I always thought the people I admired would stand on the right side of history when faced with dehumanization and mass hysteria, but I was wrong. Most people stand on the side of power, even if they have arranged the Chess pieces to make it seem like they don’t.

Honestly there was really little reason other than wishful thinking to believe there would be any other outcome.

It's times like these that we remember the wise words of Douglas Adams, that "on no account should anyone capable of getting themselves made president be allowed to do the job"

I hope Kennedy sticks it out. We need a 3rd party. Nothing wrong with making a deal either, it's politics and everyone has a right to fight for a seat at the table.

Judy Woodruff is reporting that Trump is in regular contact with Netanyahu, telling him to not agree to a deal/ceasefire/anything while Biden is pres because it will make Harris look better. A classic Republican strategy of violating the Logan Act that they have been doing for decades.

Nixon did it. Reagan did it. Both will be remembered as in the bottom 10 presidents of all time. Certainly 2 of the worst in my lifetime.

Speaking of Reagan, he stopped the Israeli war on Lebanon with a phone call so saying Biden has no responsibility for the ongoing genocide is complete horsehockey

Founded the EPA, signed Title IX, went to China... ended the Cold War for decades... so much easier than inheriting the wars of democrats, no doubt.

I don't know if stopping weapons shipments would actually stop the war because the Israeli government clearly wants to fight the war forever and Netanyahu (probably rightfully) thinks he has to keep it going if he doesn't want his political career to end. But why not just do it anyway? None of the rationales for continuing to give them weapons make any sense, Israel doesn't need and shouldn't get our help blowing up Palestinian children.

And how does that at all address the fact that Netanyahu is listening to nobody? Different situations. Biden going to say "I just signed a bill outlawing Israel. We start bombing in 5 minutes." No matter how determined you are to hate a liberal for not being a socialist, that doesn't magically mean his power in the world is absolute. That's the retardedness of neoconservative thinking: "Hey, the US is the only superpower in the world!, When the US says do something, the world does it!". As someone who used to post here commonly said, the defining characteristic of the neoconservative is that they are always wrong. And you are doing the same thing.

Biden could say something like "we're applying existing law and halting weapon shipments as there are crediblw reports of Israeli forces violating the LOAC" instead of literally giving Bibi a bearhug.

This crap about me being "determined to hate Biden" is just projection, you're engaged in motivated reasoning because you like Biden and are committed to supporting him. Trust me, I would vastly prefer to be able to support him unreservedly but his actions on Gaza have been evil, sick, twisted - there are really no words to describe how disgusting it is. If you can salve your conscience by pretending Biden had no choice but to give Netanyahu a bear hug, that's fine, but I literally am unable to remain silent about this.

Now, just to be clear: i am not arguing that Biden has unilateral power to determine what Israel does. I don't believe Israel is capable of sustaining operations in Gaza without proportionally very large US support, but reasonable people can disagree on the extent to which that is true.

What is undeniable is the matter of moral resppnsibility. As long as we're arming murderers we share in the guilt of their crimes. It doesn't really matter if the murderer would have found some other means of committing the murder.

And I'm the one letting my emotions control my views.

Fellas, is it gay to do motivated reasoning when the motivation is disgust at the mass slaughter of defenseless innocents?

It is when you are blaming a person who didn't do it.

Well, we convicted those two parents of that kid who shot up the school for giving him the gun he used to do it...

Israelis have no agency. Got it. While I could agree that arms sales be cut off, had that happened once the current war started, the result would be exactly the same number of Palestinians dead and wounded.
