As amazing as this sounds, they are saying no illegal substances were found in Winehouse. Just imagine the surprised look on my face when reading this. I guess that is a lesson never to assume.

Toxicology tests have found that "no illegal substances" were in singer Amy Winehouse's system at the time of her death last month, her family said Tuesday.

"Results indicate that alcohol was present but it cannot be determined as yet if it played a role in her death," the family said in a written statement, citing test results provided to them by authorities.

That's true. Perhaps she had the body/physical condition of 90 year old after so much substance abuse and died from 'old age'.

A pretty well-written article that deals with differences in attitudes towards her death. Like in this thread - on one hand, we have people who think she had it coming; and on the other, we have fans and others who think those who are unsympathetic are heartless.

I don't know if he's right in everything that he says there, and some people are bound to disagree quite strongly, but it's interesting anyway.

That was pretty good stuff, thanks for posting. The distinction he draws between "tragedy" and "tragic" is an interesting one. Maybe the fact that people thought 'hey it's ineviable' makes it okay for them to disparage her life or make snide remarks about her death. Strangely, it's that same inevitability that made me feel all the more sad to see her pass away.

Granted, but that's not alcohol poisoning, which is what J-Man originally suggested.

Having once drank ipecac on a dare... I would rather die of poisoning than vomit through my nose again.

My point was that you can die of alcohol poisoning without vomiting. It's entirely possible that Winehouse's body was so shot to bits that it wasn't able to summon together the will to chuck up, which is after all a defensive mechanism.

I have not, no. It usually takes a lot for me to puke, so I know it's going to happen in advance... so I'm laying on the bathroom floor for 5 minutes before I actually vomit.
