Leoreth (or anyone who could help), I have been frustrated at the SVN... I am not able to use Tortoise or many other SVN programs (it says "installation not supported by this process type"). I mean, you've released early versions of the Byzantines as well as the Babylonian and Roman's UP... it would be fun to try them out!! THANKS IN ADVANCE!!
The message sounds like you tried to install the 32-bit version of Tortoise on a 64-bit system or the other way round. If that wasn't the cause, report back please
Just tried Rome's new UP out. I must say, it is quite delicious. I was able to take down Greece, Egypt, and Phoenicia within historical times, and probably could have actually gotten the whole Roman Empire conquered if I wanted to go that far. This is really, really going to help things for both the AI and Human. Hooray for uber Rome!
So far, so good
Edit: Some things I noticed-
-Sometimes, after a victory, Rome gets another Legion spawned. I first noticed it after a successful amphibious assault and somehow 3 units were on my galley.
Yeah, Rome currently has three UPs:
1) Its old one isn't disabled yet,
2) the aforementioned conquerors and
3) another idea that spawns a legion for every fifth victory you have.
I have implemented them all to test if they work and what their effects would be. If (2) proves to be sufficient, I can disable 1 and 3 and also decrease their starting units to their original amount.
Another question: how often did it happen that your army against the Greeks spawned on Crete? I had it happen to me three times in a row, although the algorithm should choose a random tile in one of their BFCs.
Also, does anyone have a good idea for a name for this UP? "The Power of Conquests" is obvious, but generic and boring. Is there anything uniquely Roman that might fit into the concept?
-Monarch auto-load for at least Epic and Marathon lengths is broken for Byzantium. The game crashes every time when I try to do these. I'm going to try loading on Viceroy to see if it happens again.
Thanks for the report, I haven't tested them again yet. Will see what's wrong with them.
Awesome, I'm sure this will do the trick, or at least create the possibility for a realistic empire by human players, and bring us a lot closer with the AI. I can't wait to try it out. Do you have any kind of time-frame for an official stable release?
Timeframe no, because I can't reasonably predict how much spare time I'll have the next weeks. But I've already worked out a roadmap I'll try to stick to. That means special care for Mongols or new wonders gets delayed until the next version, but a faster release for this one.
On your Babylonia ponderings:
This is exactly what I thought as well - the problem is that the Babylonian UHV is already that well designed. It incorporates every aspect of the game available to you at the time, so your UP is doomed to either trivialize that UHV or be useless for much of the game.
I updated this mod up to the latest version, (revision 31), but when I tried to start up a game, it just crashed! Is that just a temporary problem?
Revision 31 didn't crash for me, and others don't seem to have problems with it as well. When did your game crash? On a new game (as who?), on loading an old game or already when launching the modmod?
