Console versions

they have one for the cell phones i think. THey are making a new version of civ II for them.

After doing Pirates! he said there are some games that should NOT be made for consoles and I'm getting the idea that he would include Civ in that category.

True. Civ can't be played better on anything other than a PC.

I mean, how do you control everything that is going on in Civ on a console? Sure it can be designed, but it'll probably be very uncomfortable.

Civ IV (or even 2 or 3) would work great on the Nintendo DS. I would be the happiest person alive if they ever did that. Think about it, a portable Civ.

well you can get civ2 on the PS1.. so why not. Its so late in developement now its not like we would lose anything on PC

Civ2 is on N-gage.

I agree with a DS version. I don't think it would work well on the other consoles or portables due to interface issues. But I think that it would work well on DS do to the dual screens and touch screen interface. It just seems perfect. One screen would have the map while the other screen will have the amplifying information. Perhaps, with a touch of a button, you could switch the screens so that you could interface with the background. Also, with the wifi, multiplayer games could be included.

They could probably get away with graphics somewhere between Civ III and Civ IV (doesn't have to be 3D). However, the gameplay could be based off of Civ IV.

There still isn't much in the way of processing power in those handheld units. Every game would either have to be on a tiny or small map, we would only have 8-12 civs, and modding wouldn't happen for the most part. I'm sure everybody with a PIII will take offense at the processing power jab, but if you can afford a $200 portable unit, shouldn't your computer be up to date? How many turns do you get out of the batteries when you have to wait 10 minutes between turns with the handheld working at it's max to calculate everything?

I do like the idea of being able to take the game with me, I just don't see it as being able to live up to standards on a handheld.

Time for a laptop if it matters that much.

There are other Turn Based Strategy games on the console, microbe. Shattered Union coming out soon is slated for all the current consoles and it is a hex-based, turn-based, strategy game.

It's nothing to do with the (false) equation console=action.
But I can't see a Civ game without a mouse. Some games do well without it (Advanced Wars come to mind) but Civ-3 (or 4 if it's similar) would be need a lot of interface modifications to be enjoyable.

I started playing the Civ series on my playstation (Civ 2) it is fine for controlling the units just a tad slower so multiplayer would not work well
