Bill O'Reilly has been fired

To be fair O'Reilly didn't get fired for sexual harassment. Fox might have just continued to pay out settlements to keep their top rated show. He got fired because advertisers were abandoning his show like roaches from a dumpster fire.

Lobbyists will contiue to support Dump from the shadows as long as he keeps doing their bidding. The kleptocracy continues until he stops being....well...a <snip>.

Abuser is a strong title for unproven allegations. Not to mention these days even asking a girl out or complimenting her can be considered "sexual harassment".
I think we've got an idea from the Feminism thread what sort of thing you consider a "compliment." Not all compliments are complimentary.

Eh, appearing on a show isn't something you need or are entitled to. I don't condone him doing that, but I wouldn't call it extortion.
It basically is, if appearing on his show was important to her job or career prospects.

And what sort of thing is that?

I guess we'll need more details about the case to say then. I agree, if she was some sort of regular contributor or it was a significant part of her job that makes this a lot worse.

And you are back to you asking questions about how you presented yourself, when there is little doubt by now that you know EXACTLY the image you are presenting. Are you by chance hoping someone will just spell out the image you present because if it were condensed to a single word or two you could play the offended martyr?

Lol, are we going to play this game again?

I guess he'll continue to play until he thinks he has won. That will take considerably more time.

I wouldn't consider that sexual harassment. It's stupid but it shouldn't be illegal.
So if the a grocery store manager refused to sell your mother groceries if she didn't go out on a date with him, you would consider that ok enough for the manager to keep his job?

Let's leave the mother out of it...

Civver, if the grocery store manager refused to sell you groceries unless you stepped in the back room with him for a little action, you'd think that was okay? I mean, there are other grocery stores...of course he might cal around to his other grocery store manager buddies and you might have to do your shopping in the next town if you won't put out...but that wouldn't really be harassment in your book, right?

That's up to his boss. I'd probably be pissed and might report him to higher ups, I just don't think the law needs to get involved.

No criminal charges were filed against O' Reilly. I don't see anything wrong with a civil suit going forward against someone sleazy enough to try to exchange a good, service, or other favor in exchange for a date or sexual favors.

OK, I agree.

hmm...at what point does his behavior become solicitation?

Grabbing women by the pussy ?
Walking in on women change room while many are naked ?

Exactly. It wasn't the harassment, it wasn't the "made public", it was when advertisers stopped paying that they finally decided it was not acceptable. Not exactly the high ground.

To be fair though, advertisers/customers taking their money elsewhere is just about the only thing that motivates a corporate entity to "clean house".

They got rid of him because advertisers were pulling out
+1
Isn't the guy just going to move to an alt-news outlet or maybe start his own?
With ~3.8 million viewers, he could very well start a daily show of his on oreillyfactor.com -he can't have spent all his money on settling lawsuits.
Didn't O'Reilly and his friends use to be the "family values" crowd?
In fact, he just released a book about how old-school values are best values.
From when men were men and women in their place.
And no drugs!! :smoke:
Remember that alcohol, tobacco and painkillers aren't drugs.
It's common for big corporations to conduct an internal investigation and then settle when their investigation turns up perverse abuse of power.
*pervert
I'm glad O'Reilly is gone; he was Democrat-light. Hopefully FOX can bring in a real right winger now.
Why don't you step up to the job then?
I'm glad to see no one really cares much.
Why are you calling us all a buncha no-ones?
