Is it me, or is most of the US state flags ugly?

I love my state's flag, however I really think the bear could use a second head.

Good: Ohio, New Mexico, Hawaii, South Carolina

Bad: Carolina, Florida, Alaska

Ugly: All the rest of them.

Let's see about that:

SWEET LORD IT BURNS!!!!!!!!!!!!

That actually makes me slightly ill to look at. Like I'm coming down with a mild epilepsy or something...

Yeah, most state flags are terrible. Half of them are entirely nondescript, which is kinda against the whole point of a flag, and most of what's left are just aesthetic disaster areas. I mean, sure, the Old World may be largely grouped into clusters of countries all using the same handful of colours in a different order, but at least they're working of a timeless design.

It's just you. I happen to like the diversity and design of most of our flags. There is one that is particularly wonderful...

I'm actually going to agree when it comes to Missouri, because it's an example of a seal-bearing flag done properly. Most just seem lazy- "Quick, slap a logo on a blue sheet!"- but there's actually a bit of consideration as to the composition of the seal in relationship to the tricolour on that one, and it remains distinctive even if the detail of the seal can't be made out, so it gets a thumbs up from me. :goodjob:

Civitatis Novi Eboraci? C'mon, it's New Amsterdam, we all know it!

Castorum?
Wine for Beavers.
That's what the image says, and it's what our city was founded on.

Poor Justin, he's still underage!

Is there any particular reason you guys have a disembodies arm with a sabre above the seal?
