CoD: MW2 will NOT have dedicated servers for the PC

Review copies, missing copies from warehouses or game retailers, employee leaks...

The possibilities are endless.

I think you have both missed the point. How could it be available for download on the x-box 360?

I don't know how it works, b/c I don't have a modern console, but you can download PS and XBOX games from your PC. :dunno:

Saw it on TPB.

You download the ISO from torrent site, burn it on the appropriate medium with appropriate bypass settings and play it on your modded crapbox.

Ah right.

More bad news, no dev console, no leaning, apparently they don't even have TIME to think about making a demo, it seems like MW2 is almost just a console port to the PC. Also plenty of vague answers and servers are capped at 9vs9. Definitely NOT getting this game until it is cheap enough to be worth just playing the singleplayer.

This picture sums up some of the worst parts of MW2 in comparison to CoD4. Whoever made that picture though made an error with the LAN criteria; I don't know for sure what the LAN situation is but one 'yes' can't be worse than another.

My personal new annoyances of note: no leaning (which I do all the time in CoD4), no console commands (such as the ever important 'reconnect'), no free downloadable content/patches. Also no slouching, and mandatory drugs tests before joining a server.

Sorry to double post but I just had to reiterate how amazing this is. You really couldn't write this stuff... I kid you not, a genuine quote from the interview:

Ignoring IW.net, is the PC version a direct port of the console version?
Mackey-IW: No, PC has custom stuff like mouse control, text chat in game, and graphics settings.

What kinds of pings did you get during your IWNet testing and what do you say is an acceptable ping?
Mackey-IW: I've been playing mainly with around 100ms ping and it was great.

Holy crap mouse control? Text chat and graphics options? Man I don't know how I'm going to find the time to explore these features in between 100ms ping gameplay.

no leaning = less noobs sticking their sniper round a corner. i won't miss it.

it IS a console port to the pc. if you want MW2, buy it on a console. also, servers with more than 18 players were usually spamfests and hence pretty rubbish on MW1. just please, wait until it actually comes out before criticizing everything they say... who knows, it might not actually be all bad. don't judge a book by its cover and all that jazz.

Pffft, it doesn't take a microscope to grasp that this is going to be a pretty gimped title compared to the last one. I mean, 9vs9? Mouse support?

You could do 9vs9 in MW1 anyways, but support was there for more players if you wanted. I was really looking forward to this game as well, but currently it looks like some bad joke.

Then I don't want it, I cannot stand playing FPS on the console, it is such a pain in the ass and very clumsy to aim, it won't be playable. I can tolerate a few games such as Borderlands (although I still would rather play it on PC) and Uncharted. The reason they turned into spamfests was because IW was too damn lazy to bother making maps that could accommodate more than 24 players, and from the videos of MW2 it still is going to be a nadespamfest just s much. That is another problem with small maps, the enemy is spawn is almost always within nade range!

Yeah seriously, ooh the PC version has options EVERY OTHER PC GAME HAS. The fact that the DEVELOPERS are getting 100ms pings is worrisome, shouldn't they have a server fairly close by or in their building? I get a ping of around 90-130 playing on servers as far away as New York (4000 kms) or Dallas, Texas, and 190-230 in the UK (which, game dependent, is still playable).

Personally I don't enjoy playing on servers that are more than between 4 and say, 10 a side. You are right that it becomes silly beyond that point and I've posted as such here about it I think. The player cap isn't anything I personally am concerned about, but by this point it is incidental anyway, as I'm not giving these people any of my money.

Yes, quite worrying, 100ms is the kind of ping I would expect to New York, when I played on a clan server hosted there. Generally unplayable, the only reason to play on such a high ping server would be if you knew people there. But anyway, take solace in the fact that you won't have to suffer such a poor product as you are free not to buy it! Rejoice! :king:

100 ping is perfectly playable, and I have never had any noticeable problems with it that can actually be confirmed to the ping (there is a thousand and one things that could go wrong and cause a split second mistake that may or may not be real).

But yes, I will rejoice in that I wasn't really expecting the multiplayer to improve anyways, but saddened because I was looking forward to the game and the singleplayer, which really isn't worth more than $20 now.

its different to aim... harder isn't necessarily worse. console aiming has a much higher skill level than point and click on pc. its not clumsy, its not a pain in the ass... maybe you just aren't very good hmmmmmm? i can only think of a couple of maps on cod4 where spawn to spawn combat was viable... besides, if the game is meant for 18 players, why the hell would they bother making maps for more? this is true for all games, if you try and fit 32 men on a server in any map on tf2, it becomes a horrendous spamfest for example. nade spam never hurt me much on cod4, you just had to know where not to run (hint: not towards the grenade)

You know whats worse.... same thing is probably happening to Starcraft2... You just know its gonna cost ya $300 to get all 3 parts and probably another $100 to get DLC. Pc gaming is heading a bad way very fast....

Mice are more accurate than a console controller. It is much more difficult and takes a lot more practice for most people to get to a similar level of ease of aiming quickly and ACCURATELY without fidgeting around on the console than it does with a mouse. Yes I know I am not very good at aiming on the console thank you very much, but it is due to the clumsier nature of the controls. With a mouse, I could easily halve if not more the time it takes me to aim and shoot at people with a console controller, my accuracy would be way higher and my frustration lower. Often I will get the aiming and be like all right now I can press the fire button then something horsehockys a bit and the analog sticks won't let me readjust every so slightly instead the slightest I can move it puts the crosshairs on the other side of the guy's head.

By spawn nading I include the first 5 seconds of moving away from spawn, getting killed within 10 seconds in NOT fun. The reason a 32 player TF2 server can easily become crowded is because the maps are for the most part LINEAR and NOT DESIGNED FOR 32 PEOPLE so bigger maps to accommodate 16vs16 are needed. 9vs9 is kind of small, and even when not playing on a crowded server in M1 I still felt like I was running around in circles on every map, partly thanks to the revolving spawn points.

I don't see why a game has to be limited to such a small number of players, with proper maps you could easily get up to 64 players, and in many games it is more realistic to have more players (WW2 settings for example).

Speaking of big maps - BF42 and especially BFV both had ginormous ones. Can't be too hard to do...

Ridiculous *facepalm*. Remember the days when PC gaming pushed technology forward and helped consoles evolve? Nowadays developers develop games for consoles and port crappy versions to PC, and the PC versions are polluted by all the unthinkable console problems. Jayzus.

As for PC vs Console

Console = harder to aim, takes more practice to master the control

PC = Most people can aim pretty well, makes it more important to take cover, seems to require more tactical choices and patience

BF is designed for larger scale warfare... they are different games. bf simulates war in open country, whereas cod simulates urban conflict primarily. cod is an 18 player game, thats how its designed. if you don't want it, don't buy it. but please stop complaining.

i wish people would simply understand that call of duty is primarily designed for 18 player games on the console. thats how it works best. be grateful that it is even being released on pc. anyone with any sense would buy it for the medium for which it is intended: console. i know originally call of duty was a pc game primarily, but times have changed. there are still plenty of good fps games that were specifically designed for the pc and hence work a lot better on them: cs, tf2, bf42 etc.
