DocT5- The RaR Deity Trial

Sioux, 550AD

Is this really “only” Deity?

Ok, I want Chivalry, and I want it NOW. The reason is the Army bonus – 2 Cavaliers are a 8.2.3 Army, 2 Knights only 6.2.3.
Buy it from Persia for 10gpt, 210gp and WM; this may keep them from attacking us again as well.
Sell Engineering to Germany for 20gp and WM; this was helpful, since they know another island with a Babylonian city.
One more thing: We should have upgraded our Workers to Peasants; costs nothing, but the later work faster.
IBT:
As expected, our Horses get pillaged.
Pike and Knight defend against 4 HAs; 4-0

Turn 1: 560AD
Kill 2 Mujas at Santee2; 6-0

Pikes at Nakota retreat Cava and Knight

Turn 3: 580AD
Ghost Dancer kills HA near Dakota; 17-1
IBT:
Babylon wants to talk; we not.
Pike defeats Muja near Nakota, Pike at Ashur defeats Muja, Pike near Ashur dies to Muja; 19-2

Turn 4: 590AD
Knight retreats to Pike, Knight kills Pike near WK; 20-2
GD kills Cava at BR; 21-2
MW kills Muja at Ashur; 22-2
Horses back online.
IBT:
Pike kills HA at Ashur, Pike dies to Cava near BR; 24-3

Turn 5: 600AD
Elite MW kills Pike near WK, Knight Army kills Pike and Janissary near Ashur; 26-3
Cava Army kills Pike, GD dies to Pike at Niniveh; 27-4
Knight kills Cava at BR; 28-4
IBT:
Ack, 2 Pikes die to Mujas, elite Knight to Cava near Nakota. Bummer, those were the forces to attack the Bab cities. 28-7
Pike defeats Jani near Ashur; 28-7
Knight of the Realm spawned.

Turn 6: 610AD
MW kills Muja, Knight Army kills Cava near Ashur; 30-7
Cava Army kills 2 Pikes, Cava kills Pike at Niniveh. 33-7
Knight kills Pike near WK; 34-7
IBT:
All Babs rally to defend Niniveh (but don’t reach it).
Barb Vessels sinks our wounded Galleas.

Pike retreats Cava at Nakota, Pike dies to Cava on our Horses. 43-14
Templar spawned.

Turn 9: 640AD
Kill 3 Pikes and a HA at Niniveh. Kill Pike near WK, loose Cava. 48-15
IBT:
Loose 2 Pikes, kill HA; 49-17

Turn 10: 650AD
Kill HA at Nakota. 50-17
Raze Uruk (Settler is on the way). 52-17
Kill 2 Cavas and a HA near former Uruk; 55-17

Wow. Even for a Deity AI, the number of units Babylon keeps throwing against us is insane.
IMHO there is no way around removing Babylon from the planet, or at least from the continent. Raze everything genuine Babylonian except Wonder cities (Ur!). Ignore Babylon itself (but pillage it), the Palace gives defence units, and there should be tons of defenders. Prime target is to remove their Horses before they send Cuirassiers.

The Cava Army is unmoved; I for one would move it S to take those two thorns in our side (Babs have at least 2 wounded Cavas there).
Remember, Babylon is in a communal pop-rush Gov.

We have not that much production outside our capital, and not a single commerce building so far. If possible, get a few Bazaars up; they also help with happiness.
I finally sent 2 Caravels out, but to no avail so far.
Research: Absolutism, then Humanism. We cannot afford to research by ourselves, guess we need the Encyclopede.

Keep trading with Persia, we could buy Olive Oil from them.

The Save

Over to mad-bax!

Whuh! Those turns looked like they were full of war! In the beginning you had excellent kill ratio, too bad babys were able to catch up. The situation still looks quite ok.

Good luck to Mad-Bax!

I'm very sorry, I've been unable to play. Work I'm afraid.
I apologise for holding the game up. Please skip me.

Pre-Turn:

This seems the most challenging situation I've been given so far. Let's see how it goes...

Take a while to look around and think what goals could be achieved. Well, I'll try to gain some ground on the babylonians and keep a good kill ratio. I think that's the best goal I can give to myself.

Researchwise I'll go for the Usury as that'll give us marketplaces and closer to Absolute monarchy.

Change sci to 40% for -5gpt and get Gunpowder in 1.

If I happen to get a leader, I'll rush International port in Dakota, as that will turn Dakota into a powercity.

Move the army towards the two babylonian city in the south. Those should be taken so we can concentrate on one front.

I also notice there's an embargo against us between Persia and Germany. That should end next turn.

Hit enter.

IBT:

A cyan naval vessel approaches our furthest boat. Who might that be?

Embargo ends.

Gunpowder -> Usury (in 4)

Bison River bazaar -> Training camp (allows army building -> pillage army with defensive troops to Babylon lands)

660AD(1):

We meet Japan. They are broke, they have 4 cities and we're lot's of techs up on them! I ship Scholasticism to them for WM+2gp. I hope this is good and reveals some new civ locations...

...and it does! We now see where Russians(see 4 cities), French(see 1 city) and Spanish(see 6 cities) are!

Back to Babylonian front : Kill 3HA+2arab pike+1arab knight. (6-0)

Buy olive oil from persia for 170gp+4gpt.

IBT:

Lose MW. (6-1)

Babylonians start counter attack from south : 4 cavaliers pop out of Nippur! Good thing I moved the army there - thanks for the advice DocT :goodjob:

670AD(2):

Kill 1 arab pike with army (7-1)

Southern front : kill all 4 cavas! (11-1).

More in the north : one more HA down (12-1)

IBT:

Babys target Nineveh now. 4 HA move on the hill next to the city and one attacks and dies. (13-1)

680AD(3):

Yankton is founded on the former Babylonian city ruins. Set production to walls.

Move forces next to Nippur in south. That city should be much easier now when there are 4 cavas less :D

Nineveh front : Kill 3 HA, leave last on the hill wounded. (16-1).

Near Yankton I kill one HA and an arab pike, but lose a Templar. (18-2).

IBT:

Babys lose a HA against Nineveh defences. (19-2).

690AD(4):

Kill 2 cavas in south, lose a MW (21-3)

Our army attacks Nippur and barely beats the arab pikeman, 5/14hp left! (22-3)

Nippur is very good defended as I lose a MW against a pike. I need more troops as the army got so badly damaged! (22-4)

Pillage the tropical fruit while waiting reinforcements.

In north I kill a HA (23-4)

We meet the Spain. They have NOTHING (7 cities, even more backwards than Japan!) I ship them Literature for their WM+3gpt.

We now see more French territory. Next turn we can meet them.

IBT:

Spain asks us to leave as they think they have seen our hobo inside their borders. What on earth is a hobo??!?!? :crazyeye:

hobo.JPG

Usury -> Banking.

Bison River Training camp -> Town clock.

Persians start Gutenbergs bible  We're going to have a hurry with the encyclopedia.

700AD(5):

We meet the French. They have 9 cities and they are quite a lot behind in techs.

We also see a Russian Trireme inside French borders and make contact. Russians have 4 cities (!) and 7695gp!!

I buy French WM for 31gp. We now see their whole territory, but nothing interesting apart from that.

I sell Gunpowder to Russians for their WM+1293gp. I buy WM from Persians for 18gp. They don't know other civs.

I could now get Persia into an alliance against babys. That would cost 895gp. I think that is ok as we just got money from Russia and that also should put Persia into military mode and maybe give us a chance to catch up a little.

Babys are very quiet.

IBT:

Nothing.

710AD(6):

We meet the Americans!! Our other exploring ship reaches a continent and Lincoln is met! He has 8 cities.

I ship him Navigation+190gp+8gpt for WM+Banking. As suspected, he knows India and China. China is the largest of those three, and also furthest away. We meet India next turn.

China has already ripped Carthage apart. No more Carthago then.

Kill 3 HA on Babylonian front (26-4).

IBT:

God damn! I miscalculated the babylonian movement points. One of their HA's reached to attack Nineveh and won against MW and captured the city. :wallbash: I pulled the spear to protect a cava on the hill as I thought nothing could attack Nineveh now. I can recapture it next turn. (26-5)

In addition to this loss Dakota riots.

720AD(7):

Nineveh is recaptured. (27-5)

Kill 3 HA and then attack 4th with an elite Knights of the Realm: Win and get a leader! [dance] That leader goes to Dakota and rushes International port! (31-5)

We meet India. They are more advanced than us. I then ship Map Making+60gp to America for Matchlock.

Then I go see Russia : Mapmaking to them for Physics+WM+1130gp!!

India has monopoly on Theory of Warfare. Persia has monopoly on Printing Press. ToW is too expensive, PP could be bought, but it's a dead end tech for AI.

I ship Banking to Russia for 1295gp.

Buy Political Philosophy from India for 940gp.

Establish embassy to Russia for 59gp and to India for 130gp. Did this in order to get better tech prices (turn them to polite) and have the possibility to steal in the future.

Ship Political Philosophy+425gp to America for Metallurgy.

Sell Political Philosophy to Russia for 1601gp.

That's the trading for this turn. I could use our money to get Absolutism (2800gp+WM), but that's too much. I wait a little.

IBT:

Babylonians turn active again: Lose a pike against a cava, but win on defence against 2 HA. (33-6)

Persia wants to trade maps, no way. I haven't traded our WM yet to anyone, next player can squeeze all coins out of it, if we want to share that info.

Gandhi asks our ship to leave.

730AD(8):

Siege of Ur begins: 3 bombards all hit, a fresh pike pops on top.

Army attacks fresh pike and kills it (3/14hp left!). (34-6)

A wounded pike appears on Ur! Only three wounded pikes to go: Elite cava attacks and barely wins (1/7 left). (35-6)

Next elite cava retreats, elite knight retreats, elite knight kills pike. (36-6)

Elite MW kills pike. (37-6)

I run out of attacking units, but there is now only HA defending. Attack with the wounded army (Risky, I know!), and win! Ur is captured! [party] (38-6)

Elite cava kills cava. (39-6)

Disconnect babylonian tobacco, last tobacco is still roaded, but the road goes to our territory only.

Elite knight kills pike, vet MW kills HA and promotes (41-6).

Southern front - The siege of Nippur: Army kills a pike, attacks again and kills second pike (43-6).

Vet cava attacks and dies, vet cava kills a pike (44-7)

Vet cava attacks and retreats, second vet cava attack, wins and promotes to elite and razes the city. We get 4 workers. (45-7)

IBT:

Babylonians counter-attack Ur and we lose a pike (45-8)

Southern front sees a landing of 2 HA next to Nakota. No problem.

Golden Age ends and 4 cities go into disorder. I missed that :(

Santee 2 borders expand and we get gems online!

740AD(9):

Our ecomony is now in bad shape, we need lots of cash-generating buildings. There are markets and bazaars coming up.

Leader reaches Dakota and rushes International port. We still cannot build FP, so this is the best choice in my opinion.

Kill the two HA's in south and a pike near Hunkpapa (48-8).

Finish off 1 HA and 1 cava and pike trying to pillage our camel. (51-8)

No trades done this turn as China will be met next turn, maybe that gives new opportunities?

IBT:

Babys kill our Knight of the realm deep in our territory. Again HA 3 movement points were more than I expected. (51-9)

Bison River goes into disorder even though I checked all cities, especially capitol as it had 1 turn to go on marketplace. WW must have hit even more. Damn!

America starts Magellan's Voyage.

750AD(10):

I don't get this? Bison river still has 7 happy faces and 6 unhappy and it went to disorder? Why did that happen?

We meet China. They are stinking rich (6800gp) and have all known techs.

Time to trade again: India and china know both ToW, buy that from India for 1335gp.

Sell Matchlock to Russia for 1625gp. I don't take Perspective as in my opinion that's not so necessary tech.

Then I ship ToW+1200gp to Persia for Gold+Absolutism+Printing press.

Printing press+300gp to China for Juris Prudence.

Juris Prudence to India for Magnetism+WM+90gp

Magnetism to Russia for 1130gp+wine+spices. This should help against War Weariness in the babylonian war.

Some of our workers are threatened, so I have to attack with a cava which will be left uncovered. Kill 2 HA. (53-9).

Notes:

We can now revolt to Absolute Monarchy. I did not yet revolt, next player can do that.

There are still trade opportunities, as China has techs Persia does not have and the opposite. Also, lots of luxury are available.

I have not yet traded our World Map to anyone! I thought that would be better to give us the possibility to do two-fers / three-fers for a while.

Ur has all the forces unmoved, we might want to move them out of the city as it has a high flip risk?

Research is set to Humanism, pre-build for Encyclopedia is in order. Bison River could start that after the market.

Total tech gain during 10 turns were 12 techs, we're almost at parity with China / Persia!

These turns were VERY INTERESTING, this is a great game! We should be able to pull this off!

Good luck to next player!

One thought of next steps:

How about trying to steal Leadership from China? We could use that for extra trading tool if we succeed. If we don't and China declares, then we could MA India against China by giving them PP. That should slow down those guys. What do you think?

Absolutely superb trading, Tinkez! :goodjob:
And contacts [dance]

Random thoughts:
If I happen to get a leader, I'll rush International port in Dakota, as that will turn Dakota into a powercity.
Not a bad choice; Shurrupak may have been even better, though.

Move the army towards the two babylonian city in the south. Those should be taken so we can concentrate on one front.
Note almost all casualties I suffered (except against pillaging Pikes) were down there.

We're going to have a hurry with the encyclopedia.
Didn't say we have to build it ;).

Russians have 4 cities (!) and 7695gp!!
That's not unusual. The are SCI; bet they are in Demo and did the entire research for their part of the world at 100%. Same should apply to China.

I'm not sure if revolting now is worth it; we're not too far away from Constitutional Monarchy, which simply is THE Gov for us (trade bonus, fast workers, cash-rushing, no rate cap, anti-WW Gov specific improvements).

An absolutely crucial Wonder is Smith's here; either we build it, or we need to capture it by all means.

What on earth is a hobo??!?!?
:hmm: I can tell you aren't used to American slang. ;)

Definitions of hobo on the Web:
A professional tramp; one who spends his life traveling from place to place, esp. by stealing rides on trains, and begging for a living. [U. S.]

lurker's comment: Can you buy the later worker types such as peasant? I am well into the Middle Ages and only seem to find workers for sale. In addition something has been causing Mapstat to report false workers for sale.

That's true, I'm from Finland and English isn't my native language :D It's good to learn something new, and it's nice to see that it's not always those american movies where you pick up the slang.

lurker's comment: Can you buy the later worker types such as peasant? I am well into the Middle Ages and only seem to find workers for sale. In addition something has been causing Mapstat to report false workers for sale.
Peasants et al.: That's a good question...will have to look for that.
For completely unknown reasons, MapStat has problems with the released versions of RaR . That is extremely odd, since it worked like a charme with the last beta build!

Tinkez: Aren't Finns mostly Rock'n'Roll fans? ;) At least, that's how Kaurismäki depicts you, and well, I admittedly don't know much more about your people than those movies, Leningrad Cowboys and Elekäläiset .
'Hobo' is quite common in Blues/R'n'R, even Stones song texts.

[offtopic] To be frank, the way Kaurismäki, Leningrad Cowboys and Eläkeläiset represent Finland is not exactly correct. For some strange reason those are issues that foreign people know about Finland. Eläkeläiset for example is very popular in North Germany, but in Finland they aren't that popular. That band actually just mocks Germans on stage in Finnish and Germans seem to know that. And still they love 'em! :crazyeye:

Few things that describe Finland is our beutiful nature, sauna and Santa Claus, just to name a few.

Regarding the Rock'n Roll, that is popular in Finland. I personally prefer even harder music, for example Nightwish. Well worth checking out, excellent band which has also huge fan community in Middle Europe. They are heavy metal band with a female singer, who sings also opera. Great combination!

IBT: Lose a cavallier to horse archer. Bison River starts Gutenbergs Bible as pre-build for the Encyclopedia.

760AD: Kill 2 cavalliers and 2 horse archers.

IBT: Germany and Persia sign MA vs Babylon and Germany declares.

770AD: Kill 1 cavallier and 1 horse archer.

IBT: --

780AD: Kill 7 arab pikes, 1 cavallier, 1 horse archer and take Shurrupak and Babylon. We now own the Great Lighthouse and the Hanging Gardens. We can lower lux to 20% now.

IBT: Kill an attacking cavallier. We get the Forbidden Palace and Sumer Palace messages.

790AD: Kill 2 horse archers.

IBT: --

800AD: Kill 3 horse archers.

IBT: --

810AD: Kill a cavallier. Trade absolutism to America for coffee and 272gold. Trade juris prudence, printing press and metallurgy to Russia for 999gold and 133gpt.

IBT: Lose 1 knight. Persia heavily attacks Kish. It will be close on who gets it. Humanism learned - research to minimum at social contract.

820AD: Bison River to Encoclypedia in 10.

IBT: --

830AD: Kill 2 arab pikes - Elippi taken.

IBT: China completes Gutenberg's. Persia attacks Kish again.

840AD: Take out the last 2 arab pikes in Kish and take it.

IBT: --

850AD: Take out 2 more arab pikes and take Heidelberg. Kill 1 horse archer. Nadouessiox founded near the bananas. We have a spare hardy clan in Ashur.

Babylon is toast. They have no means to stop us atm - and I doubt they will have to the end. We should not prolong the MA with Persia longer than necessary. It does not help much, but only keeps Persian units running through our lands. We should cancel the ROP too in 5 turns.

Great warring Grs! :goodjob:

Took a quick look on the save and it seems that chinese and indians are already building Smith's. Should we try to trade mercantilism and economics now to us and change the Encyclopedia to Smith? That wonder is quite crucial as it would help the cash flow significantly.

In my opinion it doesn't make sense to try to pre-build Smith somewhere else as our second-highest shield output is 24 after Bison River's 76! We could still have enough time to first get Smith and then get Encyclopedia.

Thoughts?

EDIT: India would give us Mercantilism+Economics for 2lux+camels+1600gp. Then we would have 6 turns to go on Smith.
