Discussion on Potential NES and IOT Forum Merger

I would love to be more active in both, but sadly RL realities and time constraints prevent that. That doesnt mean I dont understand the way things work or can't govern them. I was quite active in IOT for some time and have participated in more than a few NESes. I find it hard to believe that I somehow would not qualify as being a member of either community.
But did you do so during the period of November 2014 - January 2015? Apparently that's the magic timeframe during which a person is considered to be active.

Nah, haven't got noticed? The magic time frame is when the #nes chat became the central point of the community and whoever wasn't there (or chose to stay away) isn't part of what some call "the majority of nesers". That's why even EQ, probably the longest player in nes isn't considered a good enough part of the community to be our moderator, he wasn't there in the right time.

#nes became the center of community discussion something like seven years ago, and has been full of people the entire time. You know why? Cause it's live, bro, and we can *gasp* actually discuss our hobby and other things with each other! The horror!

EQ hasn't played in a NES in years (he only mods), and he's far from the longest active person around. Azale has been more consistently active for longer than EQ has (EQ took many long absences that many of us have not), does his voice not matter because he's active in #nes? People forget that EQ doesn't actually communicate with most of the community, unconditionally. He mostly just talks to people in his NESes, whereas the rest of us make no such limitations on our socializing. You're one of the few people who openly opposes community socializing. You have to actually come and talk to people to have your voice heard, not yammering off without context as you are here.

The mods seriously considered limiting the NESers to people active within that time frame. Were you active in that period? Have you bothered to talk to the dozens of people, from both communities, who have been active in discussing this? I haven't seen you in IOTchat or #nes.

You do know NESers were discussing and chatting before you even joined the hobby? I certainly am not against community socializing, I made AIM and shared my other contact information with others long before #nes. You have a thing with misrepresenting others to get your way, eh?

EQ doesn't need to play to be a right enough NESer. And we both know who is probably the longest active person around, and I doubt you want him to be a moderator, so length of activity is probably not the right way to go by. CFC doesn't belong to us, and so we can't dictate the terms here.

And if the mods considered that, they most likely stopped considering it, and I doubt EQ and Bsmith considered it.

And I don't go on #nes and I think you know very well why.

No, I hadn't noticed. I don't use chat rooms.

We all used AIM/MSN and other stuff, but we also know the value of a chatroom to stay in touch with more than one person. That's why it was started to begin with.

And EQ doesn't get my vote because he openly admits he doesn't talk to most of the community and his style of play isn't representative of that segment either. He pushes the merger because he thinks it'll bring him new players without considering the other side effects of reducing the actual NESing community's vote on their own subforum. No one voted for EQ, we put forward many other qualified people who are much more active than him but were ignored by the staff in favor of one of the guys who played nice and stayed behind. Seniority alone doesn't qualify you to represent, if it did Amon or you would be our mods.

CFC doesn't belong to us, no, but it also doesn't belong to anyone on the staff. The owner is AWOL and likely doesn't care about anything but cashing cheques from ad revenue. If the membership fades because the staff ruins the forum (and the next civilization game is a bust like Beyond Earth) there won't be anything for him to gain out of it either.

Let's get something straight. EQ was here for a very long time; he was not here the "longest", though. He had a massively long period of inactivity, at least in terms of moderating (I wasn't in every NES when I joined, so I can't speak to playing). Overall, I probably have more active years as a moderator than him. Azale undoubtedly has more active years as a player. :p

Also, you're welcome to come in #nes. Your odd belief that there's some sort of antisemitic sentiment underlying the chatroom doesn't really hold water when you actually talk to people.

Also also, no one's been claiming #nes is the "majority" of NESers. It is, however, definitely a community venue, which, though you've decided to exclude yourself from it, is still a perfectly valid one.

Actually, if you'd like I can systematically present evidence that I was here years longer than you even if you include my absences (none of which were longer than 2-3 months). Remember, I went through every thread, and can tell you exactly how long I've been a active moderator and how long you've been a active moderator. However, this isn't the place for that discussion.

2nd EDIT: Since NESing began in 2002 there have only been 10 months the entire time when I did not actively moderate an NES. That includes the period of time when I was instead moderating an NES on Strategic Command Center.

lol. That actually made me laugh out loud. I don't believe there is some sort of anti-Semitic sentiment underlying the chatroom. Just one or two people who enjoy using anti-Semitic insults to insult me. Also in other ways, not just that. I don't see why I would volunteer myself to go to a place I mostly get verbally abused in...

As to the whole longest active member, I'm pretty sure I win that hands down. EQ was gone for too long, amon for even longer. I was barely ever away. Thought I have not played in many NESes even at times I was here, like current time where no current NES interest me, we'll now daft brought lifenes here, weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Yeah, so I don't think you get to advertise yourself as longest active NESer when there were long times where you didn't play. :p

And if you want to report abuse to the active staff on #nes, go ahead!

#nes's culture has changed true. I don't think anyone should /really/ care about who's been here the longest. The hobby has changed, just as the #nes chatroom has. And imo, modding a nes is just as, if not more, important than playing in a nes for the hobby to survive.

the #nes culture is imo pretty good atm. used to be bad but now i think it's good. the only real nuisance i've found recently is the bickering between me and luckymoose about eoeand i think that talk is kinda put on hold atm.

lowercase is laziness not irony :)

Here is my Constitution, and my counter proposal of how Nesing-IOT should be run:

1. Merge the IOT-NES Forum
2. Try not to be a dick (Don't kick people out of games just because you don't like them, have some solid reasons)
3. Let WWW/Argentina roam free and don't boot us to OT (We want to chat with our community)
4. Mods come in to the thread only as a last resort
5. IF the Mods are abusing their power (which in this situation should happen rarely), a PDMA appeal should be allowed.
-----

In this situation, we can stop caring about who the mod is, the constitution, almost anything. Let's try to get to a new normal here with all of our new soon to be friends. :)

My suggestion for a unified off topic thread:
