CBob03 Germans in Tu-tus

I don't think I'll get these turns done before Christmas.

The Charming Mrs. CommandoBob has embarked upon Operation Kitchen Klean-Up, which is taking longer than she expected, and I am expected to do to the other tasks that she cannot do while she does that. If you're married, you know what I mean.

Fortunately, all of our Christmas gift shopping is done and wrapped, so she does have time for this pet project.

Merry Christmas!

:xmascheers: to all of the CBob03 players and it's lurkers!

Arrrggghhh

but it has been a great read - all 30 (?) pages. Will tune in on Thursday to see how it went.

Yah can't blame a girl for trying

This really has been interesting.. quite a game.
I haven't had time to even open the save yet and don't expect to have time tomorrow (Christmas Day). My plan is to try to sneak in a turn (partial turn more likely) when I can and try to finish my turns on Saturday.

At this stage of the game, playing the turn is easy. The hard part, the most time consuming part, is cycling through the 200+ cities each turn looking for places to rush culture building. That can easily take an hour just to do that.

The huge map size, which made for some fun pointy-stick diplomacy for everyone (and that was the plan for having the map huge, so that everyone could beat up on someone!) also makes the game a monster to MM.

And just a tidbit, the maxium number of cities in a game (all civs) is 512, which is hard-coded into the game. We did not run into this, but some AW games on extra large maps have.

Feel free to download the save if you wish, and play a turn or two.

I can't get past warlord which is why I love what y'all do at these levels.

Then you need to download the game and play a turn or two!

One nice, rather hidden bonus of SGs is that you can play way above your comfort level. Since there is much more discussion of plans and such, you have a better idea of what to accomplish on your turns. In a solo game it is so easy to lose focus of what you are doing. That is harder in an SG, since you only play 10 turns at a time.

A last minute impulse purchase was two new PCs, one for the Charming Mrs. CommandoBob and me. Knowing how I am, I've worked on my wife's PC to get it into shape. The is a used machine, and, well, I've been spending a lot of time working on it. I haven't even turned my machine on yet!

Which means I haven't had a chance to play any turns.

Ahh, the heavenly pleasure of deflowering a virgin...computer. Double that and you are in geek heaven. Just don't neglect your old one too much, or it'll get mad and stop working well....:D

Meh, virgin...computers are overrated. I'd much rather be using one that's been properly configured with A/V, firewall, Firefox+Adblock+NoScript, Starcraft, and of course, Civ 3+noAIPatrol fix+CA :)

lurker's comment: Is this game going to continue by any chance? I was enjoying it so much.

It all depends on the boss man. I haven't seen anything from CommandoBob in days, hope everything's all right... There is only about 5 turns to go to win, I'd hate for this to die at the finish line. If he can't do it, maybe I could, but not this week, as I am up in 3 other SG's right now.

Yes. I finally got a chance to play a turn last night; I'm at the start of 1635 AD.

With any luck I can finish the game this week.

:woohoo:

I have really enjoyed this and even tried a similar one at Warlord myself.

More whipping.
Change geeks to taxmen (4 clicks each!)
Add native workers to cities, then whip/short whip and whip again as needed.
Sometimes disband units to have some seed money, then whip.

Used a lot of workers and slaves to rush this turn. I think this will be the last turn to rush, so almost anything that had hardhats was rushed.

Overseer passed the game to me with 235 slaves and 168 workers; 403 total; That works out to 1.5 workers per city and 6.8 tiles per worker, pretty good numbers.

At the end of this turn we 172 slaves and 32 workers; 204 total.

We'll also have a lot of cranky cities next turn. And some starving ones, too.

If we had Aluminum, we could build Nukes. We'll find Aluminum once we learn Rocketry, in 8 turns.

Cycled through the cities.
Only one cranky city; fixed it. Some that looked cranky after the whipping were okay this turn. They were size 2 and both citizens were unhappy last turn, so they were clowns over the IBT. Now they are content and are in the fields making food.

There are six geeks still employed (somewhere). The cities that were whipped to the @ I've left alone to grow as fast as they can back to size 6 or 12. Once they hit their growth ceiling I'll hire specialists but until then the idea is to grow fast and quick.

We have 380 taxmen.

We had 278 cities in the game.

lurker's comment: Looks like the great feat has been accomplished! :goodjob:

Sorry I couldn't stay for the fun, but as it proved to be, it was very long. :faint:

Also, when is CBob04 going to begin?

One of the 'features' of this game was that no German city names were to be used. Instead, each built city was to be named after a German composer. I fancied myself fairly well versed on German composers, but my teammates quickly outpaced my knowldege. I'm not so sure if they actually knew anything about the composers they found, but they did find a list of German and Austrian composers that far exceded my limited knowledge of German music makers. Once I found that list I used it liberally and only occasionaly checked on the composers listed on it. Quickmix, Karl Marx and Engelbert Humperdinck are three that I recall checking on to verify that the list was valid.

So, to those that might care, and to those that did the work, here is the list of the German composers used in CBob03 Germans in Tu-tus.

(The list is in the order the cities were founded; it is not alphabetcial.)

I had wanted to give a little piece of information about each composer but I soon saw that task was a bit too large to do at the last minute. :D

I think there should be an SG hall of fame, and this one belongs there. It was a marathon, or more like a relay race consisting of marathons. The team changed from the beginning to the end, and I was glad to join it. It was probably the most instructive SG in my limited career, I now know more about whipping than I thought possible. :goodjob: to everyone who participated!

lurker's comment: That was an amazing game!!! I suppose you DO realize you began playing on 6/2/07...over 7 months ago? Well done!!! :goodjob:
