is it maybe time we should send a unit over to have a looksee of their continent?

well we have a ship exploring their coastline, and i don't know where our other ships are. i guess we could send another ship over with a weak obsolete unit we have lying around.

btw, any comments on the message? should i send it as is ?

We have only one ship. We had another but it was sunk long ago by a barbarian galley. The ship we have is a curragh. Can it even transport units? It's a long way from port if we need to upgrade it and I don't see building another ship in the near future. We could send the one we have back home but I think it's more important to explore the Greek coastline so we'll be able to trade our gems to them.

As for the proposed message can we add in that our first harbor will be complete in eight turns (the turn after we get engineering. Tell them we are interesting in trading gems to them.

I also think their offer to give us chivalry early if we're threatened is quite ominous. We should ask them why they think we might need knights soon.

EDIT: We're currently making beakers at the rate of 80 per turn. We are running at a slight deficit with lux @10%. We'll have two more libraries next turn (adding 4 beakers) and two of our cities will also grow. Will have cities growing every turn and a fourth luxury connected soon. All this adds up to an increased beaker rate every turn. :) For now let's just tell the Greeks we're churning out 80 per turn and ask them how this compares to their rate.

alright, then i guess we won't be able to get a land unit over to MIA land anytime soon. that's ok though. thanks for the feedback, here's my revised reply:

Dear MIA,

We were also dismayed to find out that both D'Nuts and the Galls discoverd Engineering before either of our two brillant teams did. It looks like we will have to kick our Scientific traits into high gear! My people will do our best to research quickly, especially now that we are out of Anarchy. Also, we understand that circumstances have changed and your roaming warrior needs to scout out Iroqi land. Just remember that the gates to the cities of Iron will always be open for your people.

Also, we would like to inform you we will complete Engineering in 7 turns and finish construction on our first Harbor the turn after that. My people would also be interested in trading for Fine Greek Gems when we completer our harbor. I hope we will be able to come to a mutual agreement regarding trading of luxury resources.

My people also are curious as to why you stated you would be willing to give us Chivalry earlier than the trade date if we needed it for national security. Do you have word that D'Nuts or the Galls would sneak attack us within the next 10 turns? If you do, is there anything else you could tell us concerning a possible enemy strike to our land?

Now, about your suggestion about developing a long term inter-team Science strategy, we will do our best to contribute. My people will discuss what our priorites are concerning technology and inform you of our beaker costs for the future. If our two teams stick with each other and exchange info and techs constantly, we will quickly advance through the tech tree and surpass the unsophisticated Iroqi and foolhardy Galls in scientific achievement. :science:

Lastly, I will be available to chat on AIM on March 14 in the early afternoon from 1 PM- 2:30 PM. I would be able to discuss foreign policy issues concerning our relations towards the other two civs.

Bye for now. :)

btw, i'm probably not going to get on again tonight and i will be busy tomorrow morning, so if you guys think this message is good, please send it to the MIA email.

I had a chat with fe3333au today and found out the Greeks are strapped for luxuries. We have gems already to trade once we get our harbor but they have not to send us. I suggested they give us workers in return for gems.

He also laid out a proposal for neutralizing the Great Library which I posted in a seperate thread: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=162932

only problem with foreign workers are that they're lazy. still reasonable deal depending on the number of workers.

donsig, did you still send the message or was it not needed because of the chat?

I think the chat made the message obsolete so I didn't send it. Sorry for not mentioning that.

Yes, they are lazy. That's why I was glad to get rid of those old women Xerxes captured so long ago. But they are free and we could just integrate these Greek workers into our cities. I know, we've all read the Gallic accounts of how ugly the Greek women are but if we get those wines connected it'll work. We're last in population and this drags down our production of shields, beakers and commerce. If we got three or four Greek workers and added one each to key cities it would benefit our economy and production. Horsebomb, Provobomb and Shilhanopolis are all size 2 and 3 core cities on rivers and growing slowly. One Greek worker in each of these cities would help.

greekguy, can you write up a note to our friends and tell them we're interested in their Great Library proposal as long as we can hammer out the details within the next 5 turns. We need to know what we're supposed to give each other in the event we build the GL and also in the event the Nutters or Galls build it. Then bring up the gem trade which we should be able to do once our harbor is complete in 6 turns. Tell them we'd be willing to trade gems for 4 or 5 workers. Tell them we need lots of workers to hook up the silk and incence that they will need. Let's not tell them about adding Greeks to our cities yet. ;)

:) no problem donsig, here ya go:

Dear MIA,

My people have disccussed your proposed Great Library Neutralizition Plan (GLNP) and we find it to our liking. We will agree to the GLNP pending we work out the details in the next five turns. We want to the know the specific items being traded depending if we build the GL or D'Nuts or Galls build it first.

Also, we are interested in trading our Gems to you. We were hoping to have the deal worked out before we finish our harbor in 6 turns. In exchange for our Fine Gems, we would request you offer us 4 or 5 of your world famous Greek workers. We would need them for hooking up other luxury resources. We hope you find the terms of this deal acceptable.

Goodbye for now.

that seems all good, send away, though could maybe usggest another msn (or whatever) convo to finalise the deals and then send it via e-mail as it may be quicker.

Dear Friends, Allies, and all around wise-guys,

We have to apologize for our slowness in responding to your letters. Rest assured, we are working hard on crafting a new proposal to continue to vault our peoples to world domination.

Unfortunately, our efforts have been hampered by ongoing and tedious negotiations with KISS. At several points, these negotiations have been on the point of breaking down and war starting. Obviously, if we can't get a deal with KISS and have to go to war with them, our long term strategy will change dramatically. If we do manage to get a peace deal, then our strategy will be totally different again.

Hence our difficulty in putting together a long-term vision to synch up our respective strategies. (We can't match our strategy to yours if we don't even have a firm strategy ourselves! )

As negotiations have progressed with KISS, many members of MIA have gotten the growing impression that KISS is only pursuing these negotiations because they want to use their army to attack a different target. Obviously, as KISS has expressed a desire to attack you back when our relationship with KISS was more open, many MIAers are worried that once/if we have a peace deal, KISS may turn their army of Gallic Swords overseas to your lands.
Now, we feel that this would be stupid of them and we're optimistic that you would handily show them the error of their ways! (KISS has done dumber things before)
However – If you're also fighting a war with Dnuts… a KISS invasion suddenly becomes a bigger problem.

We understand that dealing with the Iroq can be just as frustrating as dealing with KISS – but we wanted to give you a heads up – in case there is anything you can do to secure continued peace with the Nutters.

(Please don't misunderstand – these are only suspicions from the paranoid among us. We have no hard evidence whatsoever of any KISS plans. If we DO get wind of something concrete, you can be sure we'll let you know!)

Finally, we look forward to learning the secret of Engineering from you, and rest assured that we stand ready to provide knowledge of Chivalry anytime you request it. We believe you will find this knowledge to be a hit with the ladies… as well as good for killing things that get in your way!
While we nail down final plans, it'd probably be smartest for you to just stockpile cash after you complete research on Engineering. But of course, that's up to you.

Anyway, this is a long letter for having said so little – but we're confident you'll be patient with us while we try to nail down what's happening with KISS so that we can turn our attention back to long term planning with your people.

All the best,
Your friends over the Sea,
Team MIA

Dear Friends,

Thank you for sending us Engineering, but we really need you to send it with accept. Our units are exhausted by having to keep swimming across our rivers, and bridges would save us much time.

Did you not send Engineering because you require Chivalry at the same time? You are welcome to Chivalry at any time you want it – we weren't sure if you wanted to build more horses for upgrade first. What I have attempted to do with the save is accept your offer of Engineering and send Chivalry with accept as 2 separate trades. Since I am not too experienced with multiplayer, I am not positive it will work, but it seems like it should. That way, you can accept sending us Engineering and choose to accept or not accept Chivalry depending on your needs. If you choose not to accept Chivalry yet, you just have to let us know when you want it, and it will be yours.

Also, just to let you know, kentharu of Team MIA was chatting with Nobody of Dnut, when Nobody let this slip: "You might want to warn your people that the TnT-Doughnut border is getting a little hot". He refused to confirm or deny that Dnuts were planning on attacking you, but we wanted you to be aware that you must remain vigilant.

Sincerely,

Chamnix

When I send them our next save I will tell them that we are waiting for a signed agreement concerning our Great Library Gambit before giving them engineering.

Interesting rumors about our southern border.

Do you think that the Doughnut's threatining may come from our not so concillatory and peacemaking bible? Also do we have any indication of how much Doughnut knows of MIA and our cooperation? They might be trying to plant information.

Has MIA given us any indication of their strength on their contenant? That maybe something to ask them about. (maybe along the lines of "Do you have any idea how well the troops of MIA may be mobilized and able to secure the dissapearence of enemy troops, working alongside, whether in secret or in the open with the ironic troops of iron?"). The diplomatic front between them and their rival on their contenant hasn't seemed to be going all that well.

Do we also want to mention the road that we maybe building with the nutters?

Greetings Chamnix,

Just a short note in reply to yours. First, thank you very much for passing on the Nutters' recent remarks concerning our southern border. We are plaesed to announce that our military advisor now tells us we have an average military compared to the Iroqi. :) We are constantly working to increase our defensive posture, including both training more pikemen and building walls in key cities. We are also working to expand our borders in key areas. We expected the Nutters to be a tad tweaked at the placement of some of our newest cities and have been preparing for any unkindliness that may result. ;)

We have not sent and accepted engineering because we are waiting on the Great Library Gambit Agreement (GLiGA) to be signed. We would rather not gift this tech to you until we have a signed and binding agreement showing us what we can expect in return. We hurried along our research on this tech because we are aware of your desire for it. We have also been working on the Great Library pre-build as you asked. All we ask now is a formal proposal so we can get the agreement finalized ans signed. We would rather not have to trade engineering for chivalry straight up as we feel the latter not as valuable as the former. We thank you for your offer to make this trade if we need chivalry because of war and we extend the same to you. If you are attacked we will certainly trade you engineering for chivalry even without a formal GLiGA in place.

Finally, our harbor is complete and we can now trade with the world! We have gems and you have dibs on them. We need workers and are willing to trade gems for workers! We'll take four workers up front for the gems or five workers if you need to pay on time. (We'd send you the gems now and you could send one worker now and one every four turns for 16 turns making a total of 5 - or you could send 4 now all at once.)

Hope to hear back from you soon.

I think the Nutters are just mad because we built cities to grab the luxuries in the jungle as well as a couple south of the jungle. It was to be expected. We are now average strength compared to the Iroqi. They will figure out we are rebuilding our strength and will think twice before attacking us.

The road is moot now. Our harbor is complete and we can trade will everyone!

Here is the long awaited GLiGA! What do you think?

Dear TNT,

We have big news to report!
We have finally sledge hammered a peace deal with those "slipperier than greased pigs" KISS idiots.
What an ordeal!

Nonetheless, we have secured continued peace on our continent for the time being. Our scientists and economists are rejoicing while displaced warmongers are just left to grumble and wait for another day.

Finally we are free to focus more on our brotherhood of science.
We must admit, we are a little disappointed that after the very generous deal we made with you for construction that you still don’t trust us to make things fair over a swap with Engineering. However, we understand that trust is a hard thing to come by in this world, and we are optimistic that soon you will trust us more fully.

We have prepared the following Rough Draft of a Great Library treaty for you to look at.
Nothing here is set in stone – we’re just trying to get the ball rolling. Let us know what you think!

Proposed Treaty:
1. MIA will provide Chivalry to TNT anytime upon request. TNT can have it immediately following the signing of this document if desired, or they can build horsemen for upgrade first.

2. TNT will provide MIA with Engineering as soon as this treaty is signed.

3. TNT will build the Great Library. TNT guarantees completion of the Great Library no later than turn 155 if nobody else completes it before then.

4. TNT will provide MIA any or all techs obtained from the Great Library immediately upon MIA's request.

5. If the Great Library is completed by Dnuts or KISS before TNT and before turn 155, then MIA will provide TNT all techs researched by MIA up to that point and TNT will provide MIA with ONE of the following (TNT’s Choice):
a) 25% of the Gold TNT accumulated during the period of building the Great Library when TNT was stockpiling gold instead of researching.
b) Gold equal to 25% of the monopoly beaker cost of the Techs that MIA provides to TNT for free.
c) 300 gold
TNT is free to choose the cheapest option for them, and would not be required to provide all of the gold until 30 turns following the gifting of the techs. We believe this is unlikely, and hope that this whole clause is irrelevant.

6. Upon the earlier of the Great Library being neutralized by Dnuts or KISS reaching Education, or once the Great Library provides Military Tradition, MIA will give TNT all Middle Age techs that MIA has researched at that point. MIA guarantees to provide at least as many Middle Age techs to TNT as TNT provided to MIA from the Great Library. If MIA has not completed enough techs to repay TNT in full at that point, then MIA will continue to give techs to TNT as soon as they are completed until payment is satisfied.

7. TNT guarantees the safety of the Great Library. Until both Dnuts and KISS have Education, TNT guarantees that the town containing the Great Library will not be captured. If there are at least as many enemy units within striking range of the Great Library town as there are defenders in the town, then TNT agrees to abandon the Great Library town rather than risk it falling into enemy hands.

8. None of the techs provided by TNT to MIA may be traded sold or gifted to any other civ by MIA, and none of the techs provided by MIA to TNT may be traded sold or gifted to any other civ by TNT.
Hopefully this rough draft looks fair to you and provides enough cover for both sides if things don’t happen to go according to plan.

Let us know! And we'll get this thing signed and the Alliance of Science will be off and running!

All the Best
Your Brothers across the Sea,
MIA

As i said in another thread, we should get more for our gems, 4 foreign workers isnt really that much, that deal seems good though. especially because arnt we building the GL in dancing banana?
