New Civs [Suggestion/Request]

i can imagine trying to survive as the harappans would be a nightmare,

and probably quite fun.

I still say there should be a kushan invasion like the seljuks in the first centuary

everyone loves a good doomstack survival eh?

I love a good stack of doom, but the only time it's a challenge is when you were unaware of it, like the first time you played DoC and you haven't read up on your history to know that Seljuk's invade at 1100 A.D. Man, that really screwed me up the first time I played =P

Well Harappa could be an independent city that will get always razed by barbarians. Same should go with Hitties and Gordian.

What's the point?

There's a reason I took out Hattusha and Gordion.

Who guarantees if these cities are razed? What if they aren't? Is that supposed to be scripted.

Especially for Harappa it is likely ahistorical for anyone to even get into contact with them.

Alternate history should not be the regular course of the game.

Why ya gotta be like that man? Alternate history is rad. Something wildly alternative to the course of history is fun and interesting, like Babylon surviving into the Middle Ages and having to conquer them as Arabia, or w/e. It's part of why we all like "OMG WTH happened in RFC DOC" so much.

Unpredictability is fun. Scripting history to be alternate is just as boring as scripting it too much to be historical.

History can get pretty alternative you know. A couple independent city states surviving for a little while doesn't really make the game as interesting as having to deal with an India that is quickly becoming a world superpower (Even though that is pretty historically accurate).

Alright I can definitely see where you're coming from. Fair enough!

They should be likely razed. I dont see an issue here because whole game is based on "likeness". Rome should likely fall. So should Byzantium as well. Sometimes they do, sometimes not.

It’s pointless. Again. Try create an interesting UHV (Unique Historical Victory) for it. Try design a unique and creative UU, UP and UB. See? Can’t. I hope you get my point. Moreover, the only contact between IVC and other civilization that’s confirmed,, is with Bactrian Complex afaik. They did not establish contact with Zhou dynasty of China, the Mahajanapadas, or Achaemenid Empire. Making it contacting them is ahistorical.

That's true, but it still requires me to contrive circumstances to make the desired outcome the most likely. Which again, I think is pointless if the desired (i.e. historical) outcome is no interaction with other civs at all.

I think what is being proposed here are independent cities, not a full fledged civilization.

If the ruin is all that matters I don't think it would be a problem if we just placed ruins where Hattusa and Harappa used to live. Maybe special ruins that yield extra commerce so that civs are willing to keep them? I don't know.

What would be the point of adding ruins other than "flavour". What has made this mod so great is that it doesn't get bogged down by stuff like "flavour". I see no value in adding ruins to represent ancient civilizations.

Leoroth, I have played this mod for a long time. I have really enjoyed it and a lot of the updates have been fantastic. It would appear to me that DoC is getting to point where perhaps there is a lot less to add. For example in this thread, there really is a lot more space for anymore civilizations. I know there are some more mechanics you want to tweak, but would you say there is a long road ahead for this mod? Are we at the end of DoC history?

I've already been filling my to do list for the next version, both with my own ideas, suggestions from this forum and stuff I have moved there from the current one so it can finally be released.

The big points are an overhaul of the unit roster, especially naval units, and maybe the tech tree in the Industrial and modern era. Another thing I really want to do is rewriting the entire spawn mechanic, to make it more streamlined and less prone to bugs. Maybe I'll also change its design a bit in the process, to make spawns feel less forced upon you (at least when they're happening to the human player).

Dealing with invasions a couple of turns before the flip (and if successfully, preventing it), and a replacement of the unit desertion mechanic with something more sensible are a part of that.

Both of these will take some time. The first item because it has quite the impact on game balance and all that. The latter because it's quite the challenge considering the amount of code I have to change.

If you need voices for new quotes for technologies, I think I can hook you up. I have a friend in the sound recording and radio business who is helping me with the sound on my movie. As for the voice, I have a friend who would die for the opportunity.

If the sound quality he/she produce is as good or even better than the current Sid Meier's voices, I will support that. Iirc long time ago TD also offered to use his... (or his friends?) voice to fill some of the quotes in the game.
