New NESes, ideas, development, etc

I had an idea a while back about doing an A Song of Ice and Fire (Game of Thrones) NES would anyone be interested in playing it?

I may be interested, if I find the time to NES.

Have you seen this? The Noble House rules are very gameable. I had the notion of running a NES using the rules myself, if I could find a way to detach some of the setting elements for my own.

Hey, in about twelve hours, MESNES III is gonna get its Update 0. Ever wanted to explore the Multiverse in a starship far ricketier than is really necessary? Ever wanted to blow up an entire small country? Ever wanted to fight with your fellow NESers, both interpretations valid? Sign up now!

Something new from Milarqui's Ideas Factory!

Some time ago (Well, OK, it was at least 10-12 years ago, in the times where Playstation 1 was smashing every other gaming system aside) I played a game called Front Mission 3, which was a mix of strategy and role-playing game in which characters mounted on giant mechas and fought against a conspiracy. The mechas could be modified to be given better weaponry, armor and walking systems.

Would it be possible for someone to create something similar? Each player would have one mecha, and would advance along a map like those in Advance Wars or Civilization. The mecha would suffer "injuries", and you could repair it and buy improvements at some points, or at the end of the battle, while the pilots themselves would gain experience (as an alternative, there is the Afterworld scenario for Civilization IV: Beyond the Sword).

It could be an interesting idea, and simple to implement.

Anybody up to it? If it weren't for Dawn of Ages, I myself would do it...

My idea was more of putting the people in a grid and have them move around, as it happens in Afterworld.

Besides, since I live in a different time zone from most of the people around here, it would be difficult for me to mod or join a game that requires the use of the chatroom.

Ideas for that: one mecha would have just 6 parts, each with its own health: Head (from which the mecha is controlled), Torso (the main part of the mecha), L/R Arm (where the weapons are held) and L/R Leg (for walking).

Maybe it would be possible to make it as one of the old Roll to Dodge games...

Ideas about the aforementioned NES/Action Chatroom Mecha game (even though I would not be able to play such)

Initial Parts
Legs:
- Normal: 50 HP, 3 hexes/turn, can save a drop of 2, stable
- Wheels: 50 HP, 4 hexes/turn, can save a drop of 1, stable
- Hover: 25 HP, 5 hexes/turn, can save a drop of 4, if it breaks the rest of your robot will also suffer damage
Torso:
- Heavy: 125 HP, -1 hex/turn
- Normal: 100 HP
- Light: 75 HP, +1 hex/turn
Backpack:
- Large: 5 items, -1 hex/turn
- Medium: 4 items
- Small: 3 items, +1 hex/turn
Arms (25 HP) (can have 2)
- Machine Gun: Medium distance, Middle damage, multishot
- Melee Weapon: Short distance, Middle damage, oneshot
- Missile Launcher: Long distance, High damage, oneshot
- Rifle: Long distance, Medium damage, oneshot
- Shotgun: Medium distance, Middle damage, multishot

Skills:
Machine Gun I,II,III,IV... (Extra damage w/ Machine Gun)
Melee I,II,III,IV... (Extra damage w/ Melee Weapon)
Missile Launcher I,II,III,IV... (Extra damage w/ Missile Launcher)
Rifle I,II,III,IV... (Extra damage w/ Rifle)
Shotgun I,II,III,IV... (Extra damage w/ Shotgun)

Engineer I,II,III,IV... (Can install new weapons)
Explorer I,II,III,IV... (Can see further)
Mechanic I,II,III,IV... (Can repair wanzers)
Sniper I,II,III,IV... (Can shoot with higher precision)

Initiative I,II,III,IV... (Higher chance of hitting first)
Tackle I,II,III,IV... (Extra damage when using Melee Weapons)

Also: the players end up in an hostile world, trying to survive and find something out (excuse plot, basically), but due to an accident they end up divided in groups of 2 and 3 players. Enemies are of the organic and metallic kind, both, and while the former are somewhat weak, the latter are not. Both can also be used for items to improve your mechas (mostly the latter, since they are robots and such, although the former can also have metal that Mechanics can use to repair the mechas).

Hexagonal map, with different heights to make sure that not everybody tries to get the wheels. Wouldn't have accidents like forests or so, since we would be dealing with a post-apocalyptic world, but there might be walls.

The idea would be to meet together and reach a point in the map, where players would have to work together to reach their objective. Also, experience would be gained with each attack, and as it accumulated, it would be used to buy new abilities.

This might probably go to the Forum Games, but I'd love to have it here.

Thoughts?

I thought that went bankrupt a while back and got sold for scrap.

Well, I think it's safe to say that the Core reboot flopped, so I'm back with more ideas.

Or questions. I guess those should probably come first.

If one were to play an NES that had a map, would the quality of the map be important to players?
Because I am utterly horrible at maps. Or drawing. Or anything that even remotely resembles art (music not included).

For me, map quality is essential.

I have almost completed a few maps for you. To the point where you only had to copypaste a mountain icon all over the place, which I had to delete and redo at least 3 times following your instructions...

Not to mention that one that got ruined because HJ thinned all of the borders and that Caribbean one which I did until you stopped giving me reference maps to use.

I forgot about the Caribbean one, to be fair.

And... uh... let's forget about the IE map... HJ and I mucked that up fairly badly...

I got From Dust this weekend, and thought the concept would be fairly interesting as an NES.

For anyone who hasn't played, you play as "the breath," basically a magical force that moves sand/water/lava around to shape the world.

I could see taking the whole concept of tribal members shaping the world through these three elements, though I'm not sure if people might get bored with what would basically become an explore/build sandbox type thing.

On a more realistic note, possibly scale it up into a tribe vs. tribe game, where each tribe controls it's own "breath," and can use it to shape the world to their advantage (and not necessarily anyone else's).

From Dust is a very interesting game and can provide lots of entertainment. Not sure how it could be played through NES though.

Idly considering running Axis and Allies on the forum (and on my kitchen table, though in the interests of screenshots I'd probably have TripleA roll the dice for me). This would not be until semester's end and substantial progress into the second mission of MESNES III, but would there be interested parties? We'd use the Spring 1942 edition rules.

If there's a different forum this would go in, let me know, but I think the DipNES example serves as precedent for hosting it here.

My classmates just started a game of Axis and Allies last night.

Psychology class gets a bit... interesting when a group starts arguing about how they'll take out Russia during a lecture.

I have ALWAYS wanted to try Axis and Allies. Count me in.
