2020 US Election (Part Two)

Well, Civ V certainly does suck.

Can you elaborate? To me blame falls equally on Great Comrade Stalin who was making it clear he had no intention of allowing independent -or even Finlandization of - Eastern European countries.

Given that everyone was doing the influence game as agreed upon in Yalta, Truman (and Churchill) had no cause to create the cold war over it. The cold war cemented those spheres of influence, into military and political alliances that lasted much longer than they would otherwise. It effectively split not just Europe but the world between soviets and americans for 45 years. And it was avoidable: Austria was neutralized without problems. There was no reason for a number of truly independent countries not to gradually emerge in Europe as each drifted away from control by the ww2 victor who claimed influence in its area. That was the key: it was going to take some time without big international tensions for that to happen. No cold war, no NATO and Warsaw Pact, no soviet troops in eastern Europe (apart from Germany), no intervention in Hungary or Czechoslovakia... perhaps no intervention in Greece either, no dirty elections in Italy, etc. Even Germany could have been reunited much sooner provided they agreed to demilitarization.
Churchill, having been booted off government after the war, wanted to play Empire in Europe but couldn't do it, and the UK was was giving up in crazy imperial ambitions. So it was Truman's choice alone that prompted the Cold War. Stalin reacted as he was bound to react: tightening control over "his" area lest it be taken by the enemy. It was an avoidable escalation that created the so-called "iron wall". Perhaps it was Korea also that made it worse and really cemented the cold war, but Truman had already gone down that path. The division of Korea itself was a consequence of this choice, not something the koreans wished but something imposed on them.

The US lost an opportunity there and then, in 1945-46, to avoid the MIIC it now still suffers. The echoes of Truman's change of policies, away from the UN concept and into the Cold War, are still present now as the "russiagate" fabrication showed.

Will Trump drop Pence and pick up Nikki Halley now that Joe has Kamala? Seems likely to me. He will give up the evangelical for a female who can be aggressive.
The tokenism runs deep with this one.

Trump is fine with his current VP. Biden is already being accused of making an affirmative action hire of an incompetent who checks the boxes.

I think the very least people can do is not be, like, enthusiastic or personalising or twee about Biden/Harris. They're a grim necessity to restore and protect a bad status quo from an aspiring white supremacist tyrant with blood on his hands. But don't make a virtue out of that necessity.
The problem is that Biden/Harris cannot win this election, but they can lose a landslide.

She's not bat%$(@! crazy?
Far from it. Vapid is one word in use.

He could try recruiting Tulsi for VP, and sent her to debate Kamala...
No chance of that happening, but It would be sooo amusing

I wouldn't say they can't win. I do think Kamala will make a win more difficult, but Trump is simply so ridiculously clownish that at this point almost anyone could win against him.

That said, if Biden manages to lose, people should recall how cool an idea it was to say a final fu to the progressive voters of the party, with Kamala. "What happened" v2 :P

the two Dutch posters with bear avatars whose handle names escape memory at the moment,
@innonimatu @Farm Boy ??

As a Canadian citizen
Do you live in the USA? Just trying to work out why you get so angry about the US elections.

You've posted 6765 times but still don't have an avatar. I would suggest the Incredible Hulk would make a good avatar for you. He is the second strongest of the Avengers, and as I am sure we can all agree, posts made by people who have a member of the Avengers as their avatar are instantly much cooler! :scan:

I don't live in the United States, but I have a strong sense of justice, and it bugs me seeing how many Americans (and non-Americans) are thoroughly hoodwinked by the utter scam of soft-power tyrants that is the U.S. electoral system, and even valiant defend it as a viable and free-and-fair that in any way, shape, or form reflects the will of the people and not the high criminals that sit in government and the plutocratic oligarchy that bribes to dictate their policies.

You make the false assumption I'm an Avengers' fan at all. The Fantastic Four and the X-Men were the Marvel Superhero Groups that actually interested me, and the Thing and Colossus were not nearly so mindlessly temperamental.

Not really. Everyone knows the US system is borked.

We keep asking your for viable ways to change it but you can't do it.

So you've got had and worse pick one.

Why don't you ask the crowd who had been dogpiling me on the "Cancel Culture," thread their solution to racism, or tell them to shut about it? Both are vast, institutional, entrenched, cancerous, and near insurmountable issues, where realistic "solutions," are not going to be easily forthcoming by anyone, but saying, "if you have no solution, you have no right to complain," is just as disingenuous and dismissive, but arrogantly unproductive, and subtly complicent with the problem, as telling those I alluded to the same about the problem of institutional racism. But I know you won't say the same thing to them, so clam up about it to me - you've now been informed that tactic lacks all credibility and why.

For reference, Hrothbern, who is Dutch, and innonimatu, who's posting in this same page of the thread and isn't Dutch.

I'm not a racist, I have black Vice Presidents! :mischief:

I'm not accusing the former Vice President of being a racist, it's just a funny-sounding sentence. It does say a lot about where we are as a country when the politically "safe" pick is a black woman, unthinkable even a generation ago. Harris does tick the boxes, but she's good in that she won't rock the boat too much; Biden doesn't want to end up with an Eagleton.

Great. Now I just realized I'm not even qualified to be Vice President.

truman's Cold War was more restricted and logical than the one Roosevelt would have conducted . Cold War is the replacement of the European Colonial Empires by a two power system and even if America and Russia were like so much opposed to each other , they also managed to do the replacemet thing . That it lasted more than 10 years before a hot war between the US and USSR depends on the Russian nuke and Red China .

In 1994 in South Africa, Nelson Mandela's Vice President was the incumbent White Afrikaner President F.W. De Klerk... :P

Because I don't react that thread. I made 1 post iirc.

Also you pick fights with everyone. No one's dogpiling me;).
