New NESes, ideas, development, etc

Not to be off-topic, but there was briefly some discussion of a moving forward of the Revolution #2 NES to 1836 by Justo. Does anyone know what happened to that project?

Also, imagine this possibility:
In the middle of the 19th century, magic is discovered to not only exist, but also to be workable much like technology. Things go more or less OK, with magic being part of investigations by scientists, but when the Great War starts in 1914, things go very ugly very soon, as magic starts to get used against civilian objectives, and society collapses completely, with the idea of nations being blasted away due to government structure everywhere going to hell.

Fast forward 30 years, and humanity, while being around 1-2 billion people, has foregone the ideas that caused the Great War and live in anarchy (doesn't mean without order), with many farms peppering all of the world, some pieces of technology and magic still workable in distinct places... until a charismatic person (the player's first avatar) comes and manages to convince a couple of farms to band together and start the conquest of the world.

You would be able to re-discover technologies and/or use magic to make them as well. For example, imagine steamships that don't need coal, just a Mage of Fire to work on them; foundries that use Mages of Fire to develop great alloys for armors; Mages of Life working at farms and making plants bloom within days; flying fortresses held in air by Air magic... and everything would only be held back by your imagination and your economy.

This is such a good idea. All it needs is a hawt map.

Don't forget to coordinate major Ley Lines with climate! An Equatorial Fire Line? Wet water lines streaking over the Rainforests prevent burning? Air lines blow supermassive hurricanes?

Also, I hope we also get 'minor' ley lines, along with the general prevailent magic.

I'm not sure if that could actually work out. After all, if a ley line is always beset by natural catastrophes, it sort of beats the purpose of actually having those ley lines.

However, there are things that ley lines could do. The mana that can be extracted from them (I don't know how many kinds of mana could be used, but I guess that Fire, Water, Earth, Air, Life and Death could do well as basis, with everything else being derived from these) would depend of where the mana extractors are (say, besides a water body it would be Water, a cemetery Death, a nursery or a forest Life, a windy place Air, a mountain Earth and a desert or very hot place Fire). The kind of mana one would have would permit certain training, as well as developing funny spells. For example, Air and Water could create some kind of ice storm, Fire and Air create lightnings, Fire and Earth could produce a volcano... that kind of things.

They won't cause catastrophes, just look more natural to find an Equatorial Fire Leyline outlining the deserts or a Ice line marking through Siberia/Canada? Natural magic? (are they possible?)

I say extract it from human souls! I mean there are plenty of them and they are a renewable resource!

I claim no rights for this very awesome map. Original can be found at fantasymapmaker.com

Very short overview: World with no Adults. Most of the world got EMP'd, so not mnay computers or super cars around, some "tech thingies" were probably shielded or can be fixed into working order. No firearms either, sole producer of firearms (Arms and Co) made certain that every firearm in the world got fried before virus killed them all.

You are a kid. You want a future. You join up with other kids and beat others. Go create a tribe of chaos or bring peace and order back into this world. Or go nuts and create a sect. Whatever. World is now just a big playground with broken toys.

Longer overview:

Adults are gone. Anyone above age of 18 has gone. Virus ate them. Completely. Governments fell. Corporisations are gone. But children survived. Its just 5 days since virus entered the city of Emerisia. Most of the high-tech cars and computers have gone. No firearms either. Governments strategically covered entire world with EMP missiles. Nothing works. There is no place on Earth where the virus did not reach. All adults were turned into dust. You are a new leader of new generation. You know that you need to survive. To survive, you need to create a tribe - a band of friends, allies or just individuals with common goals. You are a leader of NEW GENERATION.

Keep the dream alive!

This is Inspired from Australian/New-Zealand youth serie Called "The Tribe", that ran from '99 to '03.

I loved this show when I was ~10. Had nothing better to do in the hospital. I think it had a great universe and semi-bloodless (little to no deaths) athmosphere was fun too.

The world
This is my fictional world. Tribeworld had quite a bit more "normal" world, but I find this history would explain why there were little to no deaths in the series and I don't want you guys to be able to kill children. You know, we are all adults with decent and good mind. We would not kill children or would we?

World has gone all wrong.

In 1300 AD there gigantic meteor crashed Earth and destroyed both North and South America continents. Those continents sunk never to be found again. Surprisingly dust covered skies of Earth only for 300 years but world did not end. Other than -of course -for indians, but who cared about them anyways. During that time, Templar order came to power all over Europe. Templars formed several treaties and made sure that no one would or could produce weapons without their premission.

Over the next centuries Templar order spread across the world. Despite of Templar order controlling virtually all of the food, water, weapon and education, Super states were formed. Super states like Slavic Union. European Union. Great China. Small China. Australia and Colonies and African Union. These unions could not fight as they had no weapons other than politics and angry mobs with improvised weaponry.

Templars had their fingers everywhere. Whoever dared to rise a revolt or disagree with their views, was brutally killed by few chosen arms-bearing elite warriors. Several institutions were put into charge of controlling different aspects of life. For an example Food and Co controlled food distribution. Guns and Co weapons. Nations and Co nation relations and Future and Co research.

In the year of 1999, world had reached same level of technology that we have. Then The Virus appeared. How it appeared or where it started, is unknown. It spread around the world within less than 30 days. Symptoms were simple - all above age of 18 aged super fast and then died. Their bodies were turned into dust within hours after their death. However this virus did not effect children. And Super states tried to do their best to create armies and future super state soldiers, out of hildren but they ran out of time. No one had expected that A Super State might require Children-Soldiers within next 30 days.

Templars, thankfully, had an idea how to these wanna-be nations from destroying the world. They ordered all weapons in the world to be destroyed. It was simple task, as all weapons had a built-in self-destruct mechanism, that could not be removed. They then EMPd entire world, destroying most of working high-tech equipment.

Now its anarchy on the streets. Children have understood that there are no laws anymore nor even adults to enforce laws. They now make their own laws. And city streets are not safe. Thanks to Templars, there are no AK-47s or Tanks anymore. So probably no battles-to-death among children. Yet. Sadly, there are no teachers either and grammatical knowledge is not the best know-how, that would help children to survive in this new lawless world.

3 Major resources shared into sub categories:

I. Population

- Capos - Every Action requires at least one Capo. Without Capos you can not organize your population to do even basic stuff, like feeding themselves. If capo falls, dies or gets captured/converted, whatever tasks they were assigned to do will fail and their groups will either return to you or fall apart. Capos generally have great charismatic skills. It'd be best to have at least 1 capo per 5-6 members. Having not enough capos means that your tribe members are going to fall apart.

- Normal - civilians with no special skills. Theres low chance that normals pick up skills of specialists, when accompanying them, but its rare. You're better of teaching stuff to them via books or just leaving them to do simple things and hope they won't fail at that.

- Scouts - are the ones who know how to sneak and where to find objects like food and electronics or, perhaps, even info. Unless you got some deals, farms or fishermen out, you may need to scavenge food and scouts are the ones capable of getting food.

- Brutes - Every tribe requires some muscle. Be it for defending, attacking, looting, patrolling, keeping peace or creating chaos. Brutes have very low loyalty, so if their leading Capo is lost, they probably won't return either.

- Geeks - Geeks think. Geeks can repair anything. Geeks make plans. Geeks make broken electronics work again. But Geeks are planners, not builders or fighters. Geeks need techies to "be moral support" in field work.

- Techies - Techies fix things. Techies (re)build stuff like generators or noticeboards ... provided there are plans provided by Geeks. Without plans, Techies can still do simple things, like plow fields or fix a broken door know, but anything more high-tech requires a geek.

II. Resources

Food
Every member of your tribe eats 1 food per 3 days. Brutes eat an additional 0.5 food. Food can be scavenged for several years to come, but supplies in the city will eventually run out or go bad.

Water
Fresh water is a complex thing to produce. A techie could produce filtering system ( boiling and gathering steam) but more complex (and less time/energy consuming) methods require geeks to help techies out. Drinking water from river(s) or streets is not a good idea. Bottled water resources in city will eventually run out or go bad but there should still be some.

Tech parts
Tech parts are required to produce/fix/create/repair something. Tech parts represent anything that can be restored into working order. You can make anything out of them - computers, windmills, whatever. Assuming you have enough and your geek(s) agree with you.

Tradeable goods
You can turn tech parts into goods and trade them. You can't revert tradeable goods to Tech parts tho. Sometimes your geeks are required to use tradable goods to produce something - say they need a microscheme from a toy car or something. Children will still pay highly for toys, playstations, jewelry and whatever else is worth trading.

Energy
Batteries, Car batteries, petrol, gas, oil, even firewood. Energy is limited in this world. Now, that most of the high-tech equipment is gone, having working lighting system, playable playstation or some gas for your 'cycle, grants you many options. Energy is essential to keep moral high and will get many more recruits. It can also be traded for resources, safety or used to power cars, machines or whatever.

Weapons/Equipment/Projects
Duh'.

III Status

No one knows who you are when you have no status. Not being anyone means you are not accepted into the "big boys" playground. That could be a problem. Cuz big guys always have fun.

Sector status - are you respect in some sectors? Disrespected? Does your tribe control some sector ?

City Status - What does that punk over there think about you and your tribe. What about that gal over there?

Moral - How does your tribe feel about world. Gaining new recruits lowers moral, as does losing old members and capos. Gaining new Capos, having more than enough food, defeating an enemy or getting some lighting back up would be great boost to morale. Low moral means your tribe may disband or fall apart. Varies from 0 to 100.

Options?

I remember that TV show :)

OK, about the economics and all of that, this is an idea I had:
- Use a three or four tier system for earning money. Say, Hamlet<Village<City, with each level giving more money.
- Mana collection depends on the size of the collector (3 sizes) and the place where it is placed (the more ley lines converging on it, the better, and the nature surrounding the place determines what kind of mana is collected).
- Maybe special factories might be built out of cities for extra money.
- Unique units will cost progressively more money. The more UUs you have, the more expensive they will be to build. If you develop a new unit to replace an older one, you will have to either upgrade all of the older units you have or sell them.
- There are three kinds of units: Land, Sea and Air. Each kind has three subcategories: Techkind (only technology), Magickind (only magic) and Magitek (mixing both). Magitek will cost more.

Would this be nation building or taking over a already existing nation and making it an empire?
(Making a new culture from apocalpse, or is the land semi-healed and just making it great?)

Ley line map! Ley line map!

For Technikind I hope you mean semi-advanced technology, just just catapults and the like. (Actually, force multiplyers can greatly increase magic power: a lever, a pivot, and a magical hand can move the world!)

Nation building. You can start from a pre-existing culture (such as African or English, for example) or you can make your own culture, born from the ashes of the Great War.

Ley line map will take lots of time, still.

Techkind would be technology up to RL WWI. If you can demonstrate that you could find something sligthly more advanced, that is good.

@Dreadnought: That's so cool!

I am pleased to present the official video for the upcoming NES, The DOOM Project.

The Corporate contract, armory information, and official thread will be opened by Monday at the latest.

Enjoy!

THE OFFICIAL DOOM PROJECT TRAILER:

Link to video.

Corporate Briefing (in case some of the speech was not coherent.)
Spoiler :
Greetings operatives. This is Corporate speaking. We have received a new contract requiring the utmost of haste and the most talented of operatives. The customer has requested anonymity in this matter, so we cannot disclose specific details pertaining to the mission yet. However, we have arranged your briefing to be given in another location closer to the mission zone. Should you choose to accept, you will board Flight 1405 out of Dresden International Airport tonight at 2312 hours. That flight will take you to Buenos Aires, Argentina, where an Organization operative will be awaiting your arrival.

At 1200 hours the following day, the Corporate operative will be eating lunch outside the Florencio Cafe, located at 2363 Fransisco de Vittoria. He will be eating a small cake and have a coffee to his right. He will be wearing a white, button up shirt, with the top button undone, and a pair of jeans. He will be rocking backwards in his chair as he eats. Opposite him will be a fedora. On the inside of that fedora is the location of the mission briefing. Your weapons and equipment will be sent to the sight of the briefing. Expect to leave Buenos Aires soon after the briefing. The customer states that the mission will take place in a largely urban setting, so rural equipment will not be necessary.

Please fill out the designated paperwork and submit all armory notifications as soon as possible. Best of luck. Remember, you represent the Dresden Organization of Operative Mercenaries on this mission. Finish the mission efficiently and effectively. Corporate out.

I think the spelling error was necessary for Microsoft Sam's voice crap, and he may have just copy pasted to the thread. ANYWAY
Awesome video, It'll give me something to do Monday, I guess.
