Under the excellent leadership of Donald Trump it is distinctly possible that the rioting could go on through the whole summer. I don't really see him as being capable of calming things down.

If fact in his last public appearance he refuse to talk or make mention about George Floyd, and focus his 10 min public speech on China instead, Really a wrong move for me, a blunder.

Alot of these people aren't angry, they're desperate which is even more dangerous for the establishment.

@amadeus can dismiss these people as bums but a combination of COVID and a lack of income when most Americans live paycheck to paycheck is literally creating the situation we see right now,

I’m talking exclusively about looters and arsonists when I say bums. There are a good many decent, hardworking people that have legitimate grievances against the city of Minneapolis.

But there is undoubtedly a bum class that refuses to work, study, or be productive in any way shape or form and they come from all races.

The cop who killed Floyd was probably the senior man, subordinates are reluctant to 'mutiny'. I imagine they thought the guy knew what he was doing, but I'd be surprised if a superior officer was on site watching him do that to Floyd.

Their decision to take the 5th and not cooperate with the investigation suggests to me that they knew he knew what he was doing and were ok with it.

Bad assumption. They are cops. Cops are familiar with the criminal "justice" system. Absolutely nothing good, ever, comes out of answering questions. They know how the system works and it should be expected that they will refuse to answer, no matter what they know, what they saw, or what they think. The unfortunate reality in the US is that that is the safest way to interact with a criminal investigation.

Charging him and convicting him are two different things. By the time he sees a courtroom the furor will have died down. There likely will not be any evidence since the cops wouldn't have recognized that any crime had taken place so none would be collected. Case dismissed.

The media is the enemy of the people. The president has said so repeatedly. Obviously there are Trumpists among the cops, therefore the media should be expecting to be shot at and any casualties suffered among them are their own fault.

I can't help suspecting that but for the looters and arsonists the media would've moved on by now and the cop wouldn't have been charged. Black man killed by police is just too common for it to stay news for long.

Definitely. The protests are keeping George Floyd in the news cycle. But the charges are just a start. I fear that he'll make bail and they'll delay the trial for years and then quietly acquit him.

Looking from the outside at americans it would appear to me that they have an unhealthy relationship between the state/government and people. Instead of seeing the former as servants of the later they perceive them as some sort of occupying force, en evil outside organization that only exists to oppress them. This in turn leads to both sides being unwilling and unable to work together. And thus neither side has any incentive to even try. So they don't try. And the world only hears about it when things fester to the point where you have hooligans burning down a city in overboiling outrage.
