Altered Maps XII: Not to Scale

France is a nice place with very beautiful sights and monuments. The Châteaux de la Loire are something really awesome, but once you've seen three or four, you've seen them all. A pity that you'll only be passing by.

Hmm, personally I wouldn't go so out of the way to visit Paris- It's a good city and all, but that's a lot of back-tracking. Taking the Eurostar to Brussels, or even a ferry to a Dutch port and going on from there would do a lot to streamline the route.

You should definitely visit Vienna if you're touring famous European cities. It was the seat of Habsburg power for centuries.

At E I would take Italy over Switzerland. Also I would definetely change F to Vienna, or put Vienna in after Munich.

I was thinking of stopping in Milan, but I'm not sure if I can afford to make another stop.. and I really want to do a hike in either Switzerland or Italy.. The dolomites in Italy seem very impressive, they are definitely on my 'to see' list.

As for Vienna, I initially had it on my list (as well as Budapest), but.. same thing.. I don't think I'd have time for it. I've got a couple hikes picked out around Munich, and I always wanted to go there. Vienna/Budapest/Croatia/Scandinavia are just going to have to wait.

But yeah, nice route. Tell me when you come to Barcelona.

This might not happen for a while, but when it does and I remember, sure

Well.. This is a very rough trip plan for now, and I don't even know if it's going to be my next trip. So it will probably change quite a bit before I end up going.

Yeah? I really only have it on there because it's.. well.. it's one of the big european capitals.

I'm not against scrapping Paris and adding Vienna at all.

Not that nice for a backpacker though. Restaurants and public sanitation are horrible.

You'll be at only 10 kilometres from my home in Belgium at some point :)

True dat. But it still has great views. Lyon or even Toulouse are relatively near warpus' trip.

Viewing the castle at Carcassonne could be a very interesting interlude and if you're going anywhere near central/northern France, the cathedrals of Rheims and Chartres really shouldn't be missed.

I think, to be frank, this itinerary is crazy. You'll waste a great deal of time travelling and not enough getting to know anywhere.

Wouldn't it be better to keep to one or at most two countries? And get a much deeper, although narrower, appreciation?

The stereotypical American tour of Europe is 16 countries in 7 days. Or something like.

Still, your holiday, your money.

Yeah.. but.. There is too much to see. :p

What I might just end up doing is flying to Portugal without a clear plan, and going from there.

Annnd.. here's another map

This thread is too US-centric. :nono:

Why you put a map of Zimbabwe then? You should know Rhodesia is Zambia. :p

No, all of these years... I've been fooled! DAMN YOU, INCORRECT MAP IN A TEXTBOOK!!!

I stand corrected.

To be fair, Zambia was part of it:

I know. but I thought that the non-Britsh colony Rhodesia was only Zambia. BUT IT WAS ZIMBABWE!

North and South Rhodesia, Zimbabwe and Zambia respectively?

That Rhodes was one hungry chap.

edit: no. t'other way round.

Another map. A conversation with hobbs in the Rants thread has made me want to do this: Pokémon World all over Japan! Unova ain't there because NYC.
