None Shall Pass [Game Thread - Concluded]

Damn that was sooooo close. Great game everybody, and a huge thank you to Zack for hosting it. Surprised I almost was able to pull it out, despite me hitting every major roadblock conceivable between getting injured by Double A for two nights and trying to flip the ONE SW player that was not a legal option. Damn you, Frozen in Ice.

The best part was I only had a 50% chance to injure my killer.

After I protected Spaceman, my protection power was upgraded to block any night action against someone. I used it on Visor for most of the game.

Hey, Zack, did jht have any 'betray Sauron and get the Ring' VC/personal goal?

Merry has a hard guy to play as there were no abilities only a mason with Bsmith, I was also concentrating on my demon team in the NotW, so got off to slow start. Everyone except me seemed to have some ability and was important in their own way, once the cliques formed I felt I was left out in the cold, could gain very little info apart from the public thread, frustrating at times, especially when the promised incontrovertible action from Bsmith never materialized. Then I found our QT has been comprised so I never felt I could trust my mason pal till he died and flipped town, I spent the rest of the game waiting to die. It was my first mafia game and I think I prefer the NotW format.

Yeah, sorry about that. I really wanted to bring you over, but since you didn’t have an ability it was hard to put you high on the list. We were working towards getting those that did have useful abilities unconvertible first. Also, since this was a cult game I knew that you were to be trusted at the beginning of the game, but then all bets were off. Both of these things contributed to having to leave you in the dark for too long.

No. However, if Gollum had scanned the Ring on you, his VCs would have changed to escaping the game with the Ring (he would have gained more abilities to help with this).

Didn't he scan me with the Ring just as I converted him? I did anticipate that whe would try to steal from me so I flipped him.

Well, I did get *one* thing right this game.

Its over. What a great game.

Well played LOTR town, you got the victory in the end! I was rooting for you.

By the way, best quicktopic in the game was hands down me and Sprigs.

Read it, you will enjoy it.

:yup:

Edges of Paranoia - with a straight up, I don't trust you at the beginning. Though the speed at which you gathered information...

Any feedback for the sequel? Especially about:

- writeups

- split town

- general hosting

- combination of LOTR and Star Wars

- game mechanics

A heads-up on the possibility of levelling up our powers would've been nice.

If one side is a "recruiting mafia", the players should know that too, not just that faction.

Neither of those will be in the sequel, but I'll address them anyways.

It's in the "Game Features."

I don't really understand this. The town should know all of the mechanics of the opposing factions? This game's setup was already very open compared to almost all other large games.

Yes, you have a very vague 'ability progression system'. But something more detailes might have come in handy.

I was fine with people not knowing I could kill, too.

1) Write-ups: Loved them, please keep them as awesome
2) Split town: Helps the mafia a bit. If it were not there we could have made a town network WAAAAY easier, especially since almost everyone had a special ability.
3) General Hosting: Apart from the Tanksgiving lapse, quite content about that. (But I guess it is unavoidable with you Americans:joke:)
4) LOTR-SWcombo: Entertaining to say the least.
5) Game mechanics: I had a feeling SW-cult overpowered LOTR-cult a bit. Cause LOTR-cult had a balrog but SW had a lot more recruitement potential.

Tl; dr: Great and Awesome game. I would immediatly sign up for the sequel even with exactly the same mechanics. :woohoo:

I mean that game-defining features should probably be known to be in place, e.g. if there is a cult in play, let people that anyone could be a cultist and so on. Basically, if someone can be converted, it would probably be sensible to at least allude to that in public. (I'm obviously not suggesting making all mechanics transparent, as that would be rather pointless in a Mafia game.)

Like I said in the Dead QT, individual LOTR Cult Roles were more powerful (Sauron had the ring, which was a roleblock/protect and potential kill; Witch-King started out with a roleblock and one-off bulletproof [void if attacked by Arakhor]). Any recruits after the first three were not especially useful, and Star Wars lost the ability to convert LOTR Town if Palpatine died. And it ended up hurting them, since it revealed Vader's identity.

But I think you still have a valid point, regardless.

I see where you're coming from, but I didn't necessarily want people to just wait to be converted from the get-go (which might have happened if they knew they were able to be converted). And with choxorn's ability, I thought it would be overpowering to explicitly confirm it to both parties.

Again, still a valid point, though.

Thanks to everyone for keeping the criticism constructive!
