How conservatives have evolved

Is Obama a (US) conservative?

I haven't been thrilled with Obama, and probably would prefer a more liberal candidate, but calling him a U.S. conservative? Like Dick Cheney, Rick Santorum, or Sarah Palin? Definitely not.

If Obama really is a Conservative then maybe all you liberals should find another candidate to vote for in 2012.

There's an inmate who won a 41% vote in the West Virginia Democratic primary earlier this month. But it looks unlikely he'll keep doing that well.

Obama is a pure socialist lololol.

In my county, we had a Republican win the District Clerk's race even though she was under indictment. She got convicted and we had to replace her. Along with the Republican judge that got convicted.

That's a total fallicy, most of the world is far to the right of what you think the rest of the world is... as has been pointed out here several times.
You don't get to define the center for the entire world like you just did because you want to discuss places that are more liberal than the US.
Since you said "any other definition than the American one", you are quite wrong.

Defined how? I'd say the median world view on private property, redisribution of income and social justice is well to the left of the median United States view.

West Virginia :crazyeye:, I live in Kentucky where we always joke that "It's bad here, but we can be happy that it's always better than West Virginia or Mississippi".

Anyway, I thought you lived in Brazil?

Obama is not a Conservative. The United States Of America however, is very Conservative. So how do you govern a very Conservative country if your not a Conservative yourself? With great caution.

Interestingly/predictably... the people voting he is conservative are the far left here... and the middle and the right say he isn't.
I wonder what it is like to be so far left that you consider Obama a conservative?

Africa... China... India... C. & S. America (mixed bag)... kind of more conservative and definitely more population than Europe/Rest of West...

See to make that definition work you need to only be talking about traditional cultural values, rather than anything that can be laid onto a left-right economic axis.

Which means you can't really do a comparison to Obama because many of your foreigner "cultural" conservatives will be well to the left of Obama on things like private property, redisribution of income and social justice, as I said above.

Talking about everything balled up together in one huge package of consideration...

Say what now

Jolly Roger is far left? What's it like to be so far right etc.

I could say the same about certain posters here who call Mitt Romney, and I mean the CURRENT Mitt Romney, a screaming liberal.
