2020 US Election (Part One)

Warren's biggest problem is that she is a college professor and talks like one. Zero pizzazz factor.
She had plenty of pizzazz. Her problem is that she didn't use it in 2016. Pizzazz only works when you're a new face. Once people get used to you the effect wears off. Now she's just a very smart, very tough lady in a pantsuit, which is vaguely reminiscent enough of Hillary to be a subconscious turnoff. Plus she's a woman, which is a conscious turnoff to plenty of folks. I try remain optimistic about Warren, but I think her ship sailed last cycle.
This one has to sting. Biden is being compared to Walter Mondale.
Mondale, no, but I've said it before and I'll say it again, with Biden we are headed for another 2004-ish result.
Biden shouldn’t even be considered a serious candidate. Virtually no youth appeal whatsoever. Extremely generic boring old white gut who is not progressive and very center. The Democrats can’t win with a candidate like that
...
Even Hillary made the mistake of a running mate who met that very description instead of picking someone who would have made younger people and/or progressives happy.
I remember feeling pretty disappointed with the VP pick... it was a symptom of their whole approach to the election... boring, safe, cautious... nothing to be excited about. I'm not optimistic about Biden's chances. He's just too boring. He's very easy for Democrats to vote for, but he's not very easy to turn out for. He will win the reliable blue states easily, but not much else, kind of like John Kerry did.

You and me both buddy. I just saw a post on FB today, apparently Biden's campaign has announced that he still supports the Hyde Amendment. It almost seems like the Democrats don't care if they lose because the class interests that control the party do just as well under Republi...uh oh

*sigh* Why would he even take a position on that? It's a completely unforced error. Its like something Trump would do... just randomly tweet something like that he supports the banning of bump stocks or banning putting the ten commandments outside Courthouses, or whatever, because he was bored and wanted to be on the news... then have to walk it back or claim that he was being misconstrued three hours later. Just dumb.:shake:

EDIT: You know what?... Good. I'm glad he's shooting himself in the foot and I hope he continues to do/say stuff like this so maybe he can get overtaken by a candidate that can energize turnout and actually win the election.

Same yo but I really don't think it will happen unless we disallow people ages 55 and up from voting in this primary.

Bernie Sanders is too old so he shouldn’t be considered anymore.

The Republicans aren't the party of destruction, that's just silly. They're the party of the rich. They want a government of the rich, for the rich, and by the rich, disguised as a government of the whites, for the whites, and by the whites.
And @Socrates your wife and neighbor don't want the "provably better system" because to them giving "handouts" to the undeserving destroys the moral fabric of the universe.
Democrats have as much claim to being the party of the rich as Republicans--Hollywood, Silicon Valley and other tech, trial lawyers, an equal share in Wall Street and finance. Add media and academia and the Democrats have the better claim to being the party of elitists.

Giant Meteor 2020 it is then
That appears to be the Democrats only chance. It's going to be ugly.

No one really argues about the establishment democrat party being capture by Wall Street. The difference is they are captured and Republicans just are Wall Street.

Politics is all about money regardless of the party. Most racists I know aren't exactly wealthy.

There’s a good chance you’ll disagree with some or all of these ideas. Three months ago, when Warren outlined her plan for cleaving the economic dominance of large technology companies, I spent a few days quizzing her staff on what I considered to be flaws in her approach. I planned to write about them, but I was beaten by a wave of other tech pundits with similar reservations.
But then, in the discussion that followed, I realized what a service Warren had done, even if I disagreed with her precise approach. For months, commentators had been debating the generalities of policing tech. Now a politician had put forward a detailed plan for how to do so, sparking an intense policy discussion that was breaking new analytical ground. For a moment, it almost felt like I was living in a country where adults discuss important issues seriously. Wouldn’t that be a nice country to live in?

If nothing else that bolded part would really help my find faith in humanity again.

If she thinks Germany is an example to emulate then she is sadly misguided. Germany is pursuing a strategy that favors capital over workers every bit as much as the US does...
Germany still did a better job than America at maintaining a strong domestic economy. Plus, if you are trying to sell what is by American standards a fairly radical economic policy, it makes sense to borrow imagery from a country people generally think is doing well. Anything to avoid the phrase "national industrial policy" calling up images of Five Year Plans, bread lines, and crappy Soviet apartment blocks.

Beto energies young people.
Does he? He seems pretty boring to me. I don't think anyone would've heard of him if he wasn't running against Cruz (and if he couldn't beat Cruz there's no way he'll beat Trump).

Biden shouldn’t even be considered a serious candidate. Virtually no youth appeal whatsoever. Extremely generic boring old white gut who is not progressive and very center. The Democrats can’t win with a candidate like that... at least not as of right now. To the best of my knowledge, the last time we had a democratic candidate to win that met that description was Bill Clinton.
Nah Bill was cool/fun and likable. Biden just isn't. If he wins the primary the Democrats deserve to lose.

Beating Cruz is difficult not because of Cruz but because of the state Cruz is in. Winning as a Democrat in Texas is all but impossible. It's like winning as a Republican in New York or California. But even then, Beto was remarkably close.

LOLs...you mean like Batman?:

So you want BJ not to vote and onejayhawk to vote?

You just did argue it.

When, exactly, was this supposed to be true? Certainly not since 2010 because even Obama's crappy growth was better.
