New NESes, ideas, development, etc

A few notes:

1) I've seen the Gods thing before. However, what I'm liking about this one is the "pantheon" aspect, be it traditional or "God-and-angels". Further, the ability to directly wage divine war (rather than to have the people as the only means of conflict with other gods) is intriguing and exciting.

2) Given the last effort in this area, I'd like if we could move fairly speedily through the pre-civilized and proto-civilized stages, until we had actual empires to work with.

3) Having a 3-to-1 bonus for benevolence seems a bit excessive. I'd aim for closer to 2-to-1, maybe 5-to-2 or even 7-to-3, but then the numbers start getting out of hand. Out of curiosity, do you actually mean "per person", or some slight abstraction or simplification thereof?

4) Not really a fan of "Grek". Petty and insignificant, I know, but... thought I'd bring it up.

@Terrance888: I confess I'm really quite inexperienced with GoogleDocs, and don't immediately see how they'd be either applicable or useful. Could you elaborate?

@Deusselkerr: That sounds really cool! I would totally play that. :)

Atheism seems unlikely to begin in a world so rampant of demons and obvious supernatural activities.

Misotheism on the other hand...

Misotheism? Is that the cult of Mise? ;)

Misotheism? Is that the cult of Mise? ;)

No, it's a cult that worships miso soups.

It's like lobstertheism, except with less butter and more tofu.

That makes sense.

Google docs are the ultimate form of collaboration I know. You can enabl vision for specific co-editors of a document, share files, entire databases, or individual pages. You get most of the functionality of Microsoft word in the cloud. Everything auto updates. You can as multiple pages as status updates or spy reports.

Spreadsheets pages power points and more are supported.

1. No Grek? away. How about Morea? Or even Ellada? All Greek land names.

2. Misotheism, good idea.

3. As for getting to the empire stage, I agree; I think there will be five epochs, being prehistoric, classical, medieval, renaissance, and industrial. The trigger for each (if indeed there will be triggers) would be, say, for prehistoric the founding of your pantheon, for classical the addition of another city to your chosen people as well as the invention of the wheel and bronze, etc.; I think misotheism can be a threat present at any given time, so it will not be any one period's stigma (though it will become more likely as time goes on). Perhaps you can earn "hate points" for your actions, which do fade over time (less and less as time goes on, records improve, etc.- so if you make your people have only oral tradition, hate points fade more, but obviously you have the problems thst come with the inability to write). When hate points come to a head, misotheism develops, and grows stronger. Maybe the Satan thing can come into play too. Time will lengthen and shorten as is pertinent to the game- if nothing important happens for a turn or two, maybe I will jump forward 100 to 1000 years, especially In the early game.

As for balance, I agree; I have done no math yet, but I think 3-2 or 4-3 is more fair.

For the whole supernatural units thing, I think I will give you a bit more control over their creation, so your RP gives special bonuses, but then there will be categories like general strength, resistance to magic/faith attacks, intelligence, faith power, etc. (I will figure it all out) that you can invest in with faith.

I will think on all this, but I will be on vacation the next 3 days so I will be back Sunday to continue planning.

If you want to try for a less Greek (read: overtly familiar) name, while still referencing a more classic pantheon, what about Aaru?

All of these ideas sound like they could be fun- there have been a history of colonization NESes and God NESes before, so I do recommend coming onto #nes to talk to people who have run projects like them before, to get some advice before you start up. As for Global Thermonuclear War... I can't actually think of a NES that has done that before. It seems like more of a pure wargame than an NES though.

Yeah, it's more of a wargame, but it was an idea. Just something with hour-long turns, rather than month- or year-long turns.

Maybe I should find someone who plays wargames rather then inflicting it on all y'all. But until then, I figure it's an idea I'll toy with.

Try IOTs ;)

Oh, yes, CivO's. That was one hell of a game.

OH GOD CITYIOT

Those poor poor people.

Core was so much better...
