Greek communication thread

maybe we could ask for some gpt?

also, good to see the ball rolling on the GL Gambit. hopefully we'll have all the details smoothed out here soon, so i can send them a message. :)

I think we need to get a message to the Greeks quickly so we can finalize GLiGA.

Clause 5.a should read (addition in bold):

25% of the Gold TNT accumulated during the period of building the Great Library beginning with TNT's first turn after this agreement is signed) when TNT was stockpiling gold instead of researching.

Clause 8 should read (additions in bold):

None of the techs provided by TNT to MIA may be traded sold or gifted to any other civ by MIA or by TNT, and none of the techs provided by MIA to TNT may be traded sold or gifted to any other civ by TNT or by MIA.

Clause 3 should read (addition in bold):

TNT will build the Great Library. TNT guarantees completion of the Great Library no later than turn 155 if nobody else completes it before then. If TNT fails to build the Great Library by turn 155 and no one else has built the Great Library then TNT will pay MIA a penalty fee of 300 gold. This penalty need not be paid all at once but payment must be completed by turn 185. (Note: if this point is actually reached and TNT is close to completing the Great Library then perhaps an extention of this agreement could be reached.)

Add clause 3.a:

If TNT is attacked by KISS or the Doughnuts before TNT completes the Great Library then TNT reserves the right to nullify this agreement. If TNT chooses to nullify the agreement then TNT will pay MIA either i) 25% of the Gold TNT accumulated during the period of building the Great Library beginning with TNT's first turn after this agreement is signed) when TNT was stockpiling gold instead of researching or ii) 300 gold. TNT is free to choose the cheaper option and payment need not be made all at once and the total is not due until 30 turns after TNT is again at peace. In return MIA will give TNT all techs MIA researched to that point that TNT does not already have.

Clause 3.b:

This agreement is null and void if MIA attacks TNT.

greekguy can you do up a message soon and send it along to MIA with these proposed changes?

alright, here's my proposed reply.

Dear MIA,

My team has discussed your GLiGA and has some changes to propose. Although we have kept the bulk of the agreement the same, we have some changes we would like to be included in the document. Here's our revised treaty (changes in bold):

1. MIA will provide Chivalry to TNT anytime upon request. TNT can have it immediately following the signing of this document if desired, or they can build horsemen for upgrade first.

2. TNT will provide MIA with Engineering as soon as this treaty is signed.

3. (Note: if this point is actually reached and TNT is close to completing the Great Library then perhaps an extention of this agreement could be reached.)
a) If TNT is attacked by KISS or the Doughnuts before TNT completes the Great Library then TNT reserves the right to nullify this agreement. In return MIA will give TNT all techs MIA researched to that point that TNT does not already have.
b) This agreement is null and void if MIA attacks TNT.

4. TNT will provide MIA any or all techs obtained from the Great Library immediately upon MIA's request.

5. If the Great Library is completed by Dnuts or KISS before TNT and before turn 155, then MIA will provide TNT all techs researched by MIA up to that point and TNT will provide MIA with ONE of the following (TNT’s Choice):
a) 25% of the Gold TNT accumulated during the period of building the Great Library (beginning with TNT's first turn after this agreement is signed) when TNT was stockpiling gold instead of researching.
b) Gold equal to 25% of the monopoly beaker cost of the Techs that MIA provides to TNT for free.
c) 300 gold
TNT is free to choose the cheapest option for them, and would not be required to provide all of the gold until 30 turns following the gifting of the techs. We believe this is unlikely, and hope that this whole clause is irrelevant.

6. Upon the earlier of the Great Library being neutralized by Dnuts or KISS reaching Education, or once the Great Library provides Military Tradition, MIA will give TNT all Middle Age techs that MIA has researched at that point. MIA guarantees to provide at least as many Middle Age techs to TNT as TNT provided to MIA from the Great Library. If MIA has not completed enough techs to repay TNT in full at that point, then MIA will continue to give techs to TNT as soon as they are completed until payment is satisfied.

7. TNT guarantees the safety of the Great Library. Until both Dnuts and KISS have Education, TNT guarantees that the town containing the Great Library will not be captured. If there are at least as many enemy units within striking range of the Great Library town as there are defenders in the town, then TNT agrees to abandon the Great Library town rather than risk it falling into enemy hands.

8. None of the techs provided by TNT to MIA may be traded sold or gifted to any other civ by MIA or by TNT, and none of the techs provided by MIA to TNT may be traded sold or gifted to any other civ by TNT or by MIA.

I hope you find theses changes fair, so we sign this landmark treaty soon. The sooner we sign this treaty, the sooner our people will ensure technological dominance over KISS and the Iroqi.

Bye for now. :)

ok, message sent. :)

Here is a proposed emergency message to MIA. This will be informing them of the war and asking them for any help they can provide.

Dear MIA,

We have grave, urgent news to report to you. The evil Galls have declared war upon our great nation and invaded our eastern border with 8 Gaillic Swordsman. We will do our best to defend our homeland, but a majority of our defenses are located in and around the jungle, protecting our southern border from D'Nuts. If we are to win this war, we will need your aid. We can defend our lands for a little while, but if they keep sending soldiers for a prolonged period of time.

Thus, we are requesting a formal alliance, and ask of you to sign it immediately. The Galls have 8 Gaillics in our lands right now, but there is a good chance they have more soldiers waiting in Gallies near our shores. We believe their defenses are weak in their homeland, so an attack by your armies should be able to weaken them. If you were to attack and take some of their land, their production capablilities will plummet and we will be saved. It would also help you directly, for KISS would be permeantly weakend and you would gain some valuable territory. Thus, we are hoping, as our faithful allies, you will help us in this time of crisis. If our two peoples work together, we can defeat the backstabbing, foolhardy Galls.

One last thing. Due to the war, my people badly need the knowledge of Chivalry at this time. If you could please send over the technology of Chivlary next turn, it would be much appreciated.

Please respond soon.

Bye for now. :)

there any chance of spotting an MIA'er on AIM or something?

i have fe3333au's AIM name...i'll check if he's on now.

he's not on now.

ok, so the only MIA person whose AIM i have isn't on now, so should i send the proposed message to MIA?

Here's what I sent a few hours a go:

Greetings to our only Friends across the sea:

There is very disturbing news from our east coast. A contingent of ten Gallic swordsmen have landed on the coast near Furbomb. I've not looked at the save but Strider posted a screenshot so it appears legit. Now that I think of it I think they demanded ivory last turn. I thought they were offering to trade us ivory so I ignored it. Oops! The Galls also sent us a formal declaration of war. Not only was the attack timed to coincide with some Idiot holy day (April Fool's Day) it also matches the ending of our peace treaty with the Iroqi. I am not sure if the Iroqi have also attacked or not. That doesn't matter so much since the Gallic force is quite enough to turn the Republic of Iron into mush. The bulk of our defenses are in the south. Our puny offensive capabilities are out barb hunting.

Anyway, even without looking at the save they will take Furbomb which is undefended. Then they have access to roads (and two movement points) to move up to other undefended cities. They have a good chance of taking Dancing Banana. I guess the Iroqi will take advantage of the situation and attack our southern holdings.

I see no hope for a military defense. Unless you can convince the Idiots to spare us I fear this will soon be a three sided game. It is a shame because I was looking forward to building the Great Library and expanding upon our cultural lead. It appears we live in a savage world where libraries and temples must give way to barracks and swordsmen.

Got your message in our team e-mail.

Please say that this news of a Gallic Invasion is a cruel April fools day joke!

I'm sure we will not be able to help you by getting the Galls to fall back - but we may be able to help you with gold to rush defenses.

Please, please, please tell me this a very bad joke!

donsig, 2 things:

1) please stop doing my job. i've been doing this job, sending messages to the Greeks, for several, several months now, and i think i've done a good job. i thought my message was just fine, and you have to send something yourself. please understand i'm not mad, just extremely frustrating.

2) why did you send such a negative message to MIA? the game is not hopeless, as we can rush soldiers and survive the initial attack losing only Furbomb, and maybe Horsebomb. you also said nothing about asking for chivalry, which MIA promised would gift to us if we needed it badly. you should've asked them. also, this doesn't mean we can't build the Great Library, it justs means we have to reanaylze our GL plan. this game is not over...

EDIT: i sent the message had written up, but slightly modified. (i didn't need to tell them KISS declared on us anymore, stuff like that i cut out). basically, the message says we can still win the war if the sign an alliance with us and we need chivalry now.

I understand your frustration greekguy. My own frustration led me to send the message. Time is very important here and I wanted the Greeks to be aware of this situation as soon as possible. While our situation may not be hopeless it is definately dire. We will need all the help we can get from the Greeks. By painting the picture very darkly I hope to squeeze every possible bit of assistance we can from them. If we lead them to believe we can handle this situation they may be less likely to help. If they think the Galls will steamroll over us unless they do something drastic then perhaps they will act.

I did not ask for chivalry because I know they will give it to us. We need mor than chivalry from them. We need them to attack the Galls or at the very least to exert whaterver diplomatic pressure they can to try to restrain the Galls.

So I ask your forgiveness greekguy. I am sorry.

I am looking at the save right now and trying to put together a post about our prospects for the next turn or two. This post will be in the Gallic War thread that Strider started.

EDIT: I sent the message to the Greeks at 3:30. That was before you're proposed message greekguy. I'm sorry I didn't make a post telling you about it but I had very little time at that point.

thank you for the apology donsig. like i said i wasn't mad, i was just frustrated. i still think over exagerrating our situation wasn't needed, simply saying MIA help will save us was suffficient IMO...but what's done is done, and MIA knows about the war now. at times like this we need to remember we're on the same team. :)

This then leads me to wonder did MIA know more about this planned attack than they were letting on.

Here's the latest from the Greeks concerning the war.

Hi greekguy

We are treating the situation you are in with urgency and seriousness, however it is also the time for pranks :yup:

Therefore to indicate that the picture is indeed as dire as you indicate , we request that you send us Engineering with ACCEPT and we will in turn send you Chivalry ... for if the last set of messages were not influenced by the date ... things have become 'interesting' (in a Chinese sense) for you and you will have need for knights.

Our team is discussing options to assist you, although the tyranny of distance makes thing difficult for immediate action of any kind.

Sincerely

Feaurius III
MIA Foreign Minister

I do not think we should send them engineering. If they want a sign of the seriousness of the situation they can look at their minimap and see thar Furbomb has disappeared. I don't think they'll be able to see Horsebomb gone.

I see no point in begging for chivalry. Knights will take twice as long or cost twice as much to rush as immortals and we are very short of both time and gold. I say we keep engineering to ourselves unless the Greeks declare war on the Galls. I'd like to point out that we have no formal agreement to build the Great Library and we are free to drop that project any time.

If the Greeks made a treaty with the Galls it will be difficult to get them to break it. Remember what the Greeks said along time ago about getting shafted by KISS in their tech trading deal? The Greeks held to their word even when they knew they we're being taken advantage of. We have to convince the Greeks how serious this situation is and get them to realize they have to give up thier honor for their own safety. If the Galls send all eight of those swordsmen to Dancing Banana then they will take it whether we are building our Great Library pre-build or not. They can then move north and sack Semtex. By then we might be able to make a stand in Dynopolis - if we drain our southern defenses. Right about then our little informal deal with the Iroqi will expire and I'll give you three guesses what they will do. We'd be toast, the Galls will have their Golden Age and maybe even a leader. With peace on their continent they'd turn on the Iroqi. If they manage to get an army then Iroq is theirs. In the mean time, the Galls will be using their increased production from their Golden Age to build their forces over there even while they research to gunpowder. If MIA can't see the danger, or see it and choose to live by their honor then I see no point in helping them. We have to get them to declare war on the Galls this turn.

We need to discuss this quick so greekguy can send a message out.

Edit: I just asked for a two day extension. We should include that in our message to the Greeks and ask them to back us up in our request.
