Well, if only scrappy people over the Internet are advertising how this plant will cure all your troubles, I'm forced to assume they didn't.

It however is not my definition. It is how people in general use it.

OK. Well, apparently people in general are wrong.

Also, in North Africa and the Middle East there is the same variety of skin colours as in Europe, only proportions of various shades are different.

In India you can as well find people with pale skin.

At first this graph looked innocuous. But then I noticed something wrong... and before I could do anything, I was consumed by the evil Daedric powers of Pop History.

It almost looks like 2 milliard people were two years ago (Or maybe even the future).

I've always wondered why Big Pharma, all big and mighty, didn't already discover/exploit these "miracle cures".

I worked in this field as a medical researcher for two years. The main reason is how hard it is to collect the data, and how hard it would be to make a patentable extract that can really benefit someone suffering from a disease. The mechanism by which these extracts benefit us is fundamentally different from the major model of drug discovery last century. Most Pharma looked for single compound that would have a measurable effect. With extracts, you're looking for many compounds that each have a small effect, but also have synergy.

Honestly, the data collection have gotten way, way better. It's much easier to run large-scale experiments, and look for beneficial effects. I really think there will be some major breakthroughs in this field of nutritional science within this decade, because there will actually be a dynamite combination that's generally very beneficial for people.

We count aeons since the discovery of math. Sounds very cool imo :)

Greece is correct there, given 1000 AD=Basil II. Just needs a few tens other dates too :smug:

(btw, sad fact: in the early 1940s the global population was around 2 billion. Doesn't look good).

These kind of graphs are misleading and not giving any tangible information. Magnesium is seen as 'snake oil' in this graph, but I can assure you that if you suffer from magnesium shortage that magnesium supplements will help.

The truth about supplements is that if you are healthy, you don't need them and if you're sick because you have a shortage of something, you (usually) need to take the thing you have a shortage of. In both cases you're not the best person to decide what to do. Don't experiment with drugs and supplements yourselves, kiddos.

Spoiler :

What, you think a doctor knows what supplements you should or shouldn't take?

If a blood test shows your iron levels are too low, then (mind that I'm no doctor and that all information I provide has no medical value whatsoever) your examining doctor may tell you it's a good idea to take iron supplements, yes.

Furthermore, if you suffer from certain diseases, taking certain supplements can greatly aggravate the issue. If you have osteopetrosis then taking extra calcium is likely not a good idea.

I think the graph gives each supplement a circle for each supposed use. So for example Fish Oil is there 4 times, once for each supposed 'miracle' effect. Some are more effective than others hence why some bubbles are in different places...

Of course this makes the graphic virtually useless:lol:
