Al Sharpton Leads Protest over Rap Lyrics

No, as I am exercising my right to freedom of speech guaranteed by the first amendment to the constitution of the United States of America.

I have the right to express my distaste of rap, just as others have the right to express their like of rap. However, rap music contains content that is a poison to out society. What about the Children? We cannot allow the minds of young people to be poisoned and lead astray by the menace that is rap music.

I agree that banning certain genres of music all together is a bit heavy handed, but if that’s the only way to protect society, then so be it.

Are you serious? Surely... satire? Do you, by any chance, live in 1957? It's the parents responsibility to make sure their child is exposed to what they deem appropriate, no one elses.

No, it is all our responsibilities. If the children turn out badly, it is EVERYBODY that pays the price when the children are turned into thieves, liars, drug addicts, rapists, serial killers etc etc.

We, society should give parents a helping hand by eliminating the threat of rap music before it is too late for us all.

I’ve never been more serious in my life, and the last time I checked I live in the 21st Century.

I assure you, rap music does not transform kids into thieves, liars, drug addicts, rapists, serial killers. And I for one, will NOT sacrifice my freedoms because you are to lazy to be a good parent.

Society can suck my left one. Considering rap music is the most popular form of musical entertainment for the western world, that means all of our kids are already thieves, liars, drug addicts, rapists, serial killers. So I guess it is too late. Not everyone has the archaic view that scary ethnic music can "poison" the minds of children.

Well, you sound alot like a parent protesting outside of an Elvis Presly concert. They thought the same way about rock and roll and HOLY SH*T things are exactly as messed up as they've always been!

Sharpton's finally realizing everybody takes what he says with a grain of salt. This little stunt is too little to late. He should just leave the public spotlight and move on.

While I don't like rap music at all (think its sad such garbage can be labled music), I don't like the idea of banning any words or songs. The constitution protects our freedom of speech, whether we like that speech or not. You don't like it, don't listen, it works fine for me.

Got any proof that rap music turns kids into the following? You don't, oh too bad, you lose, now GTFO.

Threat? Give me a break.

You're a joke. I'm being 100% serious.

I find it funny that a lot of (ignorant) people think that rap music as a whole "encourages" violence and drug abuse. The vast majority of the rap music I listen to is about how such things really suck.

You know... this is the EXACT same thing they said about comic books in the 50's.

And rock and roll in the 60's and 70's.

And metal in the 80's.

And violent movies in the nineties.

Now it's rap and video games. Please. My freedom's shouldn't be sacrificed for something that both hardly effects society and falls under a parents responsibility.

Name one popular rap song about love.

Name one popular rap song about love.

"Love Is" Common

"The Light" also by Common.

Yes, he is popular, having sold millions of records.

I love rap music. It has gone so far as to become a mockery of itself. I listen to rap to laugh.

Rap should not be banned, but I think the rappers themselves should tone it done a notch.

i love every rap thread on CFC.

reminds me just how ignorant a lot of people are.

we shouldnt necessarily drop hip hop, but we should find a way to reward hip hop that speaks a positive message. saying, "you can't say that word" does no good if you don't give them something else to say with their time on the stage.

Al Sharpton gets paid to sit around and find anything potentially racist and offensive, things just like that stupid Intel ad. Every impression I have of him tells me he is full of racism himself.

Once again, its just a publicity stunt. He needs to feel like the next civil rights hero.

How dare you lie, you Greek homo?

Spoiler :
"White folks was in caves while we was building empires ... We taught philosophy and astrology and mathematics before Socrates and them Greek homos ever got around to it."
