New NESes, ideas, development, etc

That's because they weren't remotely the same game. One was organizational, politics-based, and loosely tied. The other was individual, story and survival/societal based, and took itself rather seriously.

While we're at it, I'm toying with some ideas in both forums, which may or may not be interrelated. Since it doesn't seem to be gaining much traction in IOT, I might fire off an expanded idea over here - how would people feel about playing... well, two games. One would be a more traditional "war" game, where players operated as factions within a modern-ish civil war/revolution/etc. The other would be a story-driven (in the sense of Core) game, where players took on characters from that world. The events in one would carry over into the other, and vice versa.

A bit of a spoiler from something I've been plotting for a sort of two-tier game. At the moment, the wargame part of it is intended for IOT, with the more character-based component residing in NES, but if IOT shows a lack of interest, I might just ship both parts off this way.

Spoiler :
Just a sneak peak of what's to come. The game will only take place in Indonesia, during a modern-setting civil war/revolution. In IOT, players will take charge of varying factions, and attempt to pursue their goals. The black squares on the map below are cities - don't panic about the lack of names and crowding in western Java, that will be fixed before we begin.

Now, those of you who actually read that may have noticed that I said "in IOT." In addition to the organization-level game running in IOT, I intend to run an individual-level (in the vein of Core) over in NES. One game will affect the other, and vice versa. I figure it makes for an interesting dynamic.

That sounds like a really cool mechanic! Could I possibly play as an Australian intervention military force?

i've got my character idea. her name is going to be: Abu Al Hassani Muhammad Al Qaida Bin Laden Bin Jihadi. and she's going to be a liberal feminist terrorist okay?

No, as I intend to keep foreign interactions as NPCs.

Okay. Can I at least have a character that is an Australian Peacekeeper (if they ever get involved)?

so how's about my character mang?

how's mine not rational?

Your location says everything.

"People who annoy you: N_GGERS".

I don't speak Spanish.

WTH does that have to do with my Shout Out to South Park?

I misspoke. I don't speak the language of the conquers, Castilian.

I am JoanK and I approve of this trolling.

I don't speak Stupid like you, but at least I try to speak English, which is a common language.

Now, I am still waiting to know what your comments have to do with my joke.

I have not the slightest idea what your talking about.

I'm not going to be around for a few weeks, so I can't do that other idea quite yet, but who would be interested in doing a very short story-based NES?

By very short, I mean "would end next Monday afternoon." Obviously, this kind of forgoes a formal update system, so it would work as more or less a back-and-forth response system.

Setting would probably be a revolution or rioting of some sort. Even if not exactly that, it would be something that lends itself to a more fast-paced nature.

If you're interested, please post - for obvious reasons, this would need to begin soon.

Sure sounds like a rational setting.

I know I come up with an idea about once a week, and both my NESes have burned out before the seventh update generally due to my laziness, but I came up with a good idea which I think I might be able to do without burning out.

I've kind of always really wanted to run a politics-based NES, where players negotiate, wheel and deal, and bargain with eachother to get their agendas completed. As a result, I made RomeNES. Unfortunately I burned out of RomeNES after three updates because, and this is going to sound strange, I gave players too much choice. They could do literally anything, and because they could do literally anything I burned out trying to keep track.

As such, I gave some thought to some way I could run a Politics NES without burning out. I came up with an idea - I already have an excellent engine to run it, its called Victoria: An Empire Under the Sun.

So my idea is, a politics NES where the 'engine', for want of a better word, is a video game like Victoria. In a system tried and tested in several AARs (over on Paradox), Players would take the role of the upper house, and propose laws and bills to be voted on by other players. I'd try to make the 'constitution' kind of labyrinthine and full of loopholes, specifically to make people abuse them (specifically because I think abuse of loopholes is a must for any politics game), so a lot of the fun that players would experience would be the continual diplomacy and negotiation needed to get bills for their party passed, as well as the exploitation of loopholes to get things done when negotiation proves impossible. :p

I might also expand this so that a player could also be elected to President of the state or something similar, with some kind of cabinet, but I'm not sure if that would get too complex or not. I might have to beta-test it somehow. Either way, players would have no actual representation in the game world, though if we end up with military units under player command I'd have to come up with some system for military coups and things.

Either way, what do you guys think? System would have to be Victoria 1, because I'm cheap and my computer is awful so I can't run much better, and most likely vanilla Vicky because VIP has too many events that would pause the game for ages frequently.

Thoughts?

So, new ideas.

- Hex map. Instead of having individual units moving separately, players have armies. One army has different stats (Melée, Distance, Maneuver, Protection, Speed). Armies have maintenance costs both for existing and for their size (determined by the stats). Special units build cities in determined hexes. Infrastructure (mines, roads, farms...) is built with cash. Cities have buildings. Technologies are bought with money, although extra can be earned thanks to buildings.
- Something based on Supreme Commander, with only Biomass and Energy as resources. The players would have different specialities chosen at the beginning, and slowly become more unique with time.

Opinions?

EDIT: Another idea: one player becomes the Evil Overlord and designs a dungeon, with others then being the heroes that try to assault it. The Overlord becomes richer as more heroes die, and when one of the heroes manages to kill the Overlord, he/she becomes the new Overlord.
