How did you make the snazzy document???

Are we going to be looking to make this alliance stronger in the future possibly through use of a military alliance.

i don't know. MIA provides the document via PM, then i "sign" it with MS Paint.

About our Alliance of Science leading to a MA later in the game: it's a good bet D'Nuts could go down to a combined Greek and Ironic strike in the way off future. :)

Since the document states the 60g is a collateral loan I went ahead and sent them the gold.

Dear TNT

We have a serious situation to address ... a barbarian camp has appeared near a group of workers and also near an undefended city. We must therefore stall the Construction swap for 4 (?) turns ... an uprising under these conditions will cause us no end of problems.

We shall write to inform you when we have dealt with this scenario and to give you the nod for the trade to resume ... on receipt of the note you will resend Construction and we in turn will send the remaining technologies.

Can I suggest that you sit back and turn research completely off and bathe in the riches that this will produce.

So, the bad news is we have to hold off on the construction trade. The good news is we can hold off on the construction trade. There's a barb camp near Fort Carbonperoxides as well. When I sent construction I did not accept the trade since I was stalling while looking for the barbs. I figured the Greeks would squak and I planned to play dumb and say *oops*. But now they have the same problem so all is good. :)

Let's take advantage of this opportunity and ask for another tech now. greekguy, let's tell them we need polytheism now so we can start work on monarchy. Let's send them a nice message but tell them it's not our fault they have barbarian troubles. Don't mention the Anasazi near Fort C. ;) Also, under the circumstances we should ask that they send us the techs first and then we'll send them construction. Let's use this request of theirs so we can get into the middle ages first.

Here's my proposed reply. Please give my feedback!

Dear MIA,

We are sorry to hear of your troubles with warlike barbarians. We wish you the best of luck when you combat them in the wilderness. :hammer:

Now about the trade deal that is now postponed. I understand the main swap involving Construction will have to wait, but we really need the secrets of Polytheism right now! My people want to start on a research of a form of government called Monarchy. There are already whispers of possible revolution. If you would be so kind as to gift us Poltheism this coming turn, we promise to uphold our bargain and go through with the main swap when your barbarian problem is no more.

Lastly, we think we have a way to help you with your barbarian problem. As you may know, when you enter a new age, a huge barbarian uprising will occur. If you were to trade us your AA techs to us the turn before we give you Construction, it would postpone your arrival at the Middle Ages for a turn. I believe this would give you an extra turn to subdue the barbarians before they rise up. I hope you would accept our generous help.

Goodbye for now.

i'm assuming you guys thought the message was good, so i'm going to send it to MIA now.

EDIT: message sent

I think they won't give us all the techs we need to get to the middle ages until they've cleared the barb camp. If we go to the middle ages, won't there be a massive uprising over there anyway? Why don't we just say that when the problem is over we'd like to be the first to reach the middle ages?

For some reason the barbs won't get angry enough to start an uprising until they see the advancement of two civilizations to a new age.

Hmmm.... didn't know that. Then by all means send that message off as is, greekguy! :goodjob:

Got this message from MIA. Let's figure out what to do, then i'll write up a response.

Dear Sir

You should also have read the next message sent a number of hours later where I informed you that the deal goes ahead as originally planned. We have designed a contingency plan for these savages which will use their predictibility against them.

The expected outcome will hopefully Meleet :worship; willing, will result in enough scalps to make a cloak of many colours, that is if we were as uncivilised as these beastmen

I also mentioned that in regards to the MA tech swap ... to ensure that we both do not lose any precious research time waiting, we should send the free technology to each other (with ACCEPT) as sson as we are granted them.

Always at your service

Drat. I wanted to get rid of the Anasazi camp before it got out of hand. I did not give away feudalism to the Greeks. Let's write back and suggest we trade free techs rather than gift them. The Greeks are in anarchy so they're not researching anyway. It won't hurt them to wait. If they want to gift instead of trade they can be the first to do the giving. :)

Wow, I never ever knew that about the barbarian uprising when you enter the Middle Ages. So is the idea that we'll swap the free technologies we get once we enter teh MA?

That's the idea - but if they get feudalism, too then we can't. In that event, one of us would research engineering and the other would research monotheism and we'd swap when both our researches were complete.

Here is my proposed reply. Please give me feedback!

Dear MIA,

We have now received our free technology and it is the secrets of Feudalism. We are now praying to the Great Meelet to grant your people either the art of Engineering or the wisdom of Monotheism. My people are ready to take your technology off your hands, so once you receive the freebie, if you get Enginnering or Monotheism, please gift it over to us. Then on our next turn, we will gift you Feudalism. Remember, this is all assuming you get a different freebie then us.

Now, time for some news of the Iroqi War. Although the battles between our peoples have been reduced to rare skirmishes, we have been doing some calculations on the results of our battles with the Iroqi. We have found that the Iroqi have not lost a single battle in which they were attacking. :hmm: My people have found this very suspicious and trying to figure out what is the cause of our horrible luck...

Goodbye for now.

i'm a little confused by some of your posts. should i ask them to gift us their freebie first, or should we gift them our freebie first? once i get a simple, straightfoward answer to this question, i'll send off the message. :)

Actually, I think at this point we should dispense with the gifting idea and just trade feudalism for monotheism. While waiting for the trade to complete we can both just turn off research and make some gold or - if they're hot and heavy to get their noses to the grindstone they can start working on engineering. Once we get monotheism we can start working on chivalry.

I also think we should leave out the *suspicious* part about the Iroqi *luck*. We can tell them about our bad luck but let's not let on about our insinuations. Remember, the Galls knew we were researching construction and we didn't tell them about that!
