Ank12 - A little Furball? - 3CC AW Redux

Keep at the Russians. If we can get this down to two AI, it will be a fair fight. DOn't even worry about stopping the landing fleets until we get frigates.

Ok... not bad. Let's lessen the amount of Civs to 3. :hammer:

Ok, as it's Christmas we'll just play more loosely and people can grab the save when they can... I mean, until year 2005 we'll play without a specific order. Feel free to take the save if you can.

1150AD [preturn]: Land a few troops from a boat at Russia. Check out the situation. Bede and Bugsy recovered well from my :smoke:ings.

IBT: Russian longbow makes one of our knights retreat. Then a Greek knight kills it. Another knight retreats, too. (0-1)

The Chinese land 3 riders near Susa.

1160AD [1]: Slice one of the riders, the Greek knight and the two longbows. (4-1)

IBT: Chinese riders don't attack.. they just go around Susa. a Greek knight and longbow land at Susa.

Greeks complete Smith's in Thermopylae.

1170AD [2]: Need two knights to kill one of the Riders. (5-2)

IBT: It appears the Greeks are a lot more aggressive than the Chinese. They attack Susa immidiately, but are both sent home in small bits... also a knight in Russia tries to attack Immortals guarding iron. It appears the Chinese rider was after our slaves in the open,,, but wasn't fast enough. Didn't catch them this turn, and next turn he shall die...(8-2)

1180AD [3]: 2 immos manage to kill only one ofthe spears in Macao. Kill 2 longbows in Russia. Artillery is useful and needed. (11-3)

IBT: A Russian longbow manages to kill one of our immortals on Iron Mountain. Fortified. Over river. (11-4)

1190AD [4]: Immortals kill one more spear in Macao... and another one is in sight. (12-4)

1200AD [5]: Lose another immortal attacking Macao. A tough nut, I must say. (12-5)

IBT: We lose a second tight battle at Iron mountain.

Chinese make yet another landing at Susa. This time only one rider.

1210AD [6]: Kill a couple of settler pairs, the rider and a longbow (16-5)

1220AD [7] - 1230AD [8]: Approaching St. Petersburg.

1240AD [9]: All five cats miss at St. Petersburg. No attack. Continue siege.

1250AD [10]: Bombard St. Petersburg, and some citizens are killed and defences take some damage. Kill one of the three riders, retreat another one, and lose a knight.

I'll let next player to decide whether to attack St. Petersburg now or not. Note that they have muskets, too.

And the save to next better player. :hatsoff:

The Russians have a lot of culture to wade through. Protect our cats at all costs.

Gots it. Killing Chinese and Russians as I write.

I played five and am passing it on as we need a rethink and repositioning.

Here's my assessment: we have now hit the 3CC wall. Expensive MA techs: Chem, Metal and MilTrad are needed and we lack the core wealth production to learn them in a reasonable time and stilll have cash in the kitty. And it is only going to get worse.

I could not hold on the island. The Greeks started sending cavalry at the Cat and knight force and the Russians kept rebuilding a town on the road to the coast and the force was gone before I could get to safety.

Then the Greeks and Chinese built towns : Greeks west and Chinese north of Perspolis. and it took all the knights produced to finsih off the Chinese Riders, and wreck the Greek town near our closest saltpeter site.

So, we need cannon and cavalry to do this job.

Sent the ships to pick up the forces on the little island in the south and at least get them started towards home.

Here's my thinking: Turn up the bunsen burners and learn late MA warfare techs, Metal and MilTrad and Magnetism. Build a bigger and better fleet, then
invade the other island from the east. Establish a beachhead there, with fortresses if necessary, then think about founding a town. It will mean abandoning Susa, but will give us place to heal troops and also get unload and roll effectives. As it stands the wade ashore technique is leaving the reinforcements vulnerable to whatever comes up the pike. Even if they are not killed the time to heal in neutral ground is just too great and the oppo keeps sending something, even if it is only a longbow, which only prologns the healing. And so on and so forth.

Here's the rub, we generate 82-139 beakers (breakeven (+5) to breakneck (-33)) so we are ~50 turns to getting the knowledge we need to make an effective attack overseas. Meanwhile we need to keep the other guys off the landmass, or at least bottled up, which is going to take most of our current military and whatever we can build.

So, we need to get really creative here.....Right now I'm stumped.

Establishing a town on the other continent has many benefits. The question now is how do we increase our beaker output? I suppose it comes down to cash.

Keeping our landmass clear is plenty at the moment.

I agree. If Greece has cavalry, we have no chances if we don't too.

Use our military to keep the AI's out and don't even try to attack the other island before cavalry... it will slow us down a little, but it is the only chance. This continental map is killing us.

Note: I will be away until 1st of January.

C'mon people!!

most knights in capitol
our landmass cleaned - for now

Ok... any idea when we will be able to try and make a landing?

to get met&MT we need ~25 turns of research (we will have to reduce it further, but wanted to hurry met to build/upgrade some cannons). upgrading some ships to galleon wouldn't hurt either, but probaly takes to much time. so i'd say 30 turns minimum, probably more.

if we decide to use galleons we should call back our fleet to susa. since we want go W, i should have done that anyway.

We have the time to pull the navy back and get it upgraded, build some cannon if we can afford it, then start plotting the final assault.
