Fall From Heaven NES

To: The Elven Courts

This demand:

5. Luchuirp must be rewarded for their loyalty, with a trade agreement, and either return of their golems or paying of 30 gold per golem we intend to keep. We will also share with them our secrets of archery and tracking.

6. Vile Calabim must be sent a diplomatic warning. They also must be embargoed. If they ever declare war on other civilization, we will consider intervention.

is an absolute outrage. We attacked the Southern Forests at the request of Svartalfar Court for no gain of our own. This is remarkably similiar to the Luichuips form of intervention, except they demanded pay for their help. Why should we be punished and they rewarded? All we have done is help restore stability in our ally's lands, and our intervention was one of the key factors that lead to the reunification of the Elven lands. We ask for nothing in return but our already agreed upon compensation, and that we will not be discriminated against in future agreements, be they trade or military.

Agron.

To Lanun/Amurite/Khazad:

We are both getting an extra trade route this turn, do you want to trade?

EDIT:

New trade route to the Luchuirp (i hadn't seen their post unti just now)
and ready to go!

Orders are in. Extra route to Hippus, if possible - otherwise, it's up for an offer. Anyone?

By the way, Jopa, did you get my latest PM? From yesterday? (or possibly today with time zones)

EDIT: And I replied to your latest email, too.

1. Slavery shall be abolished, now and forever on. Former slaves shall be freed, given land to build homes on and will be treated as true citizens. Those who were not Elves will be able to return where they belong to.

7.The Assembly of Elvenkind shall be established, to represent priesthood, merchants and commoners in the palace, with the power to propose or veto laws, as well and Council of Nobles, per recent noble agreement, with same powers.

Signed, Queen Lydia of the Summer Court
OOC: Seriously, what's up with the attack on the Slavery civic? I understand the horrors of the RL version, but it was better Rome style than America South style. I use Rome style. It is Dark fantasy...
IC:
Response to Queen Lydia
1.The severe attack on slavery attacks a long standing Svartalfar tradition. I do not rail against you pulling the Fawns into service, or any of the Summer Court traditions. Why do you insist on attacking ours?

5.- 6.I will not embargo the Calabim. They show the same kind of loyalty to me as the Luchiurp showed to you and to be so blatantly discourteous is simply bad diplomacy. Have I demanded that the Luchuirp repay the soldiers their golems slew? No. The Calabim were wrong in their assertions of ownership of Summer Court lands, but that issue has been laid to rest. I will not have hot headed vengeful tendencies dictate the actions of this nation.

Finally, I will not allow the priesthood to have a political party of their own. Members of the clergy do not belong in the field of politics. They have their own flock and matters to attend to, with which I will not interfere. I think that a returned courtesy is only fair. You have only to look at the effects religious zealotry has had on other nations to see that we do not want that here. The Gods have their place, and politicians have theirs. The Church and State will remain separate.

Well my opinion on it is why do you need slaves when you could have golems that do the same thing? *wink**wink*

Also in a show of good will to the new Elven state the Luchuirp offer our services in the effort of rebuilding any damages that were cause by the war.
After a report detail the full damage we will list what we can offer. (Next Turn).

To: Balseraph
From: Amurites

We wish to sign a publicly declared non-aggression pact so that we may know that our mutual borders are secure. By public declaration of our good intentions we can better be assured of each other's plans.

Signed.

We realize that the Amurites have no official voice in this domestic conflict but we also consider ourselves a friend of the elven people and hope that this message is taken as such- the support and encouragement of a friend. As such, we would like to propose a few compromises you may wish to consider in the spirit of preventing a return to civil war and needless bloodshed.

The primary problem, at least to an outsider, from the clash of these two well-established elven cultures is the issue of slavery. Slavery, though abhorred by the Amurites, has served the winter court well and is an established part of their long-standing culture. Slavery serves a very important function; it provides production and resources in a way that mines do for other nations. The alternative to slavery is the extension of polluting mining projects and the harvesting of ancient forests for lumber, which, no doubt is as wicked to the summer court as it is to any other elf.
We propose that a compromise be found involving the use of sentient labour so that the natural resources of the elven forests need not be stripped to maintain a competive production capacity.
No longer will sentient beings be bought and sold like property in the elven nation. Instead forced labour will be the just punishment for criminal deeds; the miscreant will be known as an indentured servant and he will serve in a capacity similar to that of a slave for a fixed term (usually 3-7 years depending on the crime) defined by a just contract upheld by a proper and judicial court-of-law.
In this way, production can be maintained but the individual is not property and is governed by a proper system of judicial laws.

OOC: We propose the indentured servitude labour civic. This requires code-of-laws to adopt without penalty and provides a production bonus similar to but not quite as great as slavery. It does not cause the same stability and hostile domestic response as its more totalitarian counterpart.

The second issue is that of the Calabim and Luchuirp and the Amurites are intelligent enough to know not to get involved in this issue. Our personal opinions shall be kept to ourselves out of respect for the domestic and foreign policies of the nations involved. We can only hope that a satisfactory solution be found by all.

We hope that we have not overstepped our bonds with our suggestion and wish you all the luck in finding harmony amongst your people.

Sincerely,
Amurite foreign affairs
