pre-release info New First Look: Tecumseh

pre-release info
His agenda feels really unique and interesting.
It's the opposite of Barbarossa's agenda, and that's good. Tecumseh isn't annoyed when you become Suze, only if you kill off the indeps, which I never plan on doing anyway.

I have to wonder if they really mean Cities and not Settlements, especially since the first part says "Settlements Cities".
The video also erroneously labels the CIV as "diplomatic and militaristic". The official website ALSO says "rivers", not Navigable Rivers, which seems less punitive if you're including a malus.

Love the information and all, but you know... be consistent with it, or else it's not information at all.

I am going to assume religion in VII is going to be close to VI since the Shawnee unique civilian unit is a Missionary replacement.

Dunno, but I love those appaloosa horses.

Notice the colour on these Norman shields:

Dark blue + Yellow = Napoleon?
Not impossible, but Napoleon's personal favorite color was medium green (which is one reason why the Italian flag is basically a French tricolor with green instead of blue) and he dressed the entire French Imperial Army in medium blue and white*. 'Yellow' is a bit of an outlier as an associated color for him: even Pink was used more often as a braid/distinction color on French Imperial uniforms.

* - Okay, he did toy with the idea of French all-white uniforms, but mercifully dropped the idea when someone pointed out that the entire Austrian Army - one of his most persistent enemies - were also all dressed in white uniforms.

Point/Counterpoint, Napoleon is French and the French colours in this game are Blue and Yellow.

Dunno, but I love those appaloosa horses.
Fun Fact: the appaloosa is associated with the Nez Perce of the Pacific Northwest in North America, who bred them almost exclusively among the Naticve Americans. But the same coloring shows up in central Asian horses from 1000 years and more earlier and is depicted in Chinese illustrations of the horses they bought from central Asia. Apparently if you breed for speed and long-distance endurance, the appaloosa coloring is a by-product.

Then the colors simply confirm a connection between Normans and French, not with any particular Leader.

It is hard to remember that the Leaders are no longer specifically associated with Civilizations in game play: Napoleon can be a Roman or Mongolian Leader (Napoleonius, Khan Napol?) in any given game.

but they also infer Napoleon is that leader since we already know he gets to lead both.

and like Arioch said, colours are leader-specific (as they were in Civ6).

actually now that I think of it, the default colour schemes were different for each leader personq as well, so what we do not know is which of the two Napoleons is the Dark Blue and Yellow one :P

That just looks like the yellow-on-purple of Augustus.
Now that you mention it, the closer ones do look more purple. There is purple on the horse unit as well.

In the description on site it's just "settlements", so I assume video has an error, because "settlement cities" doesn't make any sense.

Actually it it works like on the site, it looks cool. All settlements get bonuses, but only cities have penalties.

Meh, I hate these civs designed as get +X bonus if you meet this map criteria, get -Y bonus if you don't. I just feels so artificial. But maybe that's just me.
Lol, I like terrainy civs. To each his own.

What makes the Shawnee a bit of a trick is that you don't start with this bonus. So, either you play Antiquity with the intent of going Shawnee later and settle on rivers as much as possible, or you have to do a little examination during the Age transition to decide whether it's worthwhile to accept the malus in a few of your cities for the Food boost in other settlements.

I actually like that it forces you to really consider your circumstances and decide whether it's in your best interest or not. It's not automatic.

I hope there will be a way to unlock the Shawnee with gameplay when you find yourself in a situation in which the bonus would be great.

This also adds to the case that the Shawnee come with the Mississippians as a package, so you always have that river-based foundation if you want it.

And logically, I think, if it be the case that we are getting a surprise three-civ throughline with the preorder of Tecumseh, I think a natural ending point is the Anishinaabe, since they are the most watery and in my opinion more connected to the Missippian/Shawnee legacy than the Lakota or Iroquois. Though a dark horse option in lieu of that could be the Cherokee/Muscogee. But man, the Anishinaabe just scream modern civ potential more than any other tribal council.
