New NESes, ideas, development, etc

Been a month since I last said anything.

Wanted to tell you this:
If someone wants to mod the X-COM NES I proposed a couple of months ago, you can download my recently finished ODS (OpenOffice Excel equivalent) document that shows the stats and the combat system in this link.

Also, had an idea about a possible NES, based on the webcomic Girl Genius. Basically, you get a family formed by Sparks (which are Large Ham Mad Scientists with a surprising magnetic personality) and they have to lead a small nation, much like it happens in EQ's BOTWAWKI, while dealing with the fact that your family is formed by guys and gals that may, at any moment, start to work on a mad project that can be anything from a super coffee machine to a super Tesla Coil (both of which happen in the comic, funnily enough) and require you, the omniscient leader of the nation, to expend money and resources on their inventions.

Mad scientist who creates, unintentionally world ending scenarios?

I Like.

If any of you has played EQ's BOTWAWKI (NES based on Fallout), then the cities would be displayed as in that game. And, like in BOTWAWKI, terrains would take time in being secured.

The story behind this would be placed around the start of this world's Industrial Revolution.

Characters' Areas of Interest would be initially determined by the players, and, as new characters appear and old characters have sparks of ideas, those Areas may evolve and change.

Sounds like SteamNES. :D It had a strong Girl Genius influence as well.

Also, hi again Milarqui. It's hard to stay away, isn't it? ;)

Girl Genius is amazing and a NES based on it would be awesome. I would be totally down for that.

I saw Steam NES. My plan is to make something a bit different, though. Think of it as a mix between BOTWAWKI, Girl Genius and a bit of Dwarf Fortress.

EDIT: Potential list of interests:
  • Chemistry
    • Organic Chem
    • Non-Organic Chem
  • Physics
    • Thermodynamics
    • Optics
    • Electricity
  • Mechanics
    • Clockwork
    • Steamwork
  • Medicine
    • Generalist Human
    • Specialist Human
    • Veterinary
  • Biology
    • Animal Kingdom
    • Plant Kingdom
    • Fungi Kingdom

It is a partial list, and perhaps as things evolve that list can improve. Also, imagine the possible mixes: Medicine+Mechanics=Steampunk Cyborgs...

I'm thinking about a steampunk space colonization game based on a game I found on the Paradox forums. In that game, a material called Brabantium is discovered in 1895. It has a unique property that enables it to reverse any gravitational pull to itself when heated, thus it flies straight up through the air until it reaches space, enabling travel to a Moon, which for the game had a breathable atmosphere and livable temperatures, but was still a barren wasteland. This won't be a complete ripoff of that game, it was about a Lunar Congress in charge of administering lunar colonies. My idea is for a more typical NES involving controlling the nations themselves, and focusing on all of the Solar System. To make it a bit easier for colonization, I'm going to make the planets into (kind of) what was thought of them at the time period, minus intelligent life forms. For example, Mars will be a mineral-rich desert with animals built to survive the harsh conditions, except for canals filled with water that cross through the desert, like they thought at the time.

Thoughts?

So kind of like NESers, right?

Milarqui, I quite like the idea of playing a mad mycologist. :p

It does sound a lot like Starlife's 'Tales from the Aether'. I'm debating whether or not playing a real-world steampunk NES focused on lunar and planetary colonization would work. I'm quite taken by the idea of playing the growing extraterrestrial colonies, rather than the nations of earth itself.

I've thought of the same idea a few times myself, although it always seems to boil down to something more akin to playing a retrieval team. I think it could definitely work as a character-based NES.

The SCP Foundation is staffed with psychopaths.

So kind of like NESers, right?
:3

We do play the part quite well.

Oh, I do take the idea very, very seriously. I was just tickled by the idea, as it hadn't really occurred to me before I read it in your post. :D

Hey, don't diss the mad mycologists. You never know when they may create a fungus that can grow in a day and produce spores that kill you and then rapidly decompose your corpse for their nourishment.

youre giving me nightmares
