DocT5- The RaR Deity Trial

Hi all!

I'm back from a very beautiful vacation in Italian Alps. The sun was shining for the whole week and the pistes were in good condition. Great snowboarding time :D

Great progress on the game. I try to play my turns today.

Pre-turn:
I take a good look on the tech tree as this is my first time playing RaR in modern times. As we're going for space, I'm going to go first for Computer Networks to get new tech building and possibility to build the Internet.

IBT:
Bison River Pentagon -> SETI

1752AD(1):
Capture Rheims without losses.
Move units to last French island and soften Chartes with two amphibious assaults leaving wounded Hussar defending the city.

IBT:
Russian boat appears from mist and attacks Zaragoza and captures it as only a horse was defending. That will be avenged...
"Rampaging Chinese forces have destroyed the Americans." Their death wish was dealt with by the chinese.
Computer Networking -> Data Encryption

1754AD(2):
Capture Chartres and Avignon and the French are no more :D
As the French are destroyed the lux deal with China expires. I renew the deal: Radar to China, 3 lux+261gp+23gpt for us.
Plant a spy to Russia to see their strength, which is very weak as expected.
Find a SPANISH Prize ship? Does that mean that it is from a spanish ship sunk by an unknown civilization? Spanish are already dead! :confused:

1756AD(3):
Recapture Zaragoza from the Russians.
Sink two Russian triremes and get a prize ship. That prize ship actually is labelled as Russian. This means that the other prize ship is from Spanish.
Attack the Spanish prize ship to see what happens: It sinks -> it must have been Russian prize ship as I could attack it.
India has fallen into Anarchy.

1758AD(4):
Land forces on Russian island and kill two rifles.

IBT:
Data Encryption -> The Laser (going for Microchip -> Silicon Valley)

1760AD(5):
Bombard Russian city of Minsk and lose an elite MKIV and a 2 cavalrys while killing 2 TOW and 2 rifles and then capture it.
Land troops next to southern city of St.Petersburg.
Kill Russian army at the cost of MKIV :(
Russians have 8 rifles and 4 commandos and 4 flaks left.

1762AD(6):
Tank army attacks St.Petersburg three times and captures the city.
Bombard 4 Russian commandos to 1hp and finish them all off.
Notice a nice thing: Heavy artillery has a range of three squares!

IBT:
The Laser -> Jet Propulsion

1764AD(7):
Bombard Moscow and capture the city without losses. Gain 7gp (!) and 4 workers.
Sacrifice one to get culture up a bit and prevent possible flip. Upgrade the rest.

IBT:
I do not hold UN-election.

1766AD(8):
Kill a Russian commando next to Moscow.
Bombard Kiev and capture the city. The Russians are gone. :D
China is walking over India as India has only 4 cities left.

IBT:
Jet Propulsion -> Synthetic Fibers.
Sarcee builds Space program and begins first of 10 components needed.

1768AD(9):
Nothing special.

1770AD(10):
Nada.

Notes:
We can now build the Internet, which should be built in Bison River after SETI is complete (3t).
We are currently building 3/10 spaceship parts.
China will finish India very soon and will most likely focus on Japan after that as they are in war. We could take out Japan now as they would be only a snack :)

Nothing much to do now, exept research and build the spaceship. Of course China would offer some resistance if we want to fight them. We are well over pop limit regarding population, only landmass is under domination. Keep that in mind if we are going to fight someone as space victory is quite near.

Check Ergili as it will riot next turn if not dealt with!

That is a common theme for high-level RaR games - only the Human and a really powerful AI left.
Sounds good. Don't expect to see that one again.

OT: (Sorry)

What I want to know is this... no guesses, no "I heard from a mate of mine" but as an actual fact. Does the beaker cost of techs reduce as civs are eliminated from the game? You see, I;ve heard that this is true, and yet I have tested it myself a few times and have not noticed any difference.

This is a subject quite dear to my heart as I am trying to perfect a four turn research strategy for the unmodded game.

Back on topic, I still believe we should try to time conquest, domination and Space for the same turn.

According to the formula, if no civs know a tech the cost is always the same - full price. The only thing affected is the cost to get it second, third, etc.

So in a case like ours where we have tech superiority and are researching everything first, the number of civs is irrelevant.

Does the beaker cost of techs reduce as civs are eliminated from the game?
Sometimes :)

Tech cost is lowered when civs left in the game divided by civs that know the tech and you have contact with increases and vice versa. If you have a division by zero assume 0 as the result of the division.

Lets assume you research a tech no AI knows. Then it does not matter how many civs are left in the game, because 8/0 = 7/0 = 6/0 ....

If you research a tech some civs know and a civ NOT KNOWING the tech is eliminated time goes down. e.g. 8/2 < 7/2.

If you research a tech some civs know and a civ KNOWING the tech is eliminated research cost actually goes up. e.g. 8/2 > 7/1

I can give you a biq to test this if you like.

grs....have a look at my sig. :spank:
Not the link to RaR1.01, not my SG list, the last sentecne ;).

This one C:\Programme\Civilization III\Civ3PTW\extras? I have that.

EDIT: Ok, I see, I somehow only have the Med. Japan and not the WWII folder.

1770AD - 1790AD:

We learn: Synthetic Fibers, Robotics, Super Sonic Flight, Advanced Composites, Microchip. Superconductor is the first tech we can't get in 2.

We build: The Internet, SS Planatary Party Lounge, SS Life Support. Sarcee currently uses Battlefiel Medicine as pre-build for another SS component. Bison River missed 2 science buildings! After the Computer Network finishes it should start the more expensive SS components.

Deals: Sold Jet Propulsion to India for 100gpt + 104gold. Spices deal has run out (we have our own now). Tea deal with China has run our last turn (I have not renewed it yet). Silver, dyes and silks from China run out in 2.

Diplo/wars: Japan and China signed peace. India is down to one city. All our deals with Japan have run out last turn. I shuffled a few units around, so you can attack them if you like, though I would go for space peacefully.

Sioux, 1790AD

Ok, this game is won; if we don’t care for the details, we may win a couple of turns later, that’s all. :)

But:
Why are we building expensive research buildings or production boosters almost everywhere, when we can only afford 50% research due to paying 1857gpt maintenance cost, and don’t have anything of interest left to build except the SS parts?
And, there aren’t many SS parts left – but some of those are horribly expensive. The Engine costs 4750sp…

Our cities are full with questionable improvements. Our capital has an Arena, while it has at least 12 Happy Faces from Luxuries, and 30 HF(!) from 10% Luxury :lol:. Scroll through all cities and sell off what absolutely makes no sense. And, I want even more production in the capital and a few other cities for the SS parts. I don’t really see the need for Research Labs and Universities before way cheaper SCI structures (especially Labs, those cost zero maintenance, and Schools at 1gpt). Commercial Ports in cities with 3 water tiles…
Switch lots of builds to commercial ones; our income isn’t great at all.
And, I change the CfC to the SS Engine (due in 19, but we need about 10 more techs anyway). We have like 2 cities that need a free Sewer System., hardly worth a 4000sp wonder…

Sell Mao Communism for style points (and enough cash to make it worthwhile).

India survives as OCC (but with Madras, a pretty nice last stand).

Learn: Superconductor, Advanced Computers, E-Commerce, Artificial Intelligence
Complete: Docking Bay, Thrusters.
In progress: Stasis Chamber (3), Engine (9), Cockpit (3)
Prebuilds: BR (Cure for Cancer; needed that one as prebuild, nothing else holds enough shields), Persepolis

Important:
Research: Fuel Cells (cheap, Persepolis) -> Stealth -> High Tolerance Ceramics (Ext Chasing, expensive, Bison River). Then towards Recycling, the Storage is comparably cheap.

The Save, for the last time.
