbor and my wife about politics. Hes a right leaning Trump guy, my wife's a centrist independent and I'm Bernie type left. They were ******* about the ACA and I pointed out how scrapping the system and moving to single payer would ultimately be cheaper for the middle and lower class. They didn't have arguments to counter my reasoning but still opposed it because it's a "handout." I got the impression that they'd rather complain about prices than embrace a provably better system. So many people here have full on bought into the negative propaganda that they wont even try to think about other options.

Biden had nothing to do with it; it was his staff. They lifted things word for word, which shows that they aren't even smart about it. Same song, twenty-third verse.

The bottom line is that Biden makes Beto seem competent. The staff does these things because the candidate cannot or will not and it isn't a very good staff.

You trust the "corporatocrats" with distributing all that money?

What does this even mean? That's exactly current policy. This would look to change that.

It seems to me the fundamental advantage Republicans have here is that it is always easier to destroy than to build and on a fundamental and philosophical level they are the party of destruction.

The Republicans aren't the party of destruction, that's just silly. They're the party of the rich. They want a government of the rich, for the rich, and by the rich, disguised as a government of the whites, for the whites, and by the whites.
And @Socrates your wife and neighbor don't want the "provably better system" because to them giving "handouts" to the undeserving destroys the moral fabric of the universe.

Idk. . . constitution? ignore at their convenience. Regulations? Get rid of at earliest convenience. Education? destroy at every level. Foreign policy? bomb first just never talk bomb again. Looks like a pretty clean platform of destroy to me.

I guess you're just not rich enough to understand it

[next excerpt from pocahontas' plan]
  • There are 58 programs in 11 federal agencies that provide support to American manufacturing — all of them tacked on to the primary missions at those agencies.
  • There are at least nine offices in five different agencies primarily responsible for trade policy and export promotion.
  • And there are 47 different employment and training programs spread across nine different federal agencies.
So the fatcats captured the first 114 attempts, but attempt #115 will elude them?

We should probably sit on our thumbs and spin because it's useless to act anyways. . .

They're the party of the rich.
This has gotten so stale. We're here discussing Warren's plan to put Goldman and JPMorgan's board members in charge of "hundreds of billions" in targeted subsidies. Or, uhhh, where did you think they hire people qualified to execute these kinds of economic policy initiatives?

Whoa, damn. You just swerved into the correct decision. Nice job Adam Smith. I wish you'd arrived there on purpose.

Yea I actually crawled out of that cave about 10 years ago, but you go ahead and enjoy it in there with you and your thumb.
