Fox09 - This Means War!

I'm sorry that I missed my playing time. Slot me in after rolo please !

Consolation joke:

Spoiler :
I was talking with my friends about our Christmas Gratification. The first one said: "I'm working for BMW, I'll buy a car from my gratification and from the rest of it I'll make a holiday." The second one said: "I'm working for the Deutsche Bank, I'll get a swimming pool from my gratification and from the rest of it I'll do a world voyage." I said: "I work in the public service. I'll buy a pullover from my gratification." The others asked: "And the rest ?" I said: "The rest I get from my parents..."

yeah, during my set it was 2 sci's and an engineer, w/no more room for specialists. We get a fair bit of production for now w/the proper MM. Though at size 10, how much less eficient is the whip? I had always thought once a city gets past size 8 or 9, the longer refill time on the pop makes the whip less popular -- no?

with 3 sea resources, we can go all growth and still go at a good clip, or we can go no growth and have about 20 or so base hammers per turn.

also, re: the joke -- don't 'fox-like' pictures count for anything anymore?

no? okay --

Spoiler my 2 year old's favorite joke :

Knock, knock?
Who's there?
See.
See Who?
Seesaw! ;)

 that's what I meant

[after rereading my post] That's the idea i had when i wrote all that above! I wonder, w/those 3 sea resources, if it's worth the turns to grow or the turns to whip ~

what's the groth formula anyway? 20x + 2 for growth, where x=current population??

First the joke ( hopefully a lame and stupid one ;) )
Spoiler :
A lawyer and a computer geek find themselfs in a fishing trip at the shores of a caribean island, each one in his luxurious yatch. They decide to get one of those high rum content dinners and start talking about how they got their boats and the high life standart they had:
-You know - says the lawyer - I bought my yatch with the money that I gained due the my house insurance, when a fire destroyed it....
-What a coincidence! - says the computer geek - My house was destroyed in a earthquake and I used the money to buy the ship as you did!

The lawyer looks stares him for a while, scratchs the beard and the hair for a minute or so and finally gets nearer of the geek and whispers:
-Hey...nobody is listening...... tell me....how did you made your earthquake?

P.s The previous joke does not reflect the poster's opinion about lawyers that are members of CFC forums

Now the turnset...

Like I said previously OCC -AW are extremely dull until we find someone to bang heads with. And this was no exception...

Started by settling the GE

Next turn we discovered that someone else got CoL before us:
Spoiler :

Nothing serious.. we weren't after the religion anyway, weren't we ? ;)

In turn 8 it was our time to get CoL
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0039.jpg

Research directed to CS ( 18 turns ATM ). Didn't revolted to Caste to finish this:
Spoiler :
Civ4ScreenShot0049.jpg

Production set in Parth, no hammers invested.

And to finish, some good luck

And some remarks:

IMHO next player should revolt to caste ASAP. I didn't made that already just to finish ToA, but we need to hire more scientists to try to get a GS as next GP ( odds are 59% and falling due to ToA priest ) and to boost our research.

Other issue is the next build. I queued Parth ( for boosting GPP generation ), but a pavillion for Globe, Collosus ( it is still open and it will only take 6 turns to build ) or Moai are viable options. Opinions?

@Greyfox

With current MM , we'll hit  4 turns before CS. Of course that it can be managed with some MMing...

About queue: Parth will help us immensely and it is my favourite for next build. But i dislike seriously the idea of a fin civ with the collosus preparing to outtech us. Besides that both wonders AFAIK are in risk ( Collosus more ) , so the big question would be: we choose to help ourselfs or to damage the others?

Well, we're building wonders. Can you imagine a more suitable player for this turnset as the legendary builder himself ? :) Moreover, the game thinks so itself. But more on that later...

I first look into the city and decide to juggle worked tiles. Growth we don't need right now as we're at the happy cap anyway. We need production. So I move from the 6F+1C tile to the 1F+3P+1C tile, shaving off one turn from the Parthenon. This costs us 3 net food, but we'll have enough in the stock. The math: We need only 1 turn of stockpiling food before changing back to full prod for the Colossus.

I told you the game thinks itself that I'm the man of the hour ? Well, have a look...

And sure enough...

After one turn of repleneshing our stocks we go back to production. Colossus in 4.

Woot ! We score !

Well, both wonders grabbed. Not too bad. The only weedy move was this one:

I prechopped forests and wasn't aware that the (2) in brackets means the forest gets chopped next turn already. My fault, but it did speed up the Colossus and carried over to our next build, the Pavillion. Right now I'm building a Cottage on that tile.

I hand the game off for one reason: We're one turn away from CS. I have not settled myself yet as there is the chance to rush the Shewdagon Paya. Do we want to rush it and make full use od Pacifism/Free Religion ages before it comes available (thus making a triple civics swap next turn) ? Currently the Paya would take 18 turns. I've started the Globe, 12 turns from now, we're growing in 22 and get our next GP in 6.

Imhotep

I would not improve that tile... forest may come back there ;)

Nice wonder grabbing, thanks to the MM. but next player should let city grow, because we're near the globe.... and shift to Caste + Beauro. And BTW, spend some turns in AH and pasture that sheep....

Why are we chopping forest in the BFC...we need that health. My opinion is still to settle the Great people. I would hate to come up 3 or 4 hammers short of building 1 turn units later on because we rushed a wonder.

I've been burned on that before, too many times.

Your pic of Imhotep the GE didn't come up, Imhotep the Lawyer ~ thus, "I have not settled myself" took a bit of work to figure out ;)

also, re: forests & health: we won't need health if we can convince them to build the nat'l park :mischief:

I would settle the GE as well. Early pacifism won't net us that much more and the extra 3 hammers will help our wonder spree later. In addition, we need more research!

You forgot your joke Immy. I think I'm up next so got it. I'll wait a day before playing to make sure we're all on the same page for wonders and techs. I think I will put the city on max growth and whip out the Globe.

re chop - if I want to MM chops, I always issue the chop order to the worker and then cancel the order - that way I get asked every round and can control exactly when the chop occurs. Very useful in vanilla with immediate hammers to the item in the production queue.

........also, re: forests & health: we won't need health if we can convince them to build the nat'l park :mischief:

I was kinda laughing when I read that. I was saying to myself.."fine, if thats what it takes to get Natl park, then chop away....chop till your hearts content"

Yes, Id like to see natl Park...and even more than that, Id like to see a Liberalism....Biology slingshot. We should be heading for Education very soon and once we get Oxford up, our research will skyrocket, so a Biology sling is not out of the question.

With that said, going for an Astronomy sling has its upsides ...as well as some downsides. Upsides are...we will need optics to get there and can send out caravels for the circumnavigation bonus as well as finding out how the tech pace is going...ie:...is anyone gonna beat us to Lib, observatories, being able to load some galleons with small armies for coastal city destruction...downside is losing collosus bonus and our research pace wont be as strong if we went the other route.....Lib to Biology.

hey - remember that plant for extra health event that you got. I got it in a game, went for the extra health, had to put up with 2 unhappy faces, but what do I care if all my cities have +2 health for the rest of the game ... well, that event is a real killer - it happened to me and I selected the same option. Was +2 unhappy faces for ages. And the kicker, the extra bonus health goes away the same time the unhappy expire. You get extra health for the same time that you have 2 unhappy - what a load of @#$^@#%$^#%$.
