This might not help your situation, but I have a similar computer setup, and I've found that sometimes you have to restart the game in between trying to load two big saves.
I've got AND 1.74 patch H, and the newest version of the RoM. It all started shortly before Renaissance (I'm not sure if this is how it's called, it's when you find out steam power, rifling, communism etc.) and after exploring about half of the map.
My game is turning off! with the "Sid Meiner's civilization 4: beyond the sword has stopped working" message, first time it happened was when China leader wanted to talk to me, next time was when I bought the map from the American empire (he had whole map explored), and then when I was looking at the new places, game turned off, I repeated it about 2 times and the same thing happened so I couldn't buy a map. From this time I can't load my game because while it's loading this message is coming out.
Yesterday I could load older saves before I bought this map, and while playing I could load the newest save, and there were no problems.
But today this error happens everytime whatever way I try to load the saved game. My newest saves take 1.5mb. I deleted about half of the old saves but it didn't help (I save game very often, from the time first bug happened I save game nearly every turn).
I've got 4gb of memory only 3gb readable because of the vista 32bit and 2.6ghz dual core CPU, i think that this problem may be because I have to weak memory or CPU.
Do you know what I can do??
How big is the map you play on, and how many civilizations are in the game?
Did you set the 3GB switch (IncreaseUserVa) for Vista?
What's your graphics card, and how much memory does it have?
Do you have any other programs running in the background?
Did you try to Civ's workload on your machine (setting graphics quality to "low", single-unit graphics, no combat zoom, low-res terrain, etc.)?
Now I got the message after buying the world map:
"Memory allocation failure
Reason: Bad allocation
Exiting the program"
If I remember right, sometimes I had the same problem when I tried to load a game second time, I could load my saved game only once, sometimes more. And I had to restart the game to load saved game second time. But that's not the big problem for me, and it didn't happen for a couple of days.
It half worked. My game still turns off when I try to load my new saves, but I can still load my newest save after loading the oldest.
?: Is saving a production queue (in City Screen) functional using Ctrl+(#)? It's not working for me, am i using the wrong short-cut keys?
?: I'm seeing double new resource flags (one in neutral color, one in mine) when a new resource appears in my city limits. Something else was doubling up regarding the units, .. i'll try to find it again an post it here...
Isn't that normal? When e.g. a new coal resource pops up, you see for a couple of seconds two "coal" flags on the tile, one which signifies "there's coal here" (this one stays, but can be toggled on or off with the map controls), and one for "a coal event took place on this tile" (this will vanish after a few seconds). At least I think that it works that way. In any case it's not specific to RoM:AND, I've seen it many times before.
Apiary is 58 (144/202) hammers and going to take 20 turns.
Lighthouse is 126 (144/270) hammers and going to take 21 turns.
Elder Council is 81 hammers and going to take 27 turns
Shrine is 67 hammers and going to take 23 turns.
Imho, prehistoric, non-irrigated, non-fertilized farms weren't as productive as the ones you see in modern times. Whereas a band of hunters can produce a fair amount of food in a jungle that's teeming with life (since the improvement is labeled "camp", I think it means hunters rather than cultivated land).Feedback: Jungle Camps give more food than a farm! Too much, imho, even when i lived in the jungle there was cultivated patches of food, but not like farms have per acre(!). But hey, if that's how is, then that's how it should be.![]()
?: Shrines and other buildings do not appear to list hammers correctly.
(I'm playing the longest time & largest map) For example in one city:

Have you figured out what is going on yet about the saved games NOT working correctly?
I have now had 4 great games going and poof CTD on loading the saved games, i even tried the autosaved games and still CTD. But they were all working up to Renaissance era.
