If I had to guess, I'd say Kuriotates, Grigori, and maybe Hippus. Best bet would be Grigori, since they're still (mostly) intact. The Kuriotates are devastated (my bad ;) ), and the Hippus have too many ongoing agreements to let someone take them over.


Other longshots would be Avelorn, Shazaak, Pinea, and the Malakim. Somehow I don't think that starting with a single city or mostly unsettled province would be fun for new guys...
 
I think all the small ones should remain as NPC's, the Northern countries are all lookiing a little screwed at the moment in honesty. They would need support from another powerful nation if they were to survive I would think.
 
Is there any open land for a completely new country?
 
Nothing worthwhile. A few scattered peninsulas, the Wastelands of the Bad Prince (although they might be orcish), perhaps an island here or there.

Replying to Kol, the power vacuum in the North is why I think the Grigori would be the best bet. There would be some room to expand, and an initial lack of rivals (other than the obvious ;) ). Otherwise, the shattered land that was once the Kuriotates' home is pretty much going to stay that way for a while.

There is another option no one considered, which would be a revolt that split a nation in two. No one's really big enough or unstable enough for that to be likely, except for maybe the Amurites.
 
Yeah, that's a possibility. They have taken a few stability hits lately...

You're right about the Grigori, so long as you leave them alone for a turn or two :p
 
I've read the rules, and I know lore.

I thought of taking over the Hippus, but I can see that they have too many ongoing agreements for that wok properly.
EDIT: I don't have much against the Grigori, well except that I planned on converting to Empyrean if I could come up with a proper reason.
 
Maybe a new civilization could come out what used to be the Grigori, without being the grigori? Jopa, what do you think about that idea
 
I've been thinking of different ways to save the Grigori. Only thing I could come with is a Grigori governor (or other city leader) making something similar to a police state, but that doesn't really fit the Grigori.
 
Yeah, Cassiel's dead so if you did it right you could turn them into whatever you wanted. You could do a Varn Gosam-like story, sending some prophet to preach to them and turn them toward religion. Granted, that would be a pretty drastic change but we've seen others just as odd. I mean, the Amurites have changed from an AV-worshipping summoner's civ into a Bannor-like empire.

Jopa's always been pretty good about allowing non-FFH canon to happen, so long at it makes at least a little sense in this Erebus. Having the Grigori change their ways wouldn't be too illogical, since they've recently lost a war and their main leader.

I suppose if someone were to take over the Grigori, I could be persuaded to leave them be for a while. I would probably want a profitable surrender agreement, since I think we're still technically at war, but I've pounded on them long enough to leave them be a while. :D


The revolt scenario is highly unlikely, I think. I doubt the Amurites are that bad off, although having a Second Amurite Civil War would be cool.
 
The real question is what to transform the Grigori into. Bannor seems obvious, but the Amurites have already taken them.

Its good to see a new player interested in playing this game.

The Grigori as Empyrean would be pretty cool and i think Orange's idea of a prophet preaching to them (it could be Malakim missionary) would be pretty neat too.

The Rules of Martial Law, for the city of Hammerfel (once called North Corel)


1) All persons in open revolt against the Lanun state will be executed without trial.
2) All persons convicted by a three-Captain jury of treason against the state will be executed.
3) Any Lanun soldier killed due to the actions of rebels will be avenged with the deaths of five residents of the city.
4) Any native Lanun citizen killed due to the actions of rebels will be avenged with the deaths of three residents of the city.
5) Other crimes shall be punished according to the Pirate’s Code, although should there be a unanimous decision among a three-Captain jury punishment for crimes may be changed.
6) There will be a curfew beginning at nightfall. Exemptions are possible, but those found out of doors without an exemption shall be fined, imprisoned, or enslaved at the discretion of a three-Captain jury.
7) Public outcry against the Lanun state will be punished with fines, imprisonment, or enslavery as determined by a three-Captain jury.
8) Searches may be made at the discretion of military Captains, without warrants.
9) Any resident of the city may be taken for interrogation for a period not to exceed three days for any reason. After that period, they must be charged with a crime or released.


These laws shall be enforced until such time as martial law is relaxed in the city.
