NES/IOT Merger Poll

Should IOT and NES be merged?

So you intend to to mix everything in one pot or create a subforum (or even two subforums? From what I read here NESers are not worthy to mingle with IOTers or stay in a subforum.

I think we can be in the same forum if at least those two major concessions are made.

After the merge, the new mods should go through the archives and carry out targeted thread deletion of throwaway and dead on arrival IoTs and NESes so that searching the new merged forum doesn't become a chore and a half.

Well, eventually, either IOTers will get sophisticated enough and will be the NES ubermencsh that we all know we can be, or NESers will degrade to the drooling monsters all IOTers are.

I guess the adoption of a veteran NESer and a veteran IOTer to mod-hood might ensure improved relations between the mods and the players. The promoted players could provide peace keeping and serves as guides of a new dream we can create together.

Speaking from the IOTers if I was given a vote on who be a junior mod I would nominate Thorvald for his senior services to IOT and his civil nature.

Question: would my Frontiersman status grand me a chance to vote in the other house too? ;)

A thousand times no. Even the DOA NESes are part of our history. I will never do that or endorse doing that under any circumstances.

It's not really the lack of a mod. I just think NESes will be surrounded by countless IOTs in a single forum and merely disappear...

I agree with EQ. Even the DOA NESes are important. Lots of ideas there...

No no and no. Thorvald may be one of the oldest community members, but he can also be extremely biased and inflammatory at times, especially concerning one or two members. If we were to appoint new moderators for the subforums, I feel like appointing Thorvald would be a mistake.

If you want to propose an IOT mod then you should pick somebody who has historically been a relatively neutral and calm member of the community.

Why does this remind me Le Pen or UKIP or Golden Dawn? Europe will flood Muslims who shall Islamicize Europe!

That's fine, it's not exactly a sticking point for me. I was just responding to Luckymoose's concern about old NES threads getting crowded out in the archives. But maybe there's a better solution? I'll support it if you have one.

I ensure you Erez: the works of Immaculate will never drown, nor would others NESes as long as the NESers continue to live on CFC (and Frontier; I promote dual citizenship of both forums). If anything I sense a mixing; results that will blur IOT and NES. It will be a wonderful painting.

I am sorry that I offended you with my suggestion. Would you like a less qualified figure?

But it will happen! You'll see! We urgently need euforumgenics
Also, isn't it a bit too soon to be talking outside of our chat about the IOT mod?

Me? :mischief:

An Archive? Could even have those tags in Off Topic forums.

Just to make certain, some NESers expect others to have a degree in creative writing before joining, some do not. Do not take the opinion of one NESer as the opinion of another.

Well, you calling me out on something you never participated in, while also fighting the merger because you want to remain pure, is a laughing matter. You can't ignore what the most active and productive content creators do because it doesn't fit your 2003 view of NESing. And you definitely can't keep IOTers down while doing so, considering you don't subscribe to the same NESing the rest of us do.

Now, I am likely one of the most actively helpful members in this community on creative writing in our games. I'll spend hours of my time critiquing, editing, and genuinely assisting anyone who actually cares enough to want to improve. You can holler, "Luckymoose is the devil," but the proof is in the pudding. If you want to improve, ask for help. Otherwise keep complaining about how my vision isn't appropriate while shouting me down from your nonexistent pedestal.

Lucky is willing to help, and very often he does. He's welcoming to new players who put in a good faith effort. He's just often extremely frustrated with people who don't listen to what he has to say, or respond to it. And when he voices that frustration he makes people angry at him. So it's a difficult situation.

I voted against the merge because it wasn't accompanied by appropriate planning or concessions. But, if we can collectively negotiate for those sorts of concessions to accompany a merge, including a space for PDMA leniency and mods from IOT and Frontier NES communities, I think that the vote for a merge will quickly move to near 100%.

I, for one, would change my vote to a yes.

Give our community the assurances it requires, and everyone can come out of this happy.

I think I can safely say that having these other discussions inline with the merger discussion is a non-starter. PDMA has site-wide implications and is not a NES/IOT issue, and therefore can not be conjoined to this issue. It will have to stand on it's own argument's merits.

Adding another moderator at this time is also likely a non-starter. EQ is a NESer and I had a very strong IOT background (and some NES) before becoming a moderator. You already have moderators that are familiar with the cultures and way things work in IOT and NES. Adding a moderator also has site-wide implications. Long story short, I wouldn't hold out too much hope of additional change on this front in the short term.

He's not helping towards improving the quagmire this discussion has turned into.

I never intended to, since this whole discussion is a group of seagulls squawking over a piece of fish that doesn't exist.

@Christos: Nice to see you know me, bro.
