I would like to cast my vote towards draining marshes at some point down the tech tree. (I mean if you can scrub fallout, it seems to make sense that you could drain marshes...but hey, I'm no Ecologist so I could be completely wrong)...though Ecology sounds like a nice tech to drain marshes at.

I also cast my vote towards a healthy mix of SSX and DoC, cause that's basically been my last month ^_^
You should tell the Germans that they can't found Berlin until they research ecology
I realise DoC has always made extensive use of resources appearing after the game start as well as terrain changes, but surely that stuff should be kept to a minimum since it can't be anticipated by any but a veteran player. Changing tiles to marsh in the Indus Valley within a few dozen turns of the start of the game seems pretty annoying, especially since those tiles would then have to change back some time later. For gameplay purposes I'd say the Aryans should be the reason Indus Valley collapsed even if it doesn't line up with history.

No love for the Bulgars?
An Aryan uprising bent on the destruction of civilization has spawned at your borders
I'm relieved.

I say we get rid of Madrid altogether. Paris and Berlin are already enough crap for European city sites.

Moors spawn in Cordoba (on Coast). Cordoba is renamed Seville if Spain takes it over.

Spain spawns in Oviedo/Santiago.

Barcelona/Valencia spawn as an Indie (on the Silver - perhaps move the Silver around a bit).

There, now Iberia looks efficient.
¡Santiago y cierra, España!

I like DoC for being historical and realistic. If I want only to chose my city sites on logic and maths, I play CIV bts...

Oh, because those civilizations didn't press against each other in real life.
European civilizations also pressed against each other quite a lot, yet Rhye still enlarged Europe for his mod. The worst case of civilizations lacking breath area is Europe in default Earth18. There's a difference between "we're in a competition for land and resources" and "ouch, we're constantly stepping on each other's toes".

If we're adding a civ in Eastern Europe, I'd actually prefer Kievan Rus to Poland (Ukrainian nationalists, celebrate!) Let Kiev stimulate Southwestern East Slavs, while Moscow (whose spawn doesn't need to be delayed much) represents Vladimir-Suzdal, and, later, united Russia. Berlin (Prussia), Wien (HRE) and Warsawa (Poland) give me flashbacks of Earth18. But it's better to add nothing there anyway.

I won't use Warszawa as Polish capital for this reason.

Krakow would be hardly much better, it seems to me.

Riga or Memel for Polish-Lithuanian then?

Memel and Lwiw are 2 very good spots. Krakow and Riga would be the ones I'd pick though.

It's not like Poland's start position was optimal IRL, what with Germany and Russia and all :p

Spain should spawn far enough to the north and get only the northern couple of tile-tiers as their spawn area so that there is an actual reconquista. I'd be more than willing to sacrifice Madrid for that.

Spain was also not a true entity until after the reconquista, so a start at Madrid around 1150 also makes sense to avoid needing to change the capital. Again, I love the Madrid city spot and with corporations it, in my opinion, is the best in Europe

One error in the last SVN update:

When playing as the Mayans, the initial text belongs to the Koreans ;)
I know, most civs are affected. Please be patient, I won't rectify this until the new civs are in because I would need to do this for every one of them again.

Just wondering,
With optional setting for these minor nations,
I guess we have to balance the game with or without the minor nations...
Will be pretty confusing for the beta testing, IMO. These options will matter as much as Marathon/Epic/Normal or 3000BC/600AD start, in giving analyze/suggestions etc...

I too am worried about base fragmentation

These civilizations are designed to have neglectable impact on the game.

But the Moors need to have a fighting chance, surely?

I can forsee Moors v. Spain being somewhat similar to the AI China vs. Mongolia situation. Just as human China can survive the Mongols, the human Moors should be able to defend against AI Spain, ala RFCE++. Also, like China, there's no reason AI Moors shouldn't be able to get lucky every once in awhile and defend against Spain successfully. At the very least, they should put up a helluva fight. Then, if they lose, they can become the Almohads. Or the Marinids. Or something.

So are we not going to have a 1.9 victory thread like the one we had for 1.8?
Oh, I can make one.

Sure. I envision the Spanish to push them off the Iberian peninsula most of the time, but they still should survive in the Maghreb.

hi, i don't know if this is the right place....
i'm playing version 1.9 with England, but i've some problem with the cities goal. I've built/conquered:
3 cities in the central america,caribbean (Panama, Guatemala e Jamaica, all historical area);
5 cities in north america (Quebec, New York e HudsonBay area, H.A.)
4 cities in africa (3 South africa + Mombasa H.A.)
3 in oceania (Tasmania and New Zeland H.A.)
and the objective menu changes from red cross to green v.
The problem is with asia: although I've 5 cities (Cochin and Rangun H.A. / Madras and Bangalore Contrsted a. / Colombo (SryLanka) Foreign area) there is still the red cross.....
maybe all the cities have to be in the H.A. ????
