CBob03 Germans in Tu-tus

Wikipedia has a nice index of German composers :)
Oh, that's almost cheating!

But I'm sure I'll have to use it.

mr_2_you knows he is up and is raring to go.

But I need to be reminded that my turn is coming back around.

preflight - i think my log is supposed to be in a special format, but i didn't write it down or anything. will i get fired?

everything looks ok in our little empire, except that we're building *another* granary. do we really need th

one in our capitol?

i hit return:

t1 - 1725bc
the barb near von biel fortifies outside of the city border!
no one will trade us anything.

t2 - 1700bc
wagner settler=>archer (pop 3, growth in 5 turns)

IBT- worker connects capitol to hartig

t3 - 1675bc
biel warrior-> curragh (the better to explore with my deal)

friedrich situation=> we need MP there with pop at 3. none are available and i have to jack the lux up to 60%!!! to see any results there. i hire a scientist, which stifles the growth temporarily.

t4 - 1650bc
explorers explore.

t5 - 1625bc
wagner archer=>worker
archer clears barb camp, get elite & 25 gold.
no one wants to trade anything. russia has iron working.
raise research to 100%, now at -2gpt

IBT - PALACE IMPROVEMENT!
arabs building oracle

t6 - 1600bc
archer arrives in hartig.... let work recommence.
workers finish roading one wheat near hartig

IBT - ghandi appears, wants a tech trade! offers cb for wc...
ghandi has 3 cities and dyes. we get cb +39g for warrior code

t7 - 1575bc
wagner worker=>settler (pop 3, growth in 5 turns)
found city composer=>curragh (next player may disagee with this build)
micromanage hartig so that it will grow 1 turn after granary will finish

IBT - ghandi tries to boot us. suddenly he has masonry and iron working!
indians building pyramids

t8 - 1550bc
remanage hartig
explorers explore

IBT - ghandi boots us
arabia plants a city

t9 - 1525bc
nothing at all happens.

t10 - 1500bc
nada

units 3 workers
5 warriors
2 archers

notes to next player= wew are currently in deficit spending. we've got 56 gold to burn through, so it's no big deal.

we need more mp or a lux. dyes we're uncovered and are semi-convenient. we may have to race the arabs there.
city composer should probably be renamed.
we're building 2 curraghs... please let at least one complete.

our world (spoilerized)

Now, I wish we were agricultural. These sorts of maps have SO much desert and mountains for so little reason.

Why is it that I nitpick so much about cities? I feel that composer should be named 'Composer' (or a German composer's name). I also feel compelled to plant a city 3 S of RW to make sure we can get ALL the tiles. We must. WE MUST!!!! :crazyeye:

It is quite an obsession, if I may say so myself.

The next town should be going west of RW to get the wheat there. Then in 10 turns we'll be all caught up technologically (unless a lucky expansionist civ pops Writing and sells it).

And a tentative dotmap. Please critique; it helps facilitate discussion. I have tried to balance placement in terms of riverside towns and the towns that require food because of mountains.

Tribute, to be honest, I have the EXACT same problem!
The dotmap looks good to me.

So...am I just settling these next couple of turns?

@Mr: I *had* been thinking that one of RW's MPs could be reassigned to Hartig (he could have moved the turn that the settler completed and been on location the next turn) - then only 10% lux would have been needed once RW grew to size 4. Good job at preventing the riot though

@Tribute: My dotmap from earlier still seems relevant:

I'll wait until 3:00 pm (GMT-4) to see if there is anything I need to know before playing. :)

I'm assuming it will just be a boring set of settling and exploring turns, correct?
Also, I'm using Elephantium's dotmap, I presume?

You might want to consider spacing cities 4 apart, so that you can grab territory early and back fill to an ICS style later. It is easier to do an ICS for a quick 100k as it is easier to get 200 cities producing 10cpt than 100 cities producing 20cpt. The number of cities is what will determine the speed.

Perhaps even do a ICS style placing and then colour code them into Now or Later.

i knew that that 'composer' would draw some criticism, here is why i planted the city where it is:

1)we got a cow
2)we got tobacco
3)we got a river

i considered many of the 'dotted' locations west of our capitol and especially tempting was the site with the wheat a little nw. however, we already have a great settler/worker pump in hartig and could use the cow/shield, tobacco/commerce, river/commerce bonuses that composer offers.

if you are unhappy with the city's name, rename it! i won't be offended.... i'm just not knowledgable about composers.

Either map is fine.

Tribute's dot map, except for the city 3S of RW, allows for ICS as RFHolloway mentions.

Tusker's map shows the fill-in cities, which Tribute's does not.

But, yeah, you get to name cities, build roads and fog bust.

One big decision: settle in pattern or grab the dyes?

One big decision: settle in pattern or grab the dyes?

we'll need a luxury and the dyes are the closest.

the growth rate we're going to experience in hartig (two irrigated wheats and a granary) will call for MPs or a temple or dyes (or some combination).

You know, I always thought it would make more sense if the fill-in cities would be in previously AI territory where we had razed their towns to the ground. My spacing is for eventual small metropolises only. If you ICS inside of your good cities, good tiles might be lost (and corruption for our good cities increased excessively). Hence, the dotmap without the fill-in later towns.

The dyes are not going to be connected to our empire for quite a while. We could go for it, or we could get the wheat site (through whichever dotmap is desired) and get some utility out of a town. We'll also have more time to build up a road system towards the dyes, and we won't need to settle early. Unfortunately, the danger of waiting is that the AI might settle for the dyes first.

And I completely forgot! The curraghs! I'd rather have MvB finish the curragh since the eastern side has more coast line that hasn't been discovered. composer will most likely only find the Arabs (and maybe one other civ) before passing the west side of the continent. Besides, our warriors seem to have been exploring that area. During the war, that is. composer can make a warrior MP then a worker. Dyes need to be connected after all. (And cows watered).

I have to ask: Who cares if the Arabs beat us to the dyes? We're going to war with them again in a couple of turnsets, anyway (dyes or no dyes, they're in our way). Whether we settle the dyes before or after we exterminate them makes no difference in my mind.

 (But you make a point, we'll eventually beat up the Arabs)

Well, I got it! :)

Two more new civs, Ottomans and Incans. The Incans seem to be pretty smart, and the Ottomans...not so much (didn't even have an Alphabet).

Not sure if we should build the worker in Michael von Biel, but I had to put it to build something.

There is an archer next to a barb camp in the west, I suggest next player try to get rid of it. Speaking of barbs, god, I got lucky with that goody hut! :D

Composer was placed in a fine location. While I would have settled it as a fifth or sixth city rather than second, I agree that it's a good site.

As for the name...if you don't know any composers, follow the wikipedia link I posted earlier. There are dozens of composers there :)

We have two Warriors exploring. One is heading roughly NW of us and is wounded; 2/3. The other is on the far side of the Iroquois.
We have one Archer not in a city. It is roughly south of the Arabs and facing 2 cHorses on the IBT. It will probably die.
We have an unescorted settler NE of HFH.

1250BC_CityDotsTrimmed.jpg

Long Term Goals
Be the most refined Germans on the planet.

Mid Term Goals
Eliminate the Arabs.
Connect the Dyes, to lessen the need for MPs.

Short Term Goals
Build two, possibly three more cities.
Green Dot first, settler on the way from Ansar's turns.
Light Blue Dot next, to connect up and support Heinz Chur, and lessen the time to connect Heinz Chur.
Pinkish Dot is third, mostly to just fill in the gap on the coast.
Let the wounded Warrior03 heal and then continue exploring.
Let Warrior, currently north of the Incas, explore northwardish.
If the Archer survives the barbarians, explore the west side of Arabia.

Random Thoughts and Ideas for Discussion
India will give Iron Working and 48 of 104 gold for Writing.
Ottomans will give 50 of 50 gold for Writing.
Arabs will give 4 of 4 gold for Writing.

If we make these deals (and I think we should), we might be able to buy Horseback Riding or Math.

Mecca has Wines! We need that.

India has 7 cities; Inca have 6. They are neighbors. We can build an embassy in Delhi for 59 gold, then MA India against Inca. Let them fight each other.
But we would do this, if we did this, after we try to buy Math from Inca.
Not sure if that is a good idea or not. They fight, but we're not in place to take advantage of their conflict.
