Ah k then thats a no then, still could we gift a city as part of a deal for them to declare war or something?
Ginger_Ale and I would need to discuss that option. I can't see an immediate problem with that, though, so a tentative yes.

well if it makes you feel any better we probably wouldnt use it but was just wondering :)
No problem. Feel free to ask any questions. PM would get to me faster, and I wouldn't be posting in a communication thread.

greekguy of the TNT

The thoughts and prayers of our citizens are with you as you wage this epic battle against the forces of evil arrayed against you. In this dark hour, we urge you to not let fear cloud your thinking. Now is the time to step back and view the situation calmly from a distance ... and allow a rational exploration of every avenue open before you.

Now, to address your letter, since you have determined that a straight swap of technology will not benefit your plight, we submit below the calculations we used to place a value on Engineering.

Gold For Science:
The Base value of Engineering = 1080 beakers
But as it is known to everyone but us, the cost is reduced by 462 beakers [154 x 3].
Thus making 618 beakers the 'true' worth of Engineering.

To avoid researching it ourselves, our economists are only willing to pay 25% of the beaker cost. (mostly due to multiplication effects of our libraries etc,)
This means that Engineering is worth 155 gold to us.

However, as yet another show of our good faith - we would be willing to pay you 25% of the Monopoly beaker value (in the spirit of what you agreed to paying us for tech in the now failed Great Library gambit)
This comes to 270 beakers – or - 270 gold.

But it doesn’t stop there!
As further good faith and as a show of our support, we will give you 3 options for how we'll pay you, up to 400 gold
Here are our proposed payment plans:
A) 270 gold, lump sum, right now.
B) 150 gold lump sum, then 40 gold per turn for 5 turns (total value = 350)
C) 200 gold lump sum, then 10 gold per turn for 20 turns (total value = 400)

Please understand our position, we have been researching at a deficit to gain the knowledge of Theology and therefore have a limited gold stockpile and spending this much gold will require painful cuts in our future research funding. These offers are more generous than some on our team believe we can afford to be. It is our faith in the future of the TNT/MIA Alliance of Science that has carried the day thus far to make this offer.

A Note on Trust:
We would also like to mention in passing that we are saddened by the continual lack of trust that you have shown toward us. After our extremely generous aid to you in the advancement to the Middle Ages, our continual good faith in providing intelligence about Dnuts and warning you that we suspected a KISS attack - you still withhold Engineering out of fear we will not be fair with you?

We understand your paranoia, but you must trust us at some point. Our interests are truly aligned, and fear and mistrust between us helps our Mutual Enemies more than it protects either of us.

International Affairs:
As to the period of peace with KISS, let's just say that by the time that our hands are untied, it will no longer matter for the situation will have resolved to an outcome. Many changes can occur in half a century of turns.

We strongly urge you to undertake all measures to ensure a long peace with Dnuts. If they'll give you 50 turns of peace for a luxury town, our bean counters believe that would be worth it. With KISS to your west, the Nutters could easily take the town anyway. If Nuts will do 30 turns of peace for Chivalry, let us know and we'll give it to you immediately to help secure peace that way (some adjustment to gold payments for Engineering and a non-trading clause will have to be considered).

Our analysts believe that KISS won't stop until you are dead – meaning you should probably do whatever you reasonably can to secure your Southern Front! (Maybe you can secure peace with less dramatic means? That is obviously ideal – but we just want to let you know what our internal analysis has revealed about the value of peace with the Nuts)

We have already talked with Dnuts and done as much as possible to sow fear of KISS and extol the benefits of peace with TNT. Apparently you still have confirmed peace with Nuts for 7 turns, this gives you ample time to open diplomatic channels.

It's only fair to warn you, if TNT is forced to fight on two fronts, by the time MIA could mobilize to attack the Nuts, we fear that TNT would have passed the point of salvation and entered the zone where extinction is assured.

Closing Notes:
If you let us know which gold option you prefer right away, we'll send the lump sum portion along with the next save.

Since you probably won't have time to respond before turn 118 is sent, we hope you can still send us Engineering (with accept) with turn 119 – our lack of that tech is becoming a sore spot for some members of MIA and is not doing our relationship any favours. Our Banks are all located on the sides of MIA rivers ;) and the lack of bridges for those rivers makes the bankers very stingy people … and no one wants an audit of this proposed deal.

If our past record of honour is not enough – let us again reiterate our promise to deal fairly and honestly with you on this issue.

Please don't take this as an insult, but our MIA War College would like to pass on a couple plans that we devised from looking down the barrel of our own "almost war" with KISS.
Spoiler War Tips :

War College Cash Rush Maxims
* Never cash-rush units until there is at least 1 shield in the bin (to a avoid costly rush penalty)
* As much as possible, avoid rushing units in towns without a barracks. It costs the same to rush a Veteran as it does to rush a regular!
* Avoid rushing an offence unit (like immortals) in a town where it will have to defend before it gets a chance to attack. Much better to rush a cheaper defensive unit and do more damage for your gold.
* Always looks for chances to "short-rush" a cheaper unit like an archer, and then switch production to a higher cost unit like an Immortal. This is an excellent way to efficiently use gold to shorten build times when instant availability isn't necessary.

Looking forward to hearing from you and to moving on to brighter days for both our peoples!

Sincerely

Feaurius III
MIA Foreign Minister

Think B gives us the best option really, gives us chance to renegotiate at the end of the 5 turns while also giving us quite a bit of gold in quite a short time. also send them engineering already! they have been more than fair so far in this alliance, just because they didnt help us militarily doesnt mean we shouldnt withold tech, they are the only civ without engineering.

What's wrong with sending them the tech when we get the gold. I really don't see the rush here. They have not been in a hurry to get engineering. They were yancy to get it when they thought they'd go to was with the Galls but now they have FIFTY turns where they don't have to worry about that.

Because its a 2 way deal and so far they have been fairly supportive of us, they have done everything they can while trying to protect their own nation so i see no problem with just giving them engineering!

we should just give them Engineering. we want them to stay friendly, and this will show a great amount of trust if we give them engineering before we get the gold.

on the gold gifting plans, i like Plan B the best. we would get a huge amount of gold in a short time span.

There is no reason to tick them off, they have done a lot, and although we may be the ones in trouble right now, it's good to make sure that we have at least some base layed for the future. They gave us 3 options for doing this, so there is no reason to avoid sending them the tech if they wanted it, they said that they would do the same for us.

No, they haven't done everything they can. They led us to believe they were still negotiating with the Galls. That was the excuse they used for not finalizing GLiGA, remember? They said they were unsure of the way things were going to go over there so they couldn't commit. In the mean time we're sitting here thinking there's no problem. Then all of a sudden they sign a 50 turn deal and don't even tell us. If we had know they were even contemplating such a long treaty we would have had a chance to re-think our defense especially in light of the Nuts offer to extend that treaty. Our past tech deals we beneficial to both us and the Greeks - there was nothing one sided there. Engineering is the last thing we have to sell - who knows when we'll get another tech. And we need the Greeks to attack the Galls. I say if the Greeks want to keep there honro then we should keep engineering.

well, by my count that is 3 in favor of giving engineering to MIA, with one against. if no one else posts saying we shouldn't give MIA engineering, i'll write up a reply offering to give them engneering this turn, in exchange for the Plan B payment next turn.

I appreciate what your saying Donsig but there not going to declare war on the Galls so we need to take what we can get.

here's my proposed reply. feedback is appreciated!

Dear MIA,

My people have discussed what you said about trust, and decided we have to trust you. You have been very trustworthy throughout this game, so we find no reason to not grant your request. We will provide you with Engineering this turn with Accept, then you will give us the gold when the save gets to you.

We have also chose which gold plan to take. My people believe Plan B would be most beneficial to us, as it supplies us with a large income very quickly. I would like to personally thank you for your kind generosity, as we battle against the evil that is KISS. :thanx:

Bye for now.

Latest from the Greeks:

Most Excellent greekguy,

We are very pleased to be able to help you in this dark hour. I speak for many people in Athens who wish we could do more. Rest assured, we are looking at options for what we can realistically do (and still keep our much prized honor in tact).

I am not speaking officially for my government – but you can have my assurances as Domestic Minister that your trust in MIA is well placed. We will not disappoint you with the gold.

May Meleet, the RNG, and all the gods of Iron smile on you in your war.

All the best,
General_W, Domestic Minister

I played turn 119 and sent engineering to the Greeks with accept. They are building the Colossus in Athens. Let's ask them if that's what they are really planning to build.

We have reached Athens. They can load that gold on our curragh. :)

Note: I'll post the results of our turn a little later. I need a stiff drink first. War is hell.

they might be trying to build the great library now that us and KISS are at war and also the nutters are trying to build the colossus :)

The Nutters are trying to build the Colossus? That doesn't (or didn't) show up on the F7 screen last turn. Do you know something we don't know BCL100? Anyway, greekguy we should reply to the Greeks after we play our next turn (and get that gold). In addition to asking them about the Colossus we should ask about the science alliance now that the Great Library Gambit is a no go.
