CiVUP - CiV Unofficial Patch

I recently installed CIVUP with VEM. When I start a game with just that mod on, the tech tree looks fine and I can choose my research. However, I have no buildings and am unable to select anything to build. The game won't let me continue until I choose to build something. I've tried clearing the cache and I have all the DLCs. Help.

No go. However, when I started a game at this time, there was a message on the upper bar that I hadn't noticed before. It says:

"UI didnt load!"

Any other ideas?

The steps I mentioned have always resolved these sorts of problems for me; since it's not an issue with the mod, there's something we're both missing. Other people also suggest going to Steam and verifying the cache (I think that's the correct terminology), as there sometimes are some corrupted files.

One other thought: are you loading both CivUp and VEM? If so, that could eb causing the problem as well (since CivUp is included in VEM).

I updated today from the 69 to 128 and I do have some serious issues with the mod.
Is the only mod installed, and no matter what map I select, when the screen comes up, declares my civilization dead. Spawning my civ in the ice of one of the poles.

Anyone else has same issues?

No, never heard of that one. Sounds really Civ3 or Civ2 like where that thing happened all the time ;-)

Have you gone through the steps listed up in the stickied threads of this forum? Namely deleting the old mod first before installing the new one and so on?

Am currently playing my third game of v128, with no problems observed.

Make sure you clear out your mods folder, your cache folder, and your ModUserData folder, then install v128 from scratch.

Otherwise, leftover data from previous installs will mess up your game.

If you were successfully playing v69 before, then almost certainly your main game is 2-3 official patches behind which would seem the most likely problem.

I have the exact same problem... it won't let me play 128 or any other one i try for that matter...

Try updating Civ, as Zaldron suggests above, and also the standard fixes like deleting prior versions of Civ (v69, for example), as well as the cache and ModUserData.

Hey guys, just started playing with the mod. So far...well I quit frustrated rather fast. I'm lost here with so much info, so if you could give me some answers, I'll be happy to try again:

1. Bug of feature? There's no "Load game"-Button anymore. Quicksave, Save and Back to Menu/Windows.
2. Started 4 different games and I always began in a desert/mountain or tundra/ice-region. Some resources, okay, but always in a rather unwelcoming area...
3. There seem to be masses of barbarians, although I did not pick "raging barbarians". Again, bug or feature?
4. I saw that there's a translation thread and that there is a german translation already in the modpack - how do I activate that?

Thanks and sorry, if that was already asked 400 times.

Welcome!

1. Workaround for a bug that prevents mods from loading properly when a game is loaded from in-game - kind of annoying, but necessary for now.
2. Luck of the draw, keep trying!:)
3. Barbs are more dangerous in VEM than vanilla, more early units are needed sometimes.
4. Don't know, sorry.

There's a lot to process at first considering that almost everything is modded to some degree or another, I'd recommend dropping down a level for a game or two to get your bearings (there's no shame in it!)

Loading from within an active game breaks all mods, so we have to load from the main menu. Even if you start in a region that looks poor, try anyway! "Difficult" regions get tons of extra resources and more room to expand. It's very different from Civ 4.

Barbarians are more challenging, but the rewards are also better. Try teaming up your initial Scout and Warrior together to take out barbarian camps. If you're having trouble try the Honor policy. I personally go a scout -> scout build order and use all 3 units to stomp camps, then send one scout out on further exploration. :)

It's very difficult to keep the mod translated, unfortunately, since I know only a little German and no other languages. There's a lot of text and not enough free time in the day to get it all done.

Brandigan asked how to activate the German translations--not if you have any. I personally have no idea. I figured you'd just select German in the Civ5 options screen, but I've never needed to do it.

As for loading games in-game, can you describe how this breaks mods? I've never had any trouble doing so with the few UI mods I've used. I suspect it has to do with how mods apply their unit/building/etc alterations to the game objects via SQL. Perhaps I can dig in to see if there's a solution because this is soooo annoying, especially the way the saving promotions/policies setting change works: you have to load/save/exit/load whenever continuing a game.

Common checklist vanilla bug #2. Click here to see the details. Loading within an active game fails to wipe out and re-initialize global code in mod lua files, the code outside of functions. This problem was so obscure it took half a year to identify. :)

Thanks for the answers! I'll stop using this mod though until you can fix this bug. It's too frustrating right now ;)
