"The problem with Reagan is that all he knows about Southern Africa is that he is on the side of the whites."
-Chester Crocker(?)
Have had some trouble tracking down the original source of this quote, but certainly interesting material for anyone who thinks that Trump represents some kind of continuity break within the Republican Party.
It should also be noted that not a word on climate change or guns last night during the SOTU address. I know he’s only been running the country for 30% of the people but nothing makes it more clear when he doesn’t even mention the other sides concerns.

As I keep saying, Trump is just the latest iteration in a progression. GW Bush portrayed himself as a white-trash uneducated, unprincipled idiot. The next successful model was, well…
Hey now I sort of resemble that remark. No wait I pretty much am that remark, but I've learned.
First and foremost I've learned that just because America is bloody damn flawed doesn't make it fatally flawed. We should always try to be better, individually and collectively. Honestly this is something I think democrats and maybe liberals in general need to work on and pound in the discourse. We represent America, the america that believes in all families, believes in our root values, and want to make America better moving forward not looking back.
That may have been the most entertaining thing, but the most significant thing was the Dems commandeering the U-S-A chant for largest number of women ever elected to Congress. Yeah, that's something else that makes U.S.A U-S-A, dammit--not just the usual jingoistic crap that gets the chant.
PBS is doing a segment on Trump's agenda and they lead with, 'Mr Trump's speech was filled with misinformation'. They followed up by picking it apart, making sure to emphasize how he was misrepresented many important points.
They are using big, bold headings, 'What Trump said' and 'FACT' as they correct him. Several times they used the phrases, 'just not correct', 'highly misleading', 'untrue', etc.
I mentioned how Lawrence O'Donnell once put a tweet on screen and there were little balloons, like comic-strip dialogue balloons that just had the word "Lie" in them next to each lie in the tweet. Which was each sentence in the tweet.
I suppose somebody from the legislature or the president of their supreme court should take charge until a byelection is held, but given how quirky state legislation is in the US I wouldn't bet on it.

Depends on who you ask. Many people were really upset over Chuck Schumer's standing ovation to "the US will never be a socialist country". The camera also zoomed in on Bernie Sanders.
