CBob03 Germans in Tu-tus

i should have read the entire offenbach article.... i would have NEVER named a city after a french :yuck: composer.

i move that the city be renamed.

i should have read the entire offenbach article.... i would have NEVER named a city after a french :yuck: composer.

i move that the city be renamed.

Jacob Offenbach was born German and moved to France with his family, where he was known as Jacques Offenbach.

He is German enough for me, but the city can be renamed your next turnset, if you wish.

i did mention trading/gifting techs to the other scientific civs.... but i didn't think to do it *before* the age change. afterall, there is no guarantee that we'll get a tech that no one else has already. it something the next player can still do.

There's no guarantee that we'll get a monopoly tech...UNLESS we gift the other AIs to the new age, then buy their tech from them (before closing the Age Change screen). The game won't select a bonus tech for us that we already have.

I got home late last night; no time to play.

I did not consider gifting up anyone else to the MA and then try to get Feudalism from them. That will be the first thing to do once I get into the game. If we can get Feudalism, then what next? Gunpowder for Muskets seems to be good, so does Education for Libraries. I'm open on this.

if we're going for a tech monopoly, it might be wise to make the great library obselete by researching the top row.

or just go take the great library from the civ that built it.

If I can't play any tonight I'll skip myself.

Gift up Greece, Russia, Sumeria or Ottomans, the only other SCI civs.
Greece needs Currency and has 28 gold.
Russia needs Currency and 3 more techs, so probably not a good choice.
Sumeria needs Currency but have 0 gold.
Ottomans need Currency and Construction, have 1 worker and 2 gold.

We have Engineering and 1329 gold to trade for Feudalism.

Sell Currency to Greece for 28 of 28 gold.
And the Greeks learn Engineering. Drat.

Will check again next turn; maybe these three will have more cash.

Hit Enter.

The Dutch accuse us of not tip-toeing through the tulips near Delft, but we promise to be good.
(Tip-toe Through the Tulips, a classicly bad song by Tiny Tim from the late 60s.)

Change of Age barbarians appear in three places.
Up by the Greeks.
A group focused on Basra.
A group to our west that will bother dietrich and eberlin.
Both curraghs are attacked by white ships and survive.

Battle of Kufah
Archer Army (12/12) vs. rSpear, Army wins, now 7/12, rSpear defends Kufah (1 of 1).

Warrior02 is near a bunch of barbarian cHorses; moves E to let them see the Greek Archers nearby.

Trading
Sumeria moved into the MA and learned Engineering also.

We face barbarians sacking some of our outer cities, which means losing gold.

Sell Construction to the Ottomans for 3 of 3 gold.
Gift them Currency.
Ottomans learn Monotheism.

Talk to the Russians.
Sell Code of Laws for 1 of 1 gold.
Gift Literature, Currency and Construction to Russia.
Russia also learns Monotheism!

Well, that was a bust. Five SCI civs and no one learns Feudalism.

Unit Moves
Move two Archers towards dietrich. They will both arrive the turn before the barbarians attack.
An Archer joins the Archer Army tile.
One Archer tracks the Arab settler on the west coast.
Archer near Basra is threatened by the cHorses that are S and SE of Basra; moves 1N onto another mountain.

vArcher vs. Barbarian cWarrior, Archer loses flawlessly (1 of 2).

Barbarians sack Basra.
Our people want the Heroic Epic.

And the save is >>HERE<<.

Could be better.

We've added two more ciites (Gustav Mahler and George Frederick Handel) and have two more settlers in the field.
Next turn we connect wines, so that will help our happiness.
We gifted the other SCI civs up to the Middle Ages but none got Feudalism as their free tech, so we are still learning it.
We have border barbarian problems which slow our development a bit.

Our Army is weak, now at 6/12. In a turn or so it can attack again. Our Archers are moving to the front lines in ones and twos.
We destroyed Basra after the barbarians sacked it. We can resettle it.
Arabs have two population points left, as best I can tell.

I didn't record all of the worker moves and tasks. Or all of the unit moves.

Small Wonders
We can build Heroic Epic and Forbidden Palace. Where?

I will try to play more Friday night/Saturday morning.

considering the problems you faced, it's a fine beginning. is the settler farm back in order?

as for the heroic epic and the forbidden palace...

I think the forbidden palace should go in our second or third ring of cities (radiating from the capitol), probably the one with the biggest shield potential. i think the former arab territory might be a great place.

as for the HE, probably our capitol is the best place to build it after we've connected wines (our pop can grow larger & be happy about it).

Heinz Freidrich Hartig is building a vArcher right now, but it can switch back to a settler. I'll check before I start up.

I'll open CivAssist II and play around with the FP location. It was too late last night. I use CAII for out-of-game analysis and MapStat for in-the-game help.

We have a good number of Archers heading to the front lines with Arabia. I've somewhat focused on the barbarians but only as far as making sure our cities are well defended. Not gone Elite-Farming; just not had the spare units to do so (until now :trouble:).

We should be able to take Kufah in the next five turns and be ready to take out Medina. We've got roads from Mecca to Medina, which helps move us along. Mecca will be connected next turn, too, which helps.

I'll try to be a bit more detailed in my log.
I'll try to not overdo being more detailed in my log.

EDIT:
We've got a lot of cash and nothing to spend it on right now. No one else has Feudalism; we might be the first to learn it. I thought we might have to buy it, but that didn't work out.

I was thinking about building embassies.

as long as we can defend ourselves from any demands (and subsequent attacks), i see no problem having excess cash around..... does fuedalism allow cash rushing? (i don't think so)

No, Feudalism uses the whip. :whipped:

I'll check our strength compared to the other civs, too.

Okay, so we've decided on Feudalism. Now, all we need to do is exploit our many food bonuses and settle a bunch of towns. WW won't be an issue if we are attacked if we use the standard catapult bombard and horseman charge and retreat defense. Basically, defensive offense. (Of course, stacks are attacked by slow units, IE longbows)

CAII not too good at this point. Since we haven't learned Feudalism, we can't expirement with it for our Forbidden Palace. We'll have to save that until later.
Hartig, get the vArcher in 1, reset the settler pump after that.

Build embassies before we have any cities sacked by the barbarians.

We could make a little over 200 gold selling Monarchy. Ottomans will pay 52 of 52 gold for it, which is the top dollar this turn. I think we should sell Monarchy while we can, before Greece, Russia, Inca or Sumeria sells it for cheap gpt to the other AIs. But since this is the last turn, we should discuss that before trading.

Mecca Area 150 BC

The Archer Army is hiding under the fortified vSpear on the road to Medina.
The attack plan is simple, move due North.
In two turns four more units will arrive, a treb, 2 vArchers and 1 vSpear.
We should wait for these units before our big push north.
Drat, with cats and trebs we have to detour around the mountains due north to get to Medina. Those tiles are not roaded, not as far as I can tell.
And we don't have any workers we can move to help build roads. We don't have the time to wait either.
Maybe a combat settler along the way?

NW of Mecca is our stack of three workers roading to Kufah. The brownish line is the direct road, 3NW, to Kufah. It may not be the best road.

Hienz Chur Area 150 BC
150BC_ChurArea.jpg

The brownish line is the roads to build with the current worker setup. Only one worker needs to be assigned to road, Worker07. The others should complete their roads. This set of road will then allow east-west travel from Mecca to Pachelbel and even further east.

The light greenish dots are possible city sites between on the way to offenbach.

Michael von Biel Area 150 BC
150BC_vonBielArea.jpg

Once again, the brownish line is the most direct road route to Michael von Biel.

Either greenish dot is a good location for a city; both have fresh water access, a major plus. Neither one puts the route to MvB into completely German control. The light blue dot does put the road under German control, but needs an aqueduct to grow. Here, Green beats Light Blue.

dietrich Area 150 BC
150BC_dietrichArea.jpg

The brown line from Handel to dietrich we need to help protect dietrich. We have mad dudes on white horses in this area, so we'll need to protect the worker and slaves on the mountain south of Handel.
Once the worker stack east of dietrich finishes the mine they can begin to road from dietrich to Handel.
We still need a road from dietrich to eberlin, but that road is rather dangerous to build right now.

Elphantium, that makes you up.

On my turns I founded three cities: Gustav Mahler, George Frederick Handel and PDQ Bach. The first, Mahler, is not too well known to the general public; the second, Handel, is very well known. The last, PDQ Bach, is ignored, and with good reason. :D

Here are three links that deal with PDQ Bach. >>This one<<, deals with the man unfortunate enough to discover the various musical attempts by PDQ Bach, Professor Peter Schickele. The second one, is the Wikipedia entry on PDQ Bach. This one details how Schickele 'met' PDQ.
