DaNES I: At the Precipice

2nd Infantry Division Brugge Headquarters
Fort Brugge
Somewhere in Local Woods
15:30 January 3, 1925

The men of Charlie Company, 1st Battalion, 3rd Regiment “The Pick-Axe” and so on and so on of the 2nd Infantry Division of the Army of his highness Albert I, have been for the past 4 months completing their training and now having completed basic boot camp have moved on to special or advanced training operations. The current location of this entire company of men is unknown to them and their commanders. Somewhere within the military base and on the edge of a pine forest are all they know. The mission being to reach and capture according to doctrine a small building in a field somewhere within their area. Easier said than done. Being the middle of winter and the harshness of the January morning, it would be a miracle to think at all.

The navigation expert, one Private First Class Alex DeBruyn. Is as usual not acting along his job title. Unable to find the location of the objective and running the time for the mission to be completed down. And no one wanted to do more physical training because of it.

Pvt. Thomas Lambert

“Come on DeBruyn find our course so we can get out of this cold, How hard can it be to find a building in the middle of a field?” said a very annoying, at least in Alex’s eyes, man named Thomas Lambert. A private and prankster of the group. Particularly taking his time to annoy DeBruyn any chance he has. From the rear comes walking the tall and blonde leader of the company, Captain Charles Willems. Leaning on his rifle as he squats down next to DeBruyn and Lambert.

“What’s the hold up Alex?”

“Oh, sir, just having some trouble thinking my coordinates in this cold is all. Would be easier if Lambert kept his mouth shut once in a while.” replied Private Debruyn in a shaky and obviously cold but still humored tone.

“Hey I take offense to that.” Lambert said in a laugh but half serious way.

“Good, if you keep opening your big mouth the Americans will hear where we are.” DeBruyn snapped back.

“Nothing we can’t handle eh boys?” Captain Willems added in. Getting some laughs from the huddled and cold men behind and around him. “No time to worry about Americans today. We have a building to find and we need to get to it in fifteen minutes or I suspect dinner will be cut short. So lets hop to it.”

Within the fifteen minutes remaining Charlie company had gathered the motivation and brain power out of the cold dampness and reached the target. Which in the end was merely two hundred yards away hidden behind a clump of shrubs. Which in the end became the foundation for all jokes against DeBruyn for the afternoon.

After the mission was accomplished it was time for the men to head back to the barracks and other miscellaneous buildings to place gear and equipment used during the day in the appropriate place. Before long it was time to head to the mess hall and eat supper. Ground beef on toast with a special treat of plain pasta. Much to the ‘thrill’ of the men. No better time than any to mention key men in this company. Already having mentioned PFC DeBruyn, Pvt. Lambert and Cpt. Willems. But others in the group that will become revelant at a later time are. Cpl. Lucas and Pvt. Louis Simon; brothers who signed up together being only one year apart. Both shorter men but well rounded in shape and brown haired. Sgt. Arthur de Cock, a well rounded man of pretty tall stature, 6 ‘4, but the men nicknamed him Dick and he has grown fond of this unconventional nickname. Then a few other not so outstanding but key peoples. Privates Milan Devos, Victor Martin, and Noah Smet. Corporal David Jacobs and Private First Class Maxime “Max” Leonard.

---------------

I realize this isn't the best but I am trying to get myself writing so I can have these for the war to come.

I don't normally agree with Chinese Communists/Socialists, but I must say I was touched by the Strategos' story. Of course, I will continue watching what happens before taking a side

Become Doctor Sun Yat-sen. You know we want you to whether or not you want to yourself. ;)

Confirmations thus far noted.

germanicus12, your army isn't officially limited by the Treaty of Frankfurt; it's limited by the amount the various princely states under your control want to spend on a national military. Your navy and air force are verboten, though.

Republic of Hungary maybe. Perhaps.

That's Josef's. :p If no one confirms before the first update, then Bulgaria is both in your neighborhood and fairly well suited to your particular playing style.

Blast! Need to find something else then.

Fine, fine I'll take Bulgaria then. When are orders due?

Lurker's Comment: NO! :p

Spain's open, as I'm not sure that I have the time, because of recent RL developments, or skill to give it the attention many other players could. This is the NES I'd choose to leave first, as it hasn't started yet, though I was looking forward to it.

Okay.

Cleric, Spain is open now, although it's somewhat ramshackle. Bulgaria has merely not been confirmed yet.

And orders are due 1200 noon GMT on Friday, September 28, 2007.

If you want Bulgaria, it is yours. My free time might be tightening up in the next month and I might not be able to devote as much time as needed.

@Lucky- Dutch, not Belgian! :p And you've got the capitalization all wrong! Little 'd', big 'B'. :p

I've had enough of Spain, I'll take Bulgaria and play in my own corner.

Been gone at a debate tournament on Saturday, but I am back to claim Germany!

Confirming Peru.

Prelude: The first embers

It was a cold winter night in the Peruvian capital, the roar of the winds was blowing quite hard and mercilessly. If you just made a quick glance at what was happening it all seemed normal. Nothing of interest seemed to be occurring; the children were sleeping in the wooden shacks and people sleeping inside. However In one particular persons home something was going to happen that would be the catalyst of things to come. A wealthy Quechan was remembering that devastation wracked on the poor as a means to control them from revolting. He saw the suffering the peoples had whenever he walked outside, he would see the staving, old, beggar desperately asking for food or the young seven year old boy who already had to work 17 hours a day toiling just to help his family survive. However one thing this author hated even more than having to see people suffer is to go to work everyday to a mega mansion owned by one of the richest people in Bolivia, possibly in the entire of South America. He detested how the very few rich people got to have gargantuan amounts of money yet the poor had very little money at the very best terms. Baldomero was this person of whom we speak name. He wrote a book about the sufferings around him. This book helped inform the remainder of the shrinking middle class. This book will help what’s to come.

Great. First turn and it looks like I'm going to have to deal with rebels already.
