Yeah, they weren't nearly as fun as the people who are nostalgic about them claim. In fact they weren't much fun at all.

There's only so many times you can die before you realize you really needed to pick up that inconsequential-looking stick if you look right from your starting position before you realize you want to play a different game on that machine that cost two and a half thousand dollars and is less powerful than smart phone.

Only had Spectrum and Amiga. The Amiga was such a massive improvement over the speccy it was unbeliable the first time i switched it on. It was like going from 50s technology to current computers in a step only. So Amiga for me obviously. But the Spectrum had some bright moments too, more due to the huge imagination and talent of some programmers than to the machine capabilities though.

You guys are just jealous. I credit those old cartridge text games as being one of the reasons I love MUDs so much. Played at this one for many years.

LIES! You can get through the entire Legend Of Zelda without the wooden sword!

Have not used all those listed growing up at the times when their epoch ended. My first one was 386 PC with MS-DOS and Volkov Commander (clone variation of Norton Commander). My favourite is Windows 3.1.

On both DOS and Win3.1 I had this cute FM application:

I guessed that the Amiga was likely to win, but although i was aware of the Commodore64's popularity, it was still a previous generation computer (of the same level with Amstrad, although better than Amstrad) and currently it seems to be quite antagonistic ;)

I got really good at using that thing in university, before I traded up for an HP-50 with COGO.

I still have this:

Old coin-ops were cool :) I was never good at Bubble-Bobble though.
I recall how normal it was to spend a 10 drachmae coin (with which you could not buy anything anyway) on the coin-op of Double Dragon, and play for a full hour given than most people never lost in that game.

It is sad that the coin-ops died with the arrival of the internet-cafe's. In some sense, the coin-ops rewarded one for being skilled in them.

Can't say no to the C64.

My parents had so many games for it too, literally hundreds, (and maybe a couple dozen were not pirated).

Hey! I posted an actual computer, you lot.

The first computer that I used was the Amstrad CPC 464, which ran on cassettes. I think my parents had it before I was born. The only other old computer I used was the Amiga 1200.
